AIMIM keen to contest Bihar assembly elections with 'INDIA' bloc

PATNA: Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM, often criticised by the Congress and RJD as the 'B-team' of the BJP, is now making active efforts to join hands with the INDIA bloc for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, scheduled for October-November this year. AIMIM's Bihar chief and MLA Akhtarul Iman told reporters on Tuesday that his party had reached out to RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav through some MLAs with a proposal to contest the elections together, especially in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region. He said AIMIM is firmly against the BJP and now it's up to Tejashwi to respond to the alliance proposal. 'Our MLAs told me that the offer has not been rejected so far,' Iman said. During his last visit to Bihar, Owaisi had accused the RJD of engineering defections in his party but expressed confidence that AIMIM would win at least 24 seats in the upcoming election. The party plans to contest 50 seats across the state. Akhtarul Iman said AIMIM is keen to fight the polls in alliance with RJD and Congress but warned that if talks fail, the blame for any vote split should not fall on his party. 'No single party can defeat communal forces. A united fight against BJP is needed,' he added. In the 2020 assembly polls, AIMIM surprised many by winning five seats in Seemanchal. However, four of its MLAs later defected to the RJD. Back then, AIMIM had contested as part of the Grand Democratic Secular Front alongside Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP and Mayawati's BSP. While AIMIM won five seats, the BSP bagged one, whose MLA, Zama Khan, later joined JD(U) and became a minister. Sources in RJD say that AIMIM's request to join the INDIA bloc has met with stiff opposition from the Left parties. However, both RJD and Congress are in favour of including AIMIM, given its influence in Seemanchal. While the RJD-Congress is said to have offered the AIMIM 8–10 seats, the Hyderabad-based party is pushing for 24 seats in the region, which includes Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar, and Purnea.

Case of embezzlement filed against RJD MLC

Patna: A case of embezzlement of Rs 43.86 lakh was registered against RJD MLC Sunil Singh , his wife, and son, at Gardanibagh police station in Patna. Based on a written complaint by one Megha, the owner of an enterprise that supplied fruits, vegetables, and foodgrains, three separate cases were registered. According to the complaint, Singh received Rs 43.86 lakh through various organisational accounts for the procurement of chickpeas but failed to deliver the goods. The MLC, however, denied the allegations, stating he would respond after reviewing the FIR's copy. The SHO of Gardanibagh, Pratosh Kumar, confirmed that a case was registered on Sunday based on the complainant's statement, and investigations are going on. Megha, in the FIR, stated that Singh approached her in 2023 regarding sale of chickpeas. She transferred over Rs 43 lakh to three firms owned by him. She alleged that despite the transfer of money in the society owned by Singh, the goods were not delivered to her. After she did not receive the goods, she sent a notice to the MLC on April 28, which went unanswered. She further alleged in the FIR that when she demanded a refund of her money, Singh threatened her. The case was registered under sections 316 (2) (criminal breach of trust), 318 (4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing someone to deliver property), and 319 (2) (cheating by personation) of BNS.

Land-for-jobs case: All applicants from one state, CBI questions recruitment pattern

New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), presenting its arguements on framing charges in the land-for-job scam case on Monday, questioned how all applicants for Group D posts in some zones of Indian Railways could come from just one State. In this case, former Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family members, former public servants, and job aspirants are accused. Yadav is alleged to have granted railway jobs in exchange for land parcels from candidates or their relatives, either as gifts or at significantly reduced prices. The agency alleged that one lakh square feet of land was purchased for Rs 26 lakh. Special Judge Vishal Gogne heard the submissions of senior advocate and Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) DP Singh, who appeared on behalf of the CBI. The special judge on Tuesday listed the matter for hearing on Wednesday. It was submitted on behalf of the CBI that there was enormous pressure to clear the application. Multiple applications were cleared the same day. Why does it happen so quickly? SPP questioned. The process was so tedious, he added. The certificates were never verified. It was further submitted that there is sufficient evidence to show the cash transaction with the person whose land was sold directly or indirectly to Lalu Prasad Yadav at a discounted rate. The agency alleged that these people were appointed. The Delhi High Court has already rejected Lalu Prasad Yadav's plea seeking a stay on the trial court proceedings. On May 31, the Delhi HC dismissed his petition. Justice Ravinder Dudeja had ruled that Yadav remains free to present his arguments before the trial court at the charge consideration stage, stating there were no compelling reasons to halt proceedings. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, Yadav had sought to quash the FIR, arguing that the CBI failed to obtain mandatory prior approval before proceeding with its inquiry. He contended that while approval was secured for others, it was not obtained in his case. The CBI, opposing the petition on maintainability grounds, had argued that a sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act was not required. It further stated that while a sanction under Section 19 was necessary, it had already been obtained. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are investigating former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family, and several others in connection with the land-for-jobs case.
