Darsheel Safary Admits He Felt Left Out Of Sitaare Zameen Par: 'Main Ek Zariya Tha'
Last Updated:
Darsheel Safary, known for his role in Taare Zameen Par, expressed mild disappointment but maturity about not being approached for Aamir Khan's new film Sitaare Zameen Par.
Darsheel Safary, who moved audiences to tears with his iconic portrayal of Ishaan Awasthi in Taare Zameen Par, has finally opened up about being absent from Aamir Khan's new film Sitaare Zameen Par. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Darsheel responded with honesty and maturity when asked if he felt bad that Aamir didn't approach him for the spiritual sequel. While he acknowledged feeling a tinge of disappointment, he also accepted that the film was not just about him.
Darsheel Safary told us, 'I feel that as actors, you have to go beyond certain emotions. Any good and bad depends on how personally you are taking what. I am very passionate about the film industry, I have studied films and I am very indulgent in it. I have put my soul here. That's why I know that a film is not just about me, it's an emotion and a story. It's something we can watch together. We can all learn to be loving individuals."
Speaking about how he processed not being a part of the project, Darsheel said, 'Having possessiveness is a natural emotion, so there might have been days where I thought 'it'd have been cool if I was a part of Sitaare Zameen Par'. But then, if you look at the bigger picture, you are delivering the best product in the most natural, organic way. If it doesn't fit, it just doesn't."
He added that his journey with Taare Zameen Par was never about individual ownership and said, 'I have always known that this film, Taare Zameen Par, is not about me… Main bas ek zariya tha. All our characters in Taare Zameen Par were mediums. It was never mine."
He concluded with grace and gratitude, saying, 'That's what Aamir sir must have thought while making the film because their decision matters and the audience should have fun. I am all okay with me not being a part of Sitaare Zameen Par. I just feel lucky to be a part of that legacy."
Sitaare Zameen Par is considered a spiritual successor to Aamir Khan's 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. The original film followed the moving story of Ishaan, a dyslexic child played by Darsheel Safary, and touched hearts across the nation with its sensitive portrayal of learning disabilities. It also featured Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma.
On the other hand, Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy drama film produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra and Simran Mangeshkar will make their Hindi cinema debut with the film.
The story centres on Gulshan, a former star basketball coach portrayed by Aamir Khan, who is ordered to coach a group of neurodivergent children as part of his community service following a DUI offence. What starts off as a begrudging assignment soon evolves into a life-changing experience for both him and the team. Genelia Deshmukh plays Sunita, Gulshan's supportive wife.
