The 2025 Games of the Future are officially coming to Abu Dhabi

Just when you thought Abu Dhabi couldn't outdo itself when it comes to next-gen entertainment, along comes this: the UAE capital has officially been named host of the Games of the Future 2025. Taking place from December 18 to 23 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), this global event promises to be a blockbuster celebration of all things phygital – that's physical sport meets digital gaming and yes, it's as futuristic as it sounds. So, what exactly are we in for? Think esports meets elite athletics. In each competition, players will first compete in a digital version of their sport – whether that's football, shooter games, or other hybrid disciplines – before jumping into the physical version IRL. The combined scores from both stages determine the winner, so you'll need fast thumbs and quick feet to make the podium. The Games aren't just about fierce competition – they're also a tech-lover's dream. Expect AI-powered activations, VR immersion zones, live digital showcases and more fan experiences than you can shake a motion sensor at. There will be cultural experiences too, adding a bit of local flair to the global chaos of combat boots and console clicks. Over 2,000 athletes from more than 100 countries took part in the first Games and this second edition is shaping up to be even bigger. ASPIRE, the UAE's innovation arm for big-league tech events, is leading the charge on the ground, while Ethara – the events powerhouse behind everything from UFC nights to Formula 1 concerts – will make sure everything runs smoother than a PS5 loading screen. And don't worry – you won't need to be a pro gamer or marathon runner to join the fun. The event is open to fans and spectators, with ADNEC's cavernous halls transformed into a futuristic arena where sport, science fiction and serious skill all collide. Whether you're into esports, elite-level athletics, or just want to be part of something wildly new and only-in-Abu-Dhabi, the Games of the Future 2025 are about to rewrite the playbook for what sport can be. Dubai Fitness Challenge in November, sunset yoga session to end event

The organising committee of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) has announced that its ninth edition will take place from 1st to 30th November, coinciding with the 'Year of the Community'. The committee also unveiled a bold, refreshed brand identity, which celebrates its transformative impact on the city's health and wellbeing. The announcement was made at a special gathering held to thank the government entities, schools, corporate entities, partners, fitness establishments and local communities that have helped make the annual event a resounding success. Khalfan Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council and CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, began the ceremony with gratitude for every individual, organisation, government partner and stakeholder who has helped shape the success of DFC, noting that more than 13 million people have taken part over eight editions. Launched in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, the DFC embodies his vision to transform Dubai into one of the world's most active cities. Driven by this visionary leadership, the initiative's ongoing success supports the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, reinforcing the city's position as a global leader in both business and lifestyle. Commenting on the impact of DFC, he said, 'With 2025 declared the Year of Community in the UAE, I am confident that this year's edition will once again unite friends, families, and organisations in the shared pursuit of a healthier, more active lifestyle.' Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, said the Dubai Fitness Challenge has played a key role in encouraging healthier lifestyles and advancing the D33 Agenda's vision of making Dubai the best place to live, work, and visit. He added that the initiative's refreshed brand reflects its dynamic spirit and ongoing impact, as it continues to enhance well-being and strengthen Dubai's global standing. Alongside the refreshed brand, the 2025 highlight calendar was revealed, featuring 30 days of free and inclusive fitness events, fitness villages, community hubs, classes, and activities. This year's Challenge will feature a brand new flagship event: Dubai Yoga, which will bring the 30-day Challenge to a close with a sunset yoga session on 30th November. French Open: Defending champion Alcaraz cruises into last four

Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz glided into the semifinals of Roland Garros on Tuesday, blowing away American 12th seed Tommy Paul for the loss of just five games in the night session on Court Philippe Chatrier. The Spaniard needed just one hour 34 minutes to dismantle former world number nine Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 and set up a last-four meeting with Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti, seeded eighth, earlier beat Paul's compatriot and 15th seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets. It will be the third time Alcaraz and Musetti meet this clay-court season. Alcaraz has dominated that series, beating the Italian in the final in Monte Carlo before also stopping him in the last four on his way to the Rome title. And the 22-year-old's blistering performance under the lights on centre court in Paris will have many backing him to make it three from three against Musetti as he seeks to defend his title. "It was, I could close my eyes and everything went in, my feeling today was amazing. Today was one of those matches where everything went in, I'm just pleased with everything," said Alcaraz. Alcaraz fired 40 winners on his way to victory over Paul for just 22 unforced errors as he emphatically put inconsistent displays in the previous rounds behind him. "This kind of match is never easy," he said. "I've played Tommy many times and he's beat me twice." Despite previous success against Alcaraz, it took the 28-year-old American eight games to get on the scoreboard as his opponent raced out of the blocks, mixing powerful groundstrokes with perfectly-weighted drop-shots and lobs. Paul put up determined resistance in the third set but couldn't deny Alcaraz, who broke in the ninth game before holding to love for victory. "I know you wanted to watch more tennis," an apologetic Alcaraz told the crowd on centre court. "I have to say sorry for that. But I had to do my work." Paul has now lost his last four meetings with Alcaraz, including at the same venue last year in the last eight of the Olympic Games.
