Brian McKnight breaks silence on estranged son's death at 32… and lashes out at another family member

Daily Mail05-06-2025
Brian McKnight has broken his silence days after his estranged son Niko McKnight's tragic death at age 32.
Last Thursday, Brian's brother Claude McKnight publicly confirmed via social media that Niko had died on May 29 following a two-year cancer battle.
While speaking of his late nephew, Claude asked that fans refrain from discussing Niko's relationship with his dad Brian or any 'family drama.'
But in a statement published to Instagram on Tuesday, Brian lashed out at Claude's 'tasteless' announcement as he addressed Niko's death for the first time.
He accused Claude of making a 'mockery' of Niko's passing by speaking out.
'A big big thanks to Claude Mcknight's tasteless and self aggrandizing announcement on TikTok, that frankly was not his to make, in my opinion, he inserted himself and used Niko's death as an opportunity, instead of letting him pass with respect and dignity,' Brian began.
'It has instead turned into a circus, a mockery of a life now lost, making this tragedy into a reality show type drama.'

He continued: 'While that was unfolding my family and I flew home to Maui and had a private memorial remembering him, and all the good times.'
Brian, who limited comments on Tuesday's Instagram post, went on to make claims about ways he allegedly tried to help his estranged son during his cancer battle.
'The last time he and I spoke, we offered him all the help we could provide, we had the number one oncologist on deck for him and a team of specialists on standby with private care in our home.
'He and his mother declined. The door of communication was open and remained open until his death,' he alleged.
Brian then took aim at his ex-wife Julie McKnight, who is Niko's mother.
'To the self proclaimed "mama bear" may God have mercy on your soul for not allowing him to accept that help and not allowing him to use that line of communication.'
Despite being his years-long estrangement with Niko, Brian said his conscience is 'clear' and that 'God knows the TRUTH.'
'There is great comfort in knowing God knows the TRUTH and the totality of the WHOLE story. I am truly thankful for the immense peace God has given me. I've left everything in HIS hands. I, have a clear conscience. The only judgement that matters is God's.,' he wrote.
'My wife, our children and I are eternally thankful to Almighty God that the suffering has come to an end and grateful for all of your condolences.
'Thanks to those of you have known The truth from the beginning and haven't let untruths, half truths or slander , prejudice your opinion.'
He concluded the post with a Bible verse. '2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.'

Brian also read his statement aloud in a corresponding Instagram video.
The video featured video and photos that seemingly captured the area surrounding Brian's Maui home. One image showed a bottle of Hennessy in the sand.
Claude confirmed his nephew Niko's death in a TikTok video posted on Thursday, May 29.
Five months prior to his death, Niko had revealed that he was fighting stage 4 colon cancer.
Claude talked about his nephew, and also asked fans in the caption to not discuss Niko's relationship with his dad Brian or any 'family drama.'
'He's been bravely battling cancer for the last two years or so and have a lot of feelings right now...' his uncle said in the TikTok video. 'Niko was one of those amazing kids who was quirky and curious and ridiculously talented.'
'Amazing singer and amazing guitar player. Had a great eye as a photographer and just one of those kids that at least in my estimation of somebody you always wanted to be around, and so it really sucks that he's no longer with us,' he added.
Last year, Brian called his biological children 'evil' and 'products of sin' - which led to massive public backlash.
At the time of Brian's public statement about disowning his four eldest children - Brian Jr., Niko, Briana, and Clyde - Niko took to his X account, formerly Twitter, to speak more on the family drama, saying that all he wanted was to hear his father say he loved him while he was dying in the hospital from cancer complications.
Claude, who said he was contemplating about posting all day about the tragic loss of his nephew, said in his TikTok video: 'As the day wore on I realized, how could I not post about this? This morning I found out that my nephew Niko McNight passed away.'
He addressed the family drama in the video: 'So here's the thing. I don't know exactly what was going on there. I know what I've seen. I know what I've heard from all parties involved and I try not to judge. I just try to be as loving to each person as I can be because apparently there's so much hurt going on - or was so much hurt going on that a lot of things didn't get resolved.'
He said that Niko had 'a lot eating at him for a long long long time.'
'I may have contributed to what happened with him. What I do know is he's out of pain now. So I can rejoice in the fact that he no longer has to go through chemo and the radiation and everything else. I just want to uplift that young man and say we will see him again one day. I love you Niko.'
Claude captioned the video with: 'I'm devastated at my nephew's passing. If you comment please do do in love, and NOT at what you may have heard about the relationship my brother had/has with his kids. Thank you.'
Niko's mother Julie shared a statement via her Instagram page on Friday announcing his passing, adding a sweet snap with him and her other son Brian McKnight Jr.
'It is with profound sadness that Julie mcKnight and family announce the passing of her beloved son Cole Nikolas McKnight, affectionately known as 'Niko.' on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Nikolas was a cherished husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle and nephew whose warmth, laughter, and love touched the lives of all who knew him. Nikolas was a self taught artist of music and photography. His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family and all those who held him dear.'
'Julie McKnight has asked for privacy and continued prayers as the family navigates this incredibly difficult time. Mama Bear and the entire family appreciate the outpouring of love and support from friends, fans and the public.'
His brother Brian Jr. shared a photo with his children and Niko on his Instagram stories on Friday.
Niko revealed his cancer diagnosis on January 16, 2024 via his Instagram.
He shared an image from a hospital bed in the post from last year, writing: 'Everyone's been asking - here we go. Your boy got the big C - it's beeen one hell of a ride so far but things are looking better now than they were before so cheers to that.'
'Shout out to everyone in my corner and a super shoutout to my wife @phoenixelbow for saving my life (that's a story for another day) let's keep this momentum going and keep one prayer in the chamber for me yall. S***ts gonna get better, I know it. Also don't treat me different. I need looooove at all times,' he wrote.
Niko's mother Julie shared a statement via her Instagram page on Friday announcing his passing, adding a sweet snap with him and her other son Brian McKnight J
In December, Niko gave an update on his cancer battle, sharing a candid note to his Instagram page.
'For the past 2-3 months, I've been feeling the best I've felt since coming home from the hospital last year. Finally feeling like I have somewhat of a grasp on my life. Am I anxious? Well, yeah sure. I don't think that's ever going away. But I'm finally sleeping a full night again. I'm eating without PTSD. It's amazing. I didn't eat a single thing for 3 months straight. Surviving on TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) for that long does something to you. But now I feel like I can see the light from the other side of the woods. Not out of them yet. But it's looking pretty good so far,' he wrote, sharing a series of images from the past few months.
Niko's death comes 13 months after family drama was aired out - due to Brian calling his children 'evil.'
In April 2024, Brian faced public backlash online after referring to his biological children as 'evil' and 'products of sin' before Niko and Julie weighed in.
The R&B singer had addressed a fan who supported his choice to publicly disown his four eldest kids — Brian Jr., Niko, Briana, and Clyde — citing concerns about the presence of 'pure evil' among some relatives during a recent Instagram Q&A.
McKnight expressed his appreciation for the fan's comment, saying, 'I wanna big up my man right here. He gets it.'
One fan wrote in the comments: 'In order to live a life that you love, you have to get rid of the evil and the negativity — even if that evil and negativity is related [to you].'
After another fan claimed the singer was 'going against God,' McKnight replied, 'God wasn't talking about children that are the product of sin which these are.'
Fans were quick to slam the Grammy-nominated artist, with one posting, 'This is VERY nasty work. My goodness what in the blasphemous bad father hell?'
Another chimed in, 'Every time Brian McKnight starts trending I want to cry because I used to LOVE this man's music. But SMH I can't support it anymore.
'Not everyone is born of married parents, but did he have to call these children 'product of sin?' Sincerely, Apparently a product of sin.'
Niko and Niko's mom - Brian's ex-wife Julie McKnight - fired back at Brian soon after.
'I'm evil. That's wild: The guy who used to make me clean his used condoms out his bathroom at 15 before Lisa got home is calling me evil Fashoooooo,' Niko posted on the Shaderoom, according to an article by Page Six.
He added in a separate comment: 'The guy who forged [signatures] on our names is evil fashoooooooo.'
At the time, Niko had taken to X, formerly known as Twitter and admitted that he and siblings Brian Jr, Briana and Clyde were 'bad children', but insisted his sisters 'deserve better'.
'They don't deserve this outright disrespect. Hate us all day. You don't get to be a piece of s*** forever and still skate by with all that we know,' Niko posted.
'We saved that man from federal prison. That's all I'm going to say. But after all of this, I still love him so much because I know there's my dad in there somewhere. But he's a drone now. So f***ing sad. Miss you, Dad,' added Niko at the time.
He also acknowledged in another X post that he was 'spoiled beyond belief', but was working to 'correct' his shortcomings.
Niko shared his dying wish on X in April 2024, hoping that his father would tell him he loves him - which he said he refused to do.
At the time, he said he was in the hospital due to complications from his cancer, and was on his deathbed - with his last wish being to bury the hatchet with his father and to hear he loves him.
'When I was about to die in the hospital from complications from my cancer, I just wanted to bury the hatchet and hear him say he loves me and he told me he couldn't arbitrarily tell me he loves me. Still cuts so deep,' Niko wrote.

Niko shared on his X account his heartbreaking feelings about his estrangement
The next day, Niko wrote: 'Sometimes, I wonder if my dad's karma is my close proximity to death. Like maybe if I end up dying, it'll release him from this grip of evil.'
Julie also challenged Brian and said she was proud of their two sons.
'The point at the end of every negative situation, whether it's an illness whether it's a fool that you have to deal with because they keep entering your life when you are no longer giving any more energy to it, it's to only keep you down to where they thought they had you because they were the author of an extremely abusive situation emotionally, mentally,' she posted on Instagram.
'And they're no good at not being the center of that attention anymore. So when everybody pulls that away, it's like a kid who throws a tantrum,' Julie added.
Six months later, Niko wrote: 'Everyday, I feel so embarrassed by how things went with our Dad. When you're faced with a situation like mine, it quickly shows you what really matters. And family matters the most. I miss my family so much. Everyone.'
When the singer married his current wife, Leilani McKnight, in 2017, he became stepfather to Julia and Jack McPhee.
Their first son together, Brian Kainoa Makoa Jr., was born in 2022.
Towards the end of 2023, McKnight celebrated the achievement of his stepdaughter, Julia, who obtained her master's degree, sparking renewed discussions about his relationship with his biological children via an Instagram post.
In response, McKnight posted a Weekly Replies video on Instagram, where he referred to Julia as 'my sole daughter.'
The family feud hit a high note in October 2023 when McKnight was slammed for changing his name to become a senior to his newborn son Brian Kainoa Makoa Jr. — although he was already a senior to his eldest son, Brian Jr.
McKnight said, 'In order to live a life that you love, you have to get rid of the evil and the negativity — even if that evil and negativity is related [to you]'
After another fan claimed the singer was 'going against God,' McKnight replied, 'God wasn't talking about children that are the product of sin which these are'
The hitmaker made the announcement in an Instagram post that doubled as an album promo, which may have also rubbed some fans the wrong way.
He included a sepia-toned photo of little Brian Jr., and shared the album's title, McKnighttime Lullabies: An Album For My Son.
'So proud to introduce our son... BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA JR. ... to the world with the release of my new album lovingly created for him,' he wrote.
McKnight added that his son had the suffix 'JR. because I am also proud to officially announce that I have legally changed my name to exactly match my legacy's.'
'My legal name is now... BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA MCKNIGHT SR.,' he shared, before informing his fans that his album was available now.
'MCKNIGHTtime LULLABIES' the songs of a father to his namesake available now!'
He included several hashtags, including 'iloveourlife,' 'babybrian,' 'mylegacy,' 'junior' and 'familyfirst.'
The announcement was met with condemnation from several commenters, leading McKnight to eventually limited comments on the post.
'Family first huh?' wrote one disapproving person, while others called it 'petty' and 'a disgusting move.'
A more measured commenter wished him congratulations, but made it clear that they though he was in the wrong.
'I pray for the peace & healing of your family. Changing your name doesn't or can't erase what already is,' they wrote.
One blunt comment urged him to 'grow some balls and reconcile with your first-born children.'
The comments after his statement about his children last year were split
Another person simply made it clear that they were no longer a fan.
But some people responding to the post were fully in McKnight's camp and didn't find his name change unusual or disturbing at all.
'I love watching you grow to be a better person,' wrote one fan. This whole series of you starting over is such a blessing. Congratulations on your new 'restart' legacy of life.'
Another suggested it wasn't worth the effort to keep his relations strong with his older children.
'Sometimes a man gets tired of fighting. Men just want peace! Leave this man alone!' they wrote defensively.
McKnight's older son also weighed in via his Instagram Stories at the time in response to a fan who suggested he should change his own name to cut off any connection to his father, according to Page Six.
'I'm not ashamed of the name my ancestors had. I'll never change the name my own son now has,' McKnight Jr. wrote. 'We are witnessing an obscene level of self hate, that has reached mental illness status at this point.
'All we can do is pray for that man, and my new little brother who we will all welcome with open arms one day, once he realizes who his real family is,' he continued.
'Legacy isn't in the name. It's in the character of the people. It will all be quite clear soon, just who's on the right side of all this, because there's no escaping what's coming.'
Brian shared the original Brian Jr. and Niko from his first marriage to Julie McKnight, which ended in divorce in 2003.
He also has a daughter Briana and son Clyde from previous relationships, and he became the stepfather to his wife Leilani's son Jack and daughter Julia.
Two weeks ago, a fan asked him how many sons he had, to which Brian answered three, listing them as Jack, Brian and Kekoa
However, the performer seemed to indicate that he doesn't consider his older children part of his family anymore.
His Instagram bio lists him as the father to 'Julia, Jack, Kekoa Matteo and Brian Kainoa Makoa.'
Kekoa was the intended name for a child that McKnight and Leilani lost to a miscarriage in 2022.
As of May 30, Brian's Instagram bio still says he is dad to 'Julia, Jack, Kekoa Matteo & Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight Jr.'

Chris Pratt dragged into Katy Perry's bitter legal row after he rented $15m home she forced bedridden veteran, 85, from

CHRIS Pratt could be dragged into Katy Perry's ugly legal battle to prise $6 million from an 85-year-old disabled veteran she evicted from his home. The Guardians of the Galaxy star and his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger are renting the $15 million house previously owned by Carl Westcott who is bedridden in a hospice. 8 8 8 8 Westcott's family is outraged the popstar is suing the ailing man - who receives 24/7 care - for $6 million to cover back rent and alleged damages. Entrepreneur Westcott, a US Army veteran and founder of 1-800 Flowers - sold his Montecito mansion to Perry for $15 million in July 2020. Westcott had signed the property deal with Perry and Orlando Bloom's business manager, Bernie Gudvi, after initially agreeing to sell his 8.9-acre estate to the Firework singer. Gudvi accepted Westcott's counteroffer to increase the price from $13.5 million to $15 million, according to court documents. But just one month later, Westcott filed a lawsuit against Gudvi, alleging he was heavily medicated and not of sound mind when he contracted with Perry for the sale. He maintained that the contract was thus "void" on the grounds of his mental incapacity when he signed it. Westcott has been bedridden for nearly two years as he suffers from Huntington's disease, a brutal condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time. However, the pop star's legal team successfully countered his challenge in court, and keys were exchanged in 2024, meaning that Westcott had to move out. The judge said Westcott presented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract between June 10, 2020, and June 18, 2020, the days during which he negotiated and signed the contract. His angry son, Chart, told The U.S. Sun in February that Perry was "a rich pop star who can buy any other house in the world... she has no empathy... it's unforgivable." Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Spark Romance Rumors with Surprise Dinner in Montreal After her successful verdict, Perry then lodged a damages claim for $6 million against the elderly man - phase two of the legal action. According to court documents, the star's team is seeking compensation for alleged lost rental value, deferred maintenance, repairs for water damage and a fallen tree. Perry has paid $9 million so far for the $15 million property, which dates back to the 1920s/'30s, and is comprised of a large main house, three-bedroom guest house, one-bedroom pool house, gym building, and equipment building, per court filings. The Perry V Westcott case is heading back to court this month for the penalty phase, with his lawyers claiming in filings that her "16 witnesses have failed to produce any construction or repair contracts between Perry and any general contractor." The U.S. Sun understands that recovery of such costs is normal in civil litigation. RENTED OUT A source has told The U.S. Sun that the luxury house is currently being rented by Jurassic World star Chris Pratt, 46, and Katherine Schwarzenegger, 35. She is an American author and the eldest daughter of legendary Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger and NBC broadcast journalist Maria Shriver, who is also a member of the famous Kennedy family. The source added that, ironically, "Shriver initially put in a bid for the same house in 2020." Westcott's attorney returned to court last Tuesday ahead of a "likely attempt to subpoena Pratt because he is a material witness," she said. "For example, to establish when he started renting? He is living in a property that is wrapped up in a legal battle." The star is likely to be asked to testify - "Katy has already been mandated to do so," the source said. She added that Westcott's team "want to know how much Pratt is renting the house for. "Perry has claimed millions of dollars in damages, and claimed that it's not liveable - it's clearly liveable because an A-list actor is renting it." PRATT TESTIMONY Pratt's name was mentioned several times in court filings by Westcott's legal team last Friday in documents submitted to the Superior Court of the State of California. Before Perry's damages claim goes to trial, Westcott's attorneys have asked Judge Lipner to consider a "status report of issues to be resolved." Their August 1 document claimed: "Now, just before the Phase 2 trial, there is new, never-before disclosed evidence that Perry has rented out the Westcott property to the actor Chris Pratt and his wife. "Per a recent Daily Mail online newspaper article... 'sources close to Perry' say she rented the house to actor Chris Pratt." In their filings, the judge was asked to issue a pre-trial order to "allow Westcott's repair expert Steve Norris to do a short three-hour house re-inspection of the property... so he can see what repairs were done and opine as to their reasonable value." His attorneys also asked the judge to "allow Westcott to take several re-depositions limited to 3 hours each of the following persons: Perry and Gudvi... Chris Pratt (the tenant at the property, concerning its condition or problems and the terms of his lease agreement with Perry), and Orlando Bloom, Perry's boyfriend and father of her child, whose deposition testimony showed would personally be in charge of repairs." They alleged, "Now that we know Perry just rented out the house to a famous actor, conducting a trial on the real merits... means that this court's discretion should be exercised to allow the few and very short depositions requested and to allow Mr. Norris to spend 3 hours re-inspecting the property. "Another reason for allowing the short and few depositions is to allow Westcott and this court to know who owns the house after the recent split between Perry and her boyfriend Orlando Bloom." Their filings also alleged, "The current issues were caused by Perry/Gudvi waiting until after the September 2024 discovery cutoff to perform repairs, unless they did no repairs yet were still able to rent out the house as-is to Chris Pratt, which would tend to show the alleged repairs were exaggerated to drum up damages. "Either way, Perry's conduct is unfair and without the requested house inspection and short depositions requested by Westcott deprives him of a trial on the real merits." PERRY TO TESTIFY The source told The U.S. Sun today, "Judge Lipner confirmed that Katy will have to testify for at least an hour or more to the damages claim." Timeline of Katy Perry's mansion battle against veteran Carl Westcott July 2020: Entrepreneur Carl Westcott, US Army veteran and founder of 1-800 Flowers - sold his Montecito mansion to Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom for $15 million. Westcott had bought it only two months earlier for about $11.25 million. August 2020: Westcott filed a lawsuit against Perry and Bloom's business manager, Bernie Gudvi, alleging he was heavily medicated and not of sound mind when he contracted with Perry for the sale. The pop star's legal team countered and alleged that Westcott, who has Huntington's disease, had changed his mind on the sale, and the contract should be upheld. December 2023: A judge ruled in favor of Perry, and upheld the original sales contract. A Los Angeles judge ruled that Westcott failed to prove incapacity, finding him of sound mind during the sale negotiations. March 2024: The keys were exchanged. On May 17, 2024, Perry officially took legal ownership after the deed was recorded. 2024-2025: Phase two of the legal action - after the successful verdict, Perry lodged a damages claim for $6 million against Westcott, who is bedridden and currently receiving 24/7 care. This claim has yet to go before court. August 2025: Damage claims and ongoing litigation - Perry has paid $9 million so far for the luxury property and is now seeking $6 million in damages, citing structural defects, deferred maintenance, and lost rental income. TRIAL IN AUGUST The latest legal request follows filings submitted by Westcott's legal team, lodged in the Superior Court early July, and which outlined a further motion in the case. The July documents show that Westcott asked the court to "exclude any and all evidence, references to evidence, exhibits, testimony or argument relating to claims for alleged damages concerning repairs allegedly needed at Mr. Westcott's former home located at... Santa Barbara, California, as of May 17, 2024." Westcott's legal team explained in these earlier filings that escrow closed on May 17, 2024, and that Perry "must testify" in the penalty phase. "Since Gudvi had signed the contract in his capacity as the agent of the singer Katy Perry, the court ruled that Perry is the real-party-in-interest as to the damages being sought in the Phase 2 trial and that she must testify during the trial." Who is Carl Westcott? Katy Perry is suing the bedridden and ailing veteran, 85, who has a neurological disorder Carl Westcott was born in 1939 at the charity hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Westcott and his five sisters lived in a house without indoor plumbing. When Westcott was six, his father - who drove a logging truck - left and never returned. His mother became a nurse's aide, earning just $5 per eight-hour shift. When he was five, Westcott sold papers in front of the Vicksburg Hotel, as well as chewing gum - he also shined shoes. "By the time I was eight, I was making more money than my mother." The judge ruled that the boy should go to Columbia Training School, a state institution, until the situation improved at home. When Westcott was 16, he asked his mother to change his birth date in the family Bible to prove he was old enough to join the U.S. Army. He became a paratrooper and was honorably discharged as a corporal After becoming a successful car salesman, he joined Sopp Chevrolet as the dealership's general manager. In 1983, Westcott bought the NBC television affiliate in Tyler, Texas. His firm, Westcott Communications, became a pioneer in producing training programs in 18 fields such as automobile dealership management, certified public accountants, and law enforcement personnel. The company went public in 1989, and Westcott sold it in 1996. He said that, throughout his lengthy life, he has treated others with respect and dignity. Source: Horatio Algar Association of Distinguished Americans - Westcott was an award recipient in 2003 The documents also said that the property title, "was vested in the name of an entity supposedly owned by Perry called DDoveB LLC, a California limited liability company, formed on April 9, 2024. "The name of the LLC closely resembles the name Perry's daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, the child of Perry and her long-time actor boyfriend, Mr. Orlando Bloom. "Westcott's counsel has repeatedly asked Perry's counsel who owns the LLC that owns the house? "This court has always been told that Gudvi is Perry's manager and agent, and at her deposition before Phase 1 Perry testified the house was to be owned by her and she was buying it to live in, and not to rent." QUESTIONS OVER REPAIRS Westcott's legal team claimed in the July court document that under the terms of the house sale contract, it stated the home was being sold "in its present physical condition" and that the singer "had the right to perform inspections" prior to escrow being closed. They alleged that "Perry's lawyers did not even produce a written schedule showing each alleged item of repair and the cost Perry is seeking for each allegedly defective condition." His lawyers also claimed in the documents that "newspapers reported that Perry had just rented the house to the actor Chris Pratt, whose wife is the daughter of Maria Shriver, whom the court will recall from the Phase 1 testimony was bidding against Perry to buy the property in 2020." This revelation prompted Westcott's team to "immediately contact Perry's counsel" and ask for further details about her current rental agreement with Pratt, per the document. His lawyers also requested an "expert" to visit the property to "visualize any repairs." 8 8 The document added, "Given that many of her prior 'estimates' totaling $2.29 million pertained to habitability items, it defies logic and common sense that she was able to rent the house to a famous actor. "Perry's counsel flatly refused in a series of approximately half a dozen meet and confer emails to even disclose if repairs had been done." FAMILY HOME The Daily Mail reported in June that the singer had rented out the property to Pratt. A source told the paper, "The arrangement suits Chris, but it's a bit of a surprise given how Katy fought tooth and nail to get her hands on the house. "She previously suggested it was the ideal place for her and Orlando to raise a family. "After all that time, energy, and money, it seems unthinkable that they are not going to live in it." The U.S. Sun has contacted representatives for Pratt, Perry and Bloom for comment on the latest developments in the bitter case. STRUGGLE Westcott had intended to live in his home for the remainder of his life, according to his angry family. His son, Chart, ranted on X last November, 'My family has been in a struggle against… Katy Perry and now Orlando Bloom to defend the honor of my father, Carl Westcott, who is dying from Huntington's Disease. 'He is a US Army Veteran and winner of the Horatio Alger US award (an honor he shares with Clarence Thomas, Buzz Aldrin, and Donald Trump's father Fred Trump). 'Celebrity privilege, much like political lawfare, must end. We cannot afford any two tier justice in America.' The Horatio Alger Award is given to exceptional leaders who 'personify the American Dream' and have triumphed over adversity to achieve greatness. The latest revelations come as photos showed Justin Trudeau and Perry enjoying a night out in Canada after the singer split with Bloom earlier this year. 8 8

What to know about ataxia telangiectasia

Ataxia telangiectasia (AT) is a rare genetic condition that people inherit from their parents. AT affects the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. Ataxia is when a person has difficulty controlling their voluntary muscle movements. This can lead to difficulty with balance, coordination, speech, and fine motor tasks such as writing, typing, and buttoning refers to tiny, spider-like blood vessels under the skin that have become widened or broken and are now visible. These blood vessels are typically more visible around the nose, cheeks, chin, legs, chest, and describes when a person experiences a combination of ataxia and telangiectasia. This article discusses AT further, including a more detailed look into the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and potential outlook for this ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) gene is responsible for creating the ATM protein. This protein plays a critical role in detecting DNA damage, repairing DNA, signaling cells to stop dividing while under repair, and shutting down cells with extensive in the ATM gene can occur, which can change how the cells work or prevent them from working at all. AT can occur when a person inherits one mutation of the ATM gene from each parent. Healthcare professionals typically describe this pattern of inheritance as autosomal article from 2023 suggests that if both parents carry one copy of the ATM gene mutation, a child may have a:25% chance of developing AT50% chance of carrying the ATM gene mutation but not developing AT25% chance of inheriting two working copies of the geneA person who carries only one copy of the gene mutation will not typically experience any symptoms of AT. However, it is possible that any children they may have will inherit the gene mutation, and they are more likely to develop cancer. »Learn more:Autosomal inheritance: Definition, types, and conditionsSymptomsAT typically appears in early childhood, often before 5 years of age. AT typically affects the nervous system, immune system, and the spine, which can lead to a number of symptoms, including:Movement and coordination issues: Children with AT can experience unsteady walking, a lack of balance, and difficulty coordinating with speech: As AT progresses, a person may experience slurred speech and difficulty with eye movements: An individual with AT may experience difficulty coordinating eye movements, or oculomotor changes: A person with AT may experience small, blue, red, or purple spider-like blood vessels around the eyes, cheeks, and ears. Immune system issues: People with AT may have a weakened immune system, which can increase the risk of infections, particularly in the lungs and physical changes: A person with AT may experience other symptoms such as premature graying of the hair, fatigue, and delayed physical and sexual research from 2019 suggests that a child with an immune deficiency, such as AT, may be more at risk of developing cancer. The most common types of cancer related to AT are acute lymphocytic leukemia and diagnose AT, a healthcare professional may assess symptoms, take a full medical history, and perform several tests. A healthcare professional will typically look for early symptoms, such as difficulty with balance and coordination, and blood vessels appearing on the skin and are several tests a healthcare professional may use to diagnose AT, including:blood tests to detect low levels of certain immune cells and antibodiesgenetic testing to confirm whether a person carries both copies of the ATM gene mutationimaging scans, such as an MRI, to assess any damage to the part of the brain that controls coordination and movementeye tests to assess the movement of the eyesTreatmentResearch is ongoing to find new treatments that target the underlying causes of AT. However, there is currently no cure for AT or a way to slow down the speed at which the condition progresses. However, a healthcare professional can help a person manage symptoms and improve overall quality of life in several ways. For example: Physical therapy may help a person maintain flexibility, balance, and coordination for as long as therapy may help a person address difficulties with breathing, speaking, and swallowing. Boosting the immune system with nutrition, high doses of vitamins, antioxidants, and gamma-globulin AT is a progressive condition, symptoms typically worsen over time. This can affect mobility, coordination, and the immune system. By the time a person reaches adolescence, they may require mobility aids, such as a wheelchair.A person with AT will typically experience a weakening of the immune system, which can increase the chances of developing infections. Therefore, a healthcare professional may regularly monitor people with AT to check for signs of with AT may also be more at risk of developing certain types of cancer. A healthcare professional will typically perform regular screenings so that they can start any necessary treatment severity of the ATM gene mutation can influence a person's life expectancy. Typically, people with AT live into early individual outlooks can vary depending on a person's overall health and other factors. For example, an individual with a later onset and slower progression of AT may live until they are approximately 50 to 60 years old. A person should contact a healthcare professional to learn more about their individual is a rare, genetic condition that can occur when a person inherits one ATM gene mutation from each parent. AT typically affects balance, coordination, the nervous system, the immune system, and the spine. Symptoms can include difficulty with movement, issues with speech, trouble swallowing, and small visible blood vessels on the skin and eyes. A healthcare professional will typically diagnose AT by assessing symptoms, taking a full medical history, and performing several tests. There is currently no cure for AT. However, management options such as physical therapy, speech therapy, and immune system support can improve overall quality of should contact a healthcare professional if they or a child in their care is experiencing symptoms that may indicate AT. A doctor can make an accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment, if necessary.
