SAO PAULO (AP) — Neymar has extended his contract with Brazilian club Santos until the end of December.
The 33-year-old forward returned to his boyhood club in late January but has been limited by injuries. His current deal was set to expire next week. Neymar and Santos confirmed the extension Tuesday.

'I extended my contract with Santos. I went, I came back and I stay where it all began and where it will never end,' Neymar said in a video on his social media channels.
Neither side explained why he did not extend his contract until the middle of 2026, when many Brazilians still expect him to play in the World Cup. Earlier in June, new Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti hinted he is counting on Neymar's recovery to play in the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Since he left Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal for Santos, Neymar has played 12 matches, scored three goals and provided three assists. He had two extended periods of absence due to muscle injuries.
Neymar played 225 matches for Santos in his first spell. He scored 138 goals, many of them key to winning six titles at the Brazilian giant, which was relegated in 2023 and returned to the top division last year.

His latest appearance for the team was a frustrating one; he was sent off in the 76th minute of Santos' 1-0 loss to Botafogo at home on June 1 after using his hand to score.
Realizing he was not going to reach the ball with his head before a defender could clear it away, Neymar used his right hand to push the ball into the net.
The Brazil forward already had a yellow card and was shown his second by the referee, who then disallowed the goal. Botafogo then scored the winner in the 86th.
Saudi club Al-Hilal terminated Neymar's contract with mutual consent, six months early, after he played only seven matches. An ACL injury sidelined him for a year until October. Al-Hilal said Neymar could no longer perform like he used to.

Neymar also left Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to criticism, despite delivering silverware and goals.
Santos is in the 15th position in the Brazilian league with 11 points after 12 matches.

After nervous start Bangladesh reaches 71-2 at lunch in the 2nd test against Sri Lanka
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — After a nervous start, Bangladesh reached 71 for two wickets at lunch on the opening day of the second cricket test against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first at the Singhalese Sports Club. The first test played in Galle ended in a draw. Opening batter Anamul Haque failed to capitalize on a reprieve when Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis dropped him off fast bowler Asitha Fernando. He was out by the same bowler after a few deliveries without scoring with Sri Lanka's total on five. Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam shared a promising partnership of 38 runs but Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva removed Mominul (21), caught by substitute fielder Pawan Rathnayake. Islam was batting on 43 with Shanto on seven at the lunch break. Allrounder Sonal Dinusha, who is 24, made his test debut for Sri Lanka after the retirement of senior allrounder Angelo Mathews after the first test. Dinusha has scored 2,478 runs playing in 48 first-class matches and averaging more than 40 runs per innings. He has also taken 99 first-class wickets. Fast bowler Milan Rathnayake was left out of the lineup because of injury and left-arm paceman Vishwa Fernando takes his place. Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who missed the first test due to an injury, returned in the place of Jaker Ali. ___ AP cricket:

Kyrie Irving and Mavs agree on $119M, 3-year deal that aligns with Anthony Davis, AP source says
DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving have agreed on a $119 million, three-year contract with the All-Star guard still recovering from a torn ACL that will sideline him into the 2025-26 season, a person with knowledge of the deal said Tuesday night. Irving is declining the $43 million player option in the final year of his current three-year contract, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal isn't expected to be finalized until the start of the new league year on July 6. The new contract will align Irving with co-star Anthony Davis, who joined the Mavericks in the seismic trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. Davis has three years remaining on his contract, with a player option that now will be the same season as Irving in 2027-28. The agreement with Irving came on the eve of the NBA draft, with the Mavericks poised to take former Duke star Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick after winning the draft lottery despite having just a 1.8% chance to do so. Irving also is a Duke alum, as is young center Dereck Lively II. Once the nine-time All-Star returns from his injury, perhaps in December or January, all three among Irving, Lively and Flagg figure to be in the starting lineup if they are healthy. The 33-year-old Irving came to the Mavericks in a 2023 trade after a tumultuous tenure in Brooklyn. The idea then was to pair him with Doncic, and a year later the duo led Dallas to the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years. Boston beat the Mavs in five games last June. The stunning decision to send Doncic to the Lakers elevated Irving's status, although Davis' championship pedigree with the Lakers essentially put the two on even footing. Irving, who has averaged 23.7 points and 5.6 assists over 14 seasons, and LeBron James won a title together with Cleveland in 2016. Davis went down with a groin injury in his Dallas debut, and before he could come back, Irving sustained his knee injury about a month after the Doncic trade. Skeptics were plentiful when the Mavs traded for Irving, who wanted out of Brooklyn after 3 1/2 seasons of disappointments on the court and plenty of drama off it. Earlier in the season he was dealt to Dallas, Irving was suspended by the Nets for what became eight games after the team said it was dismayed by his repeated failure to 'unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs.' That came shortly after Irving refused to issue the apology that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver sought for posting a link to an antisemitic work on his Twitter feed. Irving also wound up losing his long relationship with Nike as part of the massive fallout from what he tweeted and the reactions that followed. Irving also missed much of the 2021-22 season because of his refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19, which left him essentially ineligible to play in Brooklyn's home games for much of the season because of New York City rules put in place in response to the pandemic. There has been no such drama in Dallas, and Irving has enjoyed a resurgence in his career. He was on an expiring contract when the Mavs traded for him. During the 2023 offseason, Irving stayed with Dallas on a three-year deal with a player option in the final season. Now he's about to do it again.

NBA Fans Torn On Kyrie Irving's Free Agency Decision
NBA Fans Torn On Kyrie Irving's Free Agency Decision originally appeared on The Spun. Basketball fans didn't have to wait long to learn about Kyrie Irving's future. Irving is declining his $43 million player option for the 2025-26 season. Although that'll technically make him a free agent, he won't test the open market. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Mavericks are expected to sign the All-Star guard to a three-year, $119 million contract. Advertisement Charania added that Irving's new deal with the Mavericks is expected to include a player option for the 2027-28 season. Irving, a nine-time All-Star, was having another strong year prior to going down with a knee injury. In fact, he averaged 24.7 points and 4.6 assists per game for the Mavericks this past season. On paper, Irving's three-year, $119 million contract seems like a fair deal for him and the Mavericks. However, fans are a bit worried about him receiving that much money after just suffering a torn ACL. (Photo by Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images)Jesse D. Garrabrant/Getty Images "40 mil for a 33 year old who just tore his ACL is insane," one fan declared. "That's a lot of money for an aging point guard coming off a huge injury," a second fan said. Advertisement "Solid deal for Dallas too. More flexibility for them, interested to see what they do with it," a third fan wrote. "Took a slight pay cut," another fan commented. "Great value for Dallas. Even post ACL Kyrie at $40 million a year is a bargain," a social media user argued. If the Mavericks get Irving back healthy, they'll have a legit chance to contend in the Western Conference. The roster is set to add an impact player through the draft in Duke phenom Cooper Flagg. Of course, we also can't forget about Anthony Davis. Only time will tell if the Mavericks made the right decision keeping Irving.
