Below normal temperatures are expected for the Pittsburgh area Monday
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - On Monday, the Pittsburgh area is below normal with highs in the mid-30s and mostly sunny skies this afternoon.
Starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Garrett Co., Maryland is under a Winter Storm Watch. The rest of the viewing area will just have a few light snow showers. That advisory expires on Wednesday at 7 a.m.
The next round of wintry weather arrives Wednesday evening around the evening rush with a chance for freezing rain, but it's going to be light and one of those situations where temperatures could be just above the freezing mark, and we do not get much ice accumulation at all.
Right now, models are showing a .10" of ice for the Laurel Highlands and north of I-80, and maybe a trace for Pittsburgh. With the uncertainty, it's still at a potential First Alert Weather Day.
On Thursday, the area is back to the 40s with rain showers. It will turn colder and sunny again for Valentine's Day with highs just around the freezing mark.

Widespread, mostly light rain expected for most of Saturday
Plan for damp and muddy conditions if headed to the US Open on Saturday morning. The rain will be more widespread but, for the most part, pretty light. The steadiest rain will set up from roughly Pittsburgh points north, with a Flood Watch in effect for counties along I-80 until 4 p.m. TRACK THE RAIN WITH OUR INTERACTIVE RADAR There will be some breaks today, but additional showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and early evening. While rain can't be ruled out anywhere, it appears the highest risk for heavy rain and lightning will be south of Pittsburgh. After a break tonight, additional scattered showers are expected on Sunday. Not everyone will see them, but any rain that does develop will be very slow-moving, which may lead to a localized flood threat. We should see a relative lull in the rainfall on Monday, but more humidity and daily chances for thunderstorms will return for the middle of next week. Periods of rain and storms with some localized flooding possible in Pittsburgh this weekend
Parts of Western Pennsylvania received some very heavy rain through the overnight hours. A swath of 1-4+" occurred from areas near Plum to Vandergrift to Indiana, which resulted in a Flash Flood Warning being issued in those areas during the overnight hours. There was also a maximum of heavy rain with radar estimates of 1-3" around the New Castle area. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos This morning, a stalled frontal boundary continues to remain in place across Western Pennsylvania, with the boundary draped between I-70 and HW 422. A weak low-level wind just above the surface continues to transport rich moisture into the frontal zone, resulting in rising air and waves of showers and thunderstorms. Flood watch in place for areas in Western Pennsylvania KDKA Weather Center For Saturday morning through early afternoon, we expect a numerous to widespread coverage of rain and storms from roughly the Pittsburgh metro area north toward I-80. After 12-1 p.m., the coverage for areas north of Pittsburgh will start to slowly diminish, with more scattered storms developing south of Pittsburgh toward I-70 & I-68. Timing and coverage of rain in our region on Saturday through Sunday KDKA Weather Center Any of these cells will produce locally heavy rainfall with the potential for flash flooding. As of now, high-resolution modeling suggests a zone of 1-3" occurring between Pittsburgh and I-80 through early Saturday afternoon. This zone could shift depending on storm behavior, and if the front shifts slightly, but folks should be on the lookout for flash flooding. A Flood Watch is in effect until 4 p.m. for Clarion, Venango, Forest, and Jefferson counties. High temperatures and rain chances for Sunday, June 15, 2025 KDKA Weather Center For Saturday night into Sunday, the best chance of rain and storms will start to shift toward our southern counties. There will likely be some patchy fog on Sunday morning as well. By midday Sunday into Sunday afternoon, the best chance for rain will likely align from Pittsburgh and points south toward our I-70 and I-68 counties. Rainfall expected through Sunday evening KDKA Weather Center Coverage will be more scattered on Sunday compared to Saturday, so not everyone will see rain, but those that do could easily receive a quick 1-2" with the potential of localized flooding. Rain and storm chances will be lowest next Monday and Tuesday as we won't have much of a strong trigger or source of lift in our area. Isolated showers and storms will develop during the heat of the day. However, models are suggesting we move into a pattern by mid-late next week that will deliver a stronger jet stream punch and a trough of low pressure by Wednesday and Thursday. This will amp up rain chances once again, and possibly a few strong to severe storms. Wet weekend expected, washout not likely
The weekend will not be a washout, but it will be wet at times, so plan ahead before heading outdoors and take the rain gear if you're heading to Oakmont. Showers and a rumble of thunder will keep most of the area damp through lunchtime Saturday with a few pockets of moderate rain possible. The steadiest rain will lift north of Pittsburgh through early afternoon leaving some drier hours, but another round of pop-up storms will disrupt your evening. Storms on Saturday evening will be widely scattered and may set up south of Pittsburgh so not everyone will get wet, but any storm that develops could bring pockets of heavy rain.
