Shamrock Rovers could face Cliftonville in second all-island clash in Europe this year
Shamrock Rovers
will play Cliftonville in the second round of the Uefa Conference League if the Northern Irish team can beat St Joseph's of Gibraltar.
The potential tie was revealed just a day after League of Ireland champions Shelbourne were drawn to play Linfield in the Champions League qualifiers.
The tie will be played over two legs, with Rovers away in the first leg on July 24th and at home in the return on the 31st.
St Joseph's now stand in the way of the next Dublin-Belfast clash. Shelbourne struggled on the way to a 3-2 aggregate win over the Gibraltarian side in the first round of Conference League qualifying last year.

Rovers have recently played Northern Irish opposition in Europe, as they beat Larne 4-1 in Windsor Park in last year's Conference League group phase.
They were moved into the second round draw following Uefa's ruling not to admit Drogheda United to the competition.
Last year's Conference League will serve as an example for all Irish teams in Europe, with Rovers earning over €6 million and advancing to the knockout rounds of the competition. In the group phase, Rovers finished above eventual finalists Real Betis, who also ended the season in sixth in La Liga.
Shelbourne were involved in two draws at Uefa HQ in Nyon, Switzerland on Wednesday. They would face a clash with Azerbaijan's Qarabag FK should they beat Linfield in the Champions League qualifiers.
The Azerbaijani champions have qualified for the competition outright once before, back in 2017/18 and were eliminated in the final round of qualification last year by Dinamo Zagreb.
The loser of the Shelbourne-Linfield tie will face the loser of FK Zalgiris (Lithuania) vs Hamrun Spartans (Malta) in the second round of Conference League qualifiers.
St Patrick's Athletic would face either Nomme Kalju of Estonia or FK Partizani Tirana of Albania in the second round if they progress through their first round match.
In Tuesday's first round draw, the Inchicore-based team were drawn against Lithuania's FC Hegelmann, who were only founded in 2009.
Pat's will host Hegelmann on July 10th in the first leg, and if they advance they would also host the first tie of their second round clash on the 24th.
They are hoping to go one step further than last year, where they were knocked out by Istanbul Basaksehir in the playoff round. Hegelmann's only European appearance came in 2023, when they were knocked out by KF Shkupi of North Macedonia in the first round of Conference League qualification.

'Icon' Michael Murphy hailed by Donegal team mate Shane O'Donnell
Shane O'Donnell isn't surprised 'idol' Michael Murphy is thriving on his return to the inter-county stage. Murphy's u-turn on his Donegal career last Autumn came out of the blue. And while many felt he might be an impact sub for Donegal, the big Glenswilly man has not only cemented a starting place, but has been the main main in recent weeks. Murphy's threat as a long kick out option for Shaun Patton and his dead ball ability have seen the 2012 All-Ireland winning captain even more central to Donegal's plans than many imagined. With Patrick McBreaty currently not seeing much game time and Oisin Gallen out of form, Murphy has stepped up to the plate once again. Murphy, who turns 36 in August, picked up the RTE Man of the Match award after last weekend's victory over Mayo and has been highly influential throughout this year's Championship. 'He's a bit of an icon in there for a lot of us because there's a lot of young boys there that wouldn't have played with him beforehand,' said O'Donnell. 'Now, thankfully I was there for his last year under Declan Bonnar and Stephen Rochford. 'I was able to work with him for a year but there's a lot of new faces there at the minute that wouldn't have seen him there before. "I think a lot of us now just kind of idolise him and look up to him, which is always a good thing I suppose - to have him there as well.' New faces like Finbarr Roarty and Ciaran Moore - both flying for Donegal this year - are getting their first experience of working alongside Murphy as team mates. O'Donnell says he's not surprised at Murphy's impact: 'When you're in the club championship, Glenswilly were flying with him there and he was performing well in all those games. RTÉ set to show Champions League qualifier between Shelbourne and Linfield
RTÉ LOOK SET to show the Champions League derby between Shelbourne and Linfield next month. An announcement is likely to be made in the coming days. It's understood that the national broadcaster will pay in the region of €50,000 between to broadcast the first leg of the first-round qualifier at Tolka Park on Wednesday 9 July. Linfield are able to sell the rights of their own accord for the return game at Windsor Park on 16 July. Advertisement Virgin Media were not believed to be in the mix for the meeting in Dublin while Premier Sports Ireland (PSI), who are also owned by Shelbourne's majority shareholder Mickey O'Rourke, appear to have missed out.
