Embattled San Mateo County sheriff rehires former chief of staff
SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) — San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, who could soon be removed from her job, has brought back her former chief of staff, with whom she reportedly had a romantic relationship. Corpus said she rehired Victor Aenlle as reserve deputy, crediting his 17 years of experience in the role.
The San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff's Association said the rehire makes their skin crawl. Eliot Storch, a San Mateo County sheriff's deputy and board secretary for the county Sheriff's Association, said, 'It's a middle finger to everybody who cares about morals and ethics.'
'DSA has significant doubts that Aenlle is in fact a qualified reserved deputy,' Storch continued. 'All that matters is that Sheriff Corpus hired her alleged boyfriend to be in a role, despite no one wanting her to be here and despite his behavior.'

Aenlle was removed as chief of staff last year after a scathing report accused Corpus of having a romantic relationship with him, creating a toxic work environment and creating jobs for Aenlle without publicizing the job opening. Corpus has denied all of the allegations.
In March, San Mateo County voters passed Measure A, giving county supervisors the authority to remove the embattled sheriff.
In a statement to KRON4, Corpus said there's a backlog of concealed carry weapon licenses that need to be addressed. The task will be part of Aenlle's job as a reserve officer.
Storch said this is all a 'power play,' because there are plenty of other qualified people to fulfill the role.
The Sheriff's Association said the best thing Corpus can do for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is to quit.

Throughout the past week, city leaders and law enforcement around the Bay Area have said they will allow people to express their free speech rights, but that vandalism and violence will not be tolerated. Hosey says they do not know how many people will attend this weekend, but they are expecting a large turnout, and they are optimistic that things will go smoothly. 'We want to have a nice, empowering vibe,' Hosey said. The San Francisco rally is set to start at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Dolores Park, the Oakland rally begins at Wilma Chan Park at noon, and the San Jose protest begins at noon at St. James Park along North First Street. San Jose fraud prevention expert charged with healthcare fraud
(KRON) — A woman who worked as a security manager at Nvidia and regularly spoke as an expert on fraud prevention was charged with submitting 167 fraudulent healthcare claims against the Santa Clara-based tech company, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced Friday. Faranak Firozan, 47, is accused of submitting the fraudulent claims between November 2020 and January 2024 to Nvidia's self-insured health plan, according to prosecutors. The DA's office said that many of the claims were either entirely made up or that bills were altered by changing service dates. 'Providers verified that services listed in her claims were either not performed at all or were duplicated claims,' the DA's office wrote. The scheme began to unravel in August 2024, according to prosecutors, after the California Department of Insurance received a suspected fraudulent claim referral from Cigna, which administered Nvidia's health plan. Motorcyclist suffers 'life-changing injury' in San Jose hit-and-run 'On her LinkedIn page, Firozan described herself as an expert in abuse prevention systems and fraud investigations for financial institutions,' the DA's office wrote. 'In 2020, she provided training on cyber laundering for the Information Systems Security Association Silicon Valley Chapter.' Firozan was charged with altering medical records with fraudulent intent and preparing false statements in connection with insurance claims. She also faces an added aggravated white-collar crime enhancement. Firozan is scheduled to be arraigned on July 15. Oakland PD asks for help solving fatal shooting cold case
(KRON) – The Oakland Police Department is asking for public assistance in solving the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Bert Brigham III. Brigham's death occurred almost four years ago on July 18, 2021, in the 1900 block of Foothill Boulevard. Oakland business looted following anti-ICE protest OPD has released images of four male suspects in their 20s and vehicles that may be connected to the case (pictured below). Per OPD, a white Kia Optima, a blue Toyota Camry, and a dark Honda Accord were the cars associated with the suspects.
