SEATTLE (AP) — Jesus Ferreira scored his first goal for the Seattle Sounders, and Stefan Frei made it stand up with seven saves in a 1-0 victory over expansion side San Diego FC on Wednesday night.
Ferreira used assists from Paul Rothrock and defender Alex Roldan to score in his 15th appearance with Seattle after scoring 53 times for FC Dallas from 2017-24. Rothrock's assist was his third this season and the fifth of his career. Roldán notched his second. He had one assist in his first seven seasons.
Frei finished off his fifth clean sheet of the season for Seattle (7-4-5). He has 111 shutouts in 367 career starts. Frei's first six came in 28 starts with Toronto FC from 2011-13.
The Sounders improve to 6-0-3 at home through all competitions this season. Seattle and FC Cincinnati are the only two teams still unbeaten at home.
CJ dos Santos stopped four shots for San Diego (8-5-3), which falls to 3-4-1 on the road in its first season after beginning the day in second place in the Western Conference.
San Diego thumped Seattle 3-0 at home on April 5, and the Sounders have gone 6-1-2 since. Seattle trails San Diego by a point in the standings.
San Diego returns home to play Austin FC on Saturday. The Sounders will host Minnesota United on Sunday.

Jason Kidd may have to chose between the Knicks and Cooper Flagg When the New York Knicks decided to move on from Tom Thibodeau, it was not immediately clear who would replace him. One reported option is Jason Kidd. There is one significant problem, though, and it is that Kidd is currently employed by the Dallas Mavericks. He helped the Mavericks win the Western Conference and appear in the NBA Finals just last season. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks plan to request permission to interview Kidd about their coaching vacancy. That isn't the only actively employed NBA head coach that the Knicks reportedly covet. The organization also has its eyes on Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka and Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch, per SNY's Ian Begley. But, as noted by Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Rockets are not expected to grant permission to the Knicks they formally request an interview. While there is no reporting on this yet, common sense suggests that Minnesota is likely to have a similar approach with Finch after he led them to back-to-back appearances in the Western Conference Finals. Kidd probably sees the Knicks as being closer to a title than Dallas, especially with Kyrie Irving missing much of next season, and the Mavs might be willing to let him go to the East." The Knicks would effectively need to trade for Kidd in order to poach him from the Mavericks, but similar situations have happened before. In fact, Kidd was traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Brooklyn Nets when he became their head coach in 2014. Kidd played his final professional NBA season for the Knicks during 2012-13 campaign. He also coached Knicks star Jalen Brunson when the guard played for the Mavericks. As of right now, the Mavericks have not even given permission for Kidd to interview with the Knicks. The Dallas Stars are parting ways with head coach Pete DeBoer after he led the team to three straight Western Conference Finals appearances. On Friday, the team announced it fired DeBoer despite having one more year on his contract. The coach had been in charge of the Stars since 2022. The Stars scrapped their way through the playoffs after a 50-26 regular season. Dallas beat the Colorado Avalanche in seven games and the Winnipeg Jets in six. They took a 1-0 lead over the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference finals before the opposition rallied through the next four games. Days before DeBoer's dismissal, team owner Tom Gaglardi spoke to the Dallas News and rejected speculation about DeBoer's job being in jeopardy. Advertisement 'Are you kidding me? He's a top-three, top-five coach in the league,' Gaglardi said. 'I'm just one voice in the discussion but I don't see [firing] Pete being on anyone's agenda.' With two Stanley Cup appearances to his name, DeBoer made the Conference Finals in six of his last seven seasons with three different teams. DeBoer, who holds a 9-0 record in Game 7s, did not have the smoothest of exits from his tenure in Dallas. After ending the regular season on a seven-game losing streak and squeezing through the first two rounds, the veteran coach made questionable decisions that led to their elimination. After winning the first game in the conference finals, the Stars lost the next four games on a 19-4 goal deficit. DeBoer benched starting goalie Jake Oettinger after the Oilers went up 2-0 in Game 5. Edmonton went on to win 6-3, eliminating the Stars for the third straight season. Advertisement 'I didn't blame it all on Jake, but you know, the reality is if you go back to last year's playoffs, he's lost six of seven games to Edmonton, and we gave up two goals on two shots in an elimination game," Deboer said postgame after yelling at Oettinger to leave the rink. "So it was partly to spark our team, and partly that the status quo had not been working," he continued. DeBoer leaves Dallas with a 149-68 record.
