Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct
New Delhi [India] May 13 (ANI): Sri Lanka's skipper Chamari Athapaththu has received a penalty of 10 percent of her match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, as per the ICC website.
The incident took place during the final group stage game of the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka, with the hosts facing South Africa in Colombo. The Proteas emerged victorious in a high-scoring fixture.
Athapaththu was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to 'abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.'
In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Athapaththu's disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.
The incident occurred in the 32nd over of South Africa's innings, when after being hit for a four by Annerie Dercksen, Athapaththu took off her sunglasses and smashed them to the ground, breaking them into several pieces.
The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Anna Harris and Dedunu de Silva, third umpire Lyndon Hannibal and fourth umpire Nimali Perera.
There was no need of a hearing as Athapaththu admitted the offence and accepted the sanctions proposed by Michelle Pereira of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points.
The tri-series was eventually won by India, who defeated Sri Lanka, the tournament hosts in the final by 97 runs. Mandhana was awarded player of the match for her century in the finals , and Sneh Rana was named Player of the series, as she grabbed 15 wickets in the Tri-series. (ANI)

"So it's about backing that, our best skill versus their (Australia's) best skill, and we'll see where it lands us at the end of the day." Australia stands as an imposing opponent. They are the defending champions and sealed their Final spot after a series win over giants India on home soil. The Proteas fell 2-0 to the Aussies on tour in the 2021-2023 cycle, though Markram believes there is little he and his side haven't seen from their opponents. "We pretty much know what the Australians are all about and their skill levels, their characters and all those sorts of things," Markram said. "It's always a challenge that we get really excited for, and we generally get up for it and look forward to it. I've got no doubt this time it'll be any different." In their quest for victory, the Proteas have set up in Arundel, taking on Zimbabwe in a warm-up match, before travelling to Lord's to join England fast bowling legend Stuart Broad, who comes in as a consultant for the team's fast bowling battery. Markram says vibes in the camp are positive ahead of the Final. "The energies have been good, obviously lots of excitement in the air for the time being. (I'm) sure when we get a bit closer to the game or a few nerves will start kicking in," Markram said.

Body of missing Briton found in lift shaft in Malaysia
ANI file photo KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police confirmed Thursday that the body of a man found a day earlier in a Kuala Lumpur lift shaft was that of a British backpacker who was missing for more than a week. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, was last seen on May 27 at a bar in an upmarket suburb in the capital, sparking a police probe and a frenzied search by his parents. Police on Wednesday afternoon "received information that a man was found lying on his back in the lift (shaft) on the ground floor of a (building) construction site," Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said in a statement. Fire and rescue services recovered the body, which was sent for a post mortem, he added. "The results found that the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height," Rusdi said. "No criminal elements were found at the scene and the case has been classified as a sudden death report," he said, adding the body was identified by the victim's uncle based on a tattoo. B rickfields district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed to AFP that Johnson-Doyle was identified as the victim. Johnson-Doyle, a software engineer, was last seen on May 27 in the bustling Bangsar district, known for its nightlife, trendy bars and cafes. Johnson-Doyle's mother Leanne Burnett, 44, told the Free Malaysia Today news website that her husband had travelled to Kuala Lumpur to look for their son, adding that the family was "distraught" over his disappearance. Local reports said Johnson-Doyle was on a solo backpacking trip around Southeast Asia when he disappeared.
