Loris Karius's glamorous TV presenter wife Diletta Leotta reveals uncomfortable ex-Liverpool star 'locked himself in his room' when she first brought him to meet her parents in Sicily

Daily Mail2 days ago

Loris Karius was so overwhelmed meeting his wife's family for the first time that he locked himself in his room and dived onto the bed to process his emotions.
That's according to television presenter Diletta Leotta, who is in a pretty good position to speak about this given that she is the wife in question.
Karius and Leotta tied the knot last year in a lavish ceremony at a five-star hotel resort and devoured a cake almost as tall as them.
The duo began dating in August 2022 and had a daughter, baby Aria, the following year.
But meeting Leotta's family from Catania, Sicily, was apparently a culture shock which left Karius 'destroyed' and yearning for respite because of the exuberance and noise.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper even begs to have more alone time with Leotta when he is in Milan with her - a supplication she only occasionally shows mercy to. Her mother and tickle-mad brother are often around their skyscraper flat.
'It was fun to bring Loris to my house in Catania for the first time,' Leotta told the Storie oltre le Stories podcast via La Gazzetta dello Sport.
'At a certain point during lunch - he doesn't speak Italian, by the way - he heard all this noise.
'He wasn't used to this disaster, he said to me: "Please stop, I need a break!"
'He went upstairs to his room, locked himself in and threw himself on the bed destroyed by life.
'My house is a mess anyway. I've been used to inviting people home rather than going to other people's houses myself.
'It's difficult for me to have a lunch at my house where I'm alone. My mother is there, my brother who comes up who lives downstairs.
'Loris tells me: "There are always so many of us, why are you and I never alone?"
'"Oh love, my life is like this!"'
To appease Karius every now and then, Leotta admits she has to 'really concentrate and say: "this evening it's just me and Loris."'
Leotta has reportedly implored Karius to come and live with her full-time but he currently plays for German second-tier side Schalke.
He signed with them in January on a short-term deal but Bild reports that he is close to sealing an extension until 2027.
The former Champions League finalist was almost staring down the barrel at third-division football as Schalke only avoided the relegation play-offs by three points.
Leotta struggles to see much of Karius because she works as a TV presenter for DAZN and is typically covering a Serie A match at the weekend.
Visiting has become a complication - paticularly after one airport experience which revived 'traumatic' memories.
She recently claimed that she was left feeling 'embarrassed' after her breasts were squeezed during an invasive security check at a German airport.
Leotta alleged that she was forced to remove almost all her clothes before she was 'tickled' under the arms and feet - an experience she described as 'incredible torture'.
'I had to go back to Italy, and as I was going through the metal detector, a policewoman came and wanted to check me,' she is reported as telling Radio 105 by Bild. 'She squeezed my breasts. I was a little embarrassed.
'At one point, I took off almost all my clothes. I was wearing almost nothing under my arms and told her, "Look, I have nothing under my arms".
'But she insisted on tickling me under my arms, which was incredible torture. She also told me to take off my shoes and tickled me under my feet.
'It was traumatic because my brother held me like that (with his arms raised) and tickled me under the armpits. He was really strong. He tickled me all over my body and I wet my pants.'

Liverpool 'get green light' to complete huge £126m Florian Wirtz deal

Liverpool have already been busy in the summer transfer market with the signing of Jeremie Frimpong and are now closing in on a move for his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz Liverpool have moved a step closer to sealing a sensational deal for Florian Wirtz, with Bayer Leverkusen having now granted their permission for the attacking midfielder to complete a dream move to Anfield. The reigning Premier League champions have been credited with an interest in the German since the end of the season. It was thought that they were set to face competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich, but they both dropped out of the race for Wirtz's signature. ‌ Liverpool have since been locked in negotiations with Leverkusen in an attempt to secure an agreement - and it now appears that they have managed just that. ‌ According to reports in Belgium, the Bundesliga side have given Wirtz the 'green light' to complete his move to Anfield. The clubs have agreed a fee of €150m (£126m) for Wirtz's services with personal terms already agreed. Former Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller had recently given an update on talks and suggesting he felt positive that a move would eventually be completed. 'It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool,' Voller told DAZN (via Sport1). 'I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. [But with] transfers like this [it's] often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached. Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through. 'Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen but also for the national team. That's why he costs a few euros more.' Meanwhile, Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard also shared his feelings on the Reds' potential deal for Wirtz and appeared to be a big fan. He said: 'There are rumours obviously, Florian Wirtz. ‌ 'A big talent who's done fantastic for Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen. He's got a huge future in front of him, so if Liverpool is the place for him, let's hope we can make it happen.' Should a deal be completed, Wirtz would be the second star to swap Bayer Leverkusen for Liverpool. Arne Slot 's side also completed a move for fullback Jeremie Frimpong, who was signed for around £35m. Liverpool's business does not appear likely to end there either. The Reds are also closing in on a deal for Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia for £1.5m. They are also hopeful of signing his Hungarian counterpart Milos Kerkes from Bournemouth. The Cherries have put a £45m asking price on the left-back ahead of next season. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Ogier leads after tough first day in Sardinia

June 6 (Reuters) - Toyota's Sebastien Ogier led Rally Italy in Sardinia on Friday after surging from third to first on the final stage of the first full day of action after rivals hit trouble. Hyundai's reigning world champion Thierry Neuville retired on stage five after taking the lead on the fourth stage of the Olbia-based rally in northern Sardinia and then hitting an earth bank. Adrien Fourmaux was in second place, 2.1 seconds behind eight-times world champion Ogier, with Hyundai teammate Ott Tanak third on the gravel tracks. Last year's winner Tanak completed the leg with a damaged shock absorber and 5.2 seconds behind Fourmaux. Toyota's double world champion Kalle Rovanpera was down in fifth place with championship-leading teammate Elfyn Evans sixth after being the first driver to set out and effectively sweeping the road. "It's been a good day, for sure," commented Ogier. "I've done everything I could today, so I'm happy with that." M-Sport Ford's Martins Sesks rolled out while teammates Josh McErlean and Gregoire Munster retired with suspension damage in the morning action on the same new Telti-Calangianus-Berchidda stage that caught out Neuville later. M-Sport expected at least two of the three to resume on Saturday. "That stage where all the drama happened was very tricky,' said Ogier. "It's super narrow and extremely fast. It's always a surprise to see that many incidents, but it can happen very easily there." The rally, round six of the championship, continues on Saturday with more than 120km of timed action.

Thierry Henry's warning to Arsenal and Chelsea over signing 'amazing' £60m star

Hugo Ekitike, a top transfer target for Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, can be a 'frustrating' player Thierry Henry has warned. The three Premier League giants are all in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, with Arsenal's need for a prolific goalscorer well-documented. Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town but would be interested in adding another striker to their roster, which could well spell the end for Nicolas Jackson's time at Stamford Bridge. As for Liverpool, it has long been clear that Darwin Nunez is not in Arne Slot's plans with the Uruguayan likely to leave Anfield. Ekitike is a name on all of their radars following an explosive season at Eintracht Frankfurt where he recorded 34 goal contributions in 48 games across all competitions. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Valued at £60million, the striker has been coached at France youth level by Arsenal legend Henry, who, according to Micah Richards, likes what he sees – but there is a caveat. 'In terms of Ekitike, I've spoken to Thierry Henry about him a lot,' Manchester City hero Richards told The Rest is Football podcast. 'He says he's not [necessarily] a frustrating player, but one minute he looks amazing and the next minute he doesn't really do the basics very well. 'But he said if he gets it right and improves then his ceiling could be very, very high.' Reports suggest Chelsea are leading the race for Ekitike, who turns 23 in June and that actually might be a good thing for Liverpool, as Richards isn't certain he's the right fit for the Reds. Appearances: 48 Goals: 22 Minutes per goal: 166 Assists: 12 He added: 'It depends on how they want to play. Do they want a striker who can stretch or they do they want a striker who is going to come to feet and interlink play? 'Ekitike is not bad on the ball but he's more of a stretch striker than a [Roberto] Firmino coming in deep and linking play. More Trending 'Where does Florian Wirtz fit into that? Where does Dominik Szoboszlai fit into that? Where does Luis Diaz potentially fit into that. If they get Wirtz I think they may be looking for more a player who can drop and Diaz can play a little bit deeper. He played a lot as a No.9 this season. 'But talent wise he's definitely got enough to add to this Liverpool side.' Wirtz seems primed to join Liverpool but only if the Reds meet Bayer Leverkusen's £120m asking price and it's possible the attacking midfielder could be deployed as a centre-forward under Slot. Additionally, Benjamin Sesko appears to be Mikel Arteta's first-choice with talks between Arsenal and RB Leipzig progressing well, all of which could clear the way for Chelsea to sign Ekitike.
