Girl, 12, killed after tyre burst throws her from Toyota Vellfire in Plus Expressway crash near Jasin
JASIN, June 27 — A 12-year-old girl was tragically killed after being thrown from a vehicle into the opposite lane, where she was hit by another car, in an accident at KM 189.1 North-South Expressway (Plus) southbound, this morning.
Jasin police chief Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat said that the accident occurred around 8am, and initial investigations found that the front right tyre of the Toyota Vellfire, carrying the victim, Iris Sofea Mohamed Siddiq Khan, burst, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the road divider.
He said that the impact of the collision caused the victim to be thrown out of the Toyota Vellfire into the opposite lane, where she was struck by a Honda City.
He added that Iris Sofea was travelling in the car driven by her father, Mohamed Siddiq Khan, 36, along with seven other family members — her mother, 41; grandfather, 63; grandmother, 60; and four siblings aged between four and 11 — on their journey from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.
'Iris Sofea, the eldest of five siblings, died at the scene due to severe head injuries. Her body was taken to Jasin Hospital for a post-mortem,' he said.
'Seven family members, including the children, sustained various injuries and were taken to Jasin Hospital and Melaka Hospital for further treatment,' he said in a statement today.
Mohamad Rusli said that both the driver of the Toyota Vellfire and the Honda City driver, a 30-year-old woman, escaped unhurt. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The victim also claimed he was punched in the stomach and slapped in the face by several Form Three students at the hostel. Azamuddin said the incident was discovered by a warden on duty, who brought the victim and suspects to the warden's office. The student was brought to hospital for treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Asyraf said the six students were expelled after an investigation found that they were involved in bullying their juniors. He said bullying was not a matter to be taken lightly. 'I have repeatedly emphasised that I will not compromise on any form of bullying. What happened in Besut is very disappointing for me,' he said, Bernama reported. 'I cannot forgive any form of bullying … I am firm on this matter,' he told reporters after an Umno meeting in Pasir Mas today. Five of the students, aged between 15 and 17, have been taken into custody in connection with the case after a 14-year-old student reported that he was forced to squat with slippers on his head for 40 minutes at about 11.30pm on Tuesday. He also alleged he was punched in the stomach and slapped in the face by several Form 3 students at the hostel.

Bullying won't be tolerated, says MARA chairman after Besut MRSM suspends, expels six
PASIR MAS, June 27 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has said that the recent physical bullying incident involving six students at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut, Kuala Terengganu should serve as a lesson to all students at other MRSM colleges to not repeat the same behaviour. Its chairman, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said that the six students have been suspended and expelled from MRSM after an investigation found that they were involved in bullying their college juniors. 'I have repeatedly emphasised that I will not compromise on any form of bullying. So what happened at Besut MRSM is very disappointing for me, and of course, all processes and procedures have been carried out at the college level. 'We have a disciplinary committee, and their (students) actions are indeed true. That is why I mentioned that any dissatisfaction with a junior who commits any form of physical bullying is something that cannot be forgiven and I am firm on this matter,' he told reporters after officiating the Umno Division delegates' meeting in Rantau Panjang here today. He said that strict actions, including suspension, were taken immediately because MARA's principle is very clear: there is no compromise on any form of physical bullying. 'I have already instructed the disciplinary committee of the Secondary Education Division that we cannot compromise because once the investigation is done, it gives the committee the option of suspension or otherwise, but I said in this matter that our principle is firm,' he said. According to him, this case should serve as a lesson to all MRSM students to understand that any act of bullying a classmate will not be taken lightly. 'I can generally say, Alhamdulillah, the decrease in these cases is indeed very significant. We rarely hear about bullying cases. But when it resurfaces (the MRSM bullying case), it is very disappointing to me. 'At the MARA level, we suspended six MRSM students who were found to be involved. That day we suspended them temporarily, and when we conducted the investigation process, we found that the behaviour indeed existed,' he said. Asyraf Wajdi said that any rational reason to justify the act in question is unacceptable. According to him, the MRSM-level investigation has been completed and he will not accept any appeals because, for him, bullying involving physical actions is something serious. Asyraf Wajdi also said that various anti-bullying prevention programmes at MRSM have begun, including awareness programmes, motivational sessions, and the involvement of existing MRSM counsellors. 'Indeed, these enlightenment and education programmes have been implemented, but I am very saddened because it is still happening, and my objective is to achieve zero bullying at MRSM,' he added. Yesterday, the media reported that a Form Two student at Besut MRSM claimed to have been bullied by a group of senior students in the Putera dormitory on Tuesday night, resulting in injuries to his abdomen, ribs and back.
