Israel strikes Houthi terror targets in Yemen's Hodeidah Port
The Israeli military carried out airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen's Hodeidah port, the country's army said Tuesday. Israeli Navy missile ships struck terror targets belonging to the Houthi terrorists in the Hudaydah Port in Yemen, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
On Monday, the Israeli forces urged the evacuation of three Houthi-controlled ports – Hodeidah, Ras Isa and Salif.
The strikes, carried out by the Israeli Navy, targeted the docks at the Al Hodeidah port, along the Red Sea, Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said.
There were no reports of any immediate casualties in the two strikes, Reuters reported.
Israel and Yemen have engaged in a volley of airstrikes on each other amid the former's ongoing war in Gaza. The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, have launched fire at Israel and at ships travelling via the Red Sea, leading to a disruption of global trade.
The IDF said that the Hodeidah port was being used to advance terrorist activities in the region. 'The Hudaydah Port is used to transfer weapons and to exploit civilian infrastructure in order to advance terrorist activities,' the IDF said in a post on X.
They also said that the strikes had been carried out in response to the 'repeated missile and UAV attacks on Israeli territory'. The IDF added that advance warnings had been issued to the people residing in the area to 'mitigate the risk of harm to uninvolved civilians in the area'. Israel has weakened Iran's allies – Palestinian militant group Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah, carrying out retaliatory strikes in the region.
The country has also managed to intercept most missiles or drones launched on its territory. The Houthis had stepped up its attacks on Israel last month, with the IDF saying that it intercepted missiles launched from Yemen on May 22.

'We are steadfastly committed to the two-state solution which is the only way to guarantee security and dignity for Israelis and Palestinians and ensure long term stability in the region, but it is imperilled by extremist settler violence and settlement expansion,' a joint statement by the five countries said. It further stated that the two Israeli ministers 'have incited extremist violence and serious abuses of Palestinian human rights. Extremist rhetoric advocating the forced displacement of Palestinians and the creation of new Israeli settlements is appalling and dangerous'. 'We have engaged the Israeli Government on this issue extensively, yet violent perpetrators continue to act with encouragement and impunity,' the statement added. The sanctions by the five Western nations are a break from the position of United States – Israel's closest ally. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has condemned the joint action, writing on X: 'These sanctions do not advance US-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war'. He called on the five Western nations to withdraw the sanctions, adding that the US 'stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel.' Smotrich and Ben-Gvir have faced criticism for their hardline stance on Israel's war in Gaza. His entry into mainstream politics signalled a rightward shift in the Israeli electorate. He won his first parliamentary seat in 2021. After the 2022 elections, Ben-Gvir and his far-right allies helped bring Netanyahu to power. 'Over the last year I've been on a mission to save Israel,' he told reporters ahead of the election at the time. 'Millions of citizens are waiting for a real right-wing government. The time has come to give them one.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Who is Bezalel Smotrich? Israel's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is the head of the Religious Zionist Party. He was born in the occupied Golan Heights in 1980 and currently lives in the occupied West Bank. A religious fundamentalist, he has repeatedly called for Israeli settlers to return to Gaza. Smotrich has a significant influence over Netanyahu and has the power to bring down his government. The Israeli minister, who studied at a small religious school in Beit El, near Ramallah, believes that Jews have a divine right to the entire land that constituted biblical Israel. In May, Smotrich said that for him, the victory in Gaza would be that the territory is 'destroyed' and civilians are shifted to a 'humanitarian zone' in the south of the strip or leave for third countries. He was first elected to the Knesset in 2015. Two years later, Smotrich, a lawyer, wrote a manifesto titled Israel's Decisive Plan to solve the Palestinian question. He gave three options to Palestinians in the West Bank and Israel's Arab citizens: leave with financial aid, live without the right to vote, or fight and die. 'My long-term desire is for the state of Israel to be governed according to the Torah or Jewish holy scripture,' he once told Israeli radio. Pakistani man extradited to US for plotting attack at Jewish centre in NYC
A Pakistani citizen has been extradited from Canada to the United States to face charges of attempting to carry out a terrorist attack on a Jewish centre in New York City. The accused, 20-year-old Muhammad Shahzeb Khan—also known as Shahzeb Jadoon—allegedly plotted to carry out a mass shooting in support of the Islamic State (ISIS). The planned attack was scheduled for October 7, 2024, coinciding with the first anniversary of the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. In a post on X, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel said that Khan intended to travel from Canada to New York to execute the attack at a Jewish centre in Brooklyn. He was arrested by Canadian authorities on September 4, 2024 in Ormstown, Quebec, approximately 12 miles from the US-Canada border. The FBI said undercover officers posing as conspirators were instrumental in disrupting the plot. Khan reportedly discussed his plans with these undercover agents, including his desire to use automatic weapons to maximise casualties among the Jewish community. FBI hails joint efforts in foiling planned attack Kash Patel commended the joint operation between the FBI's New York, Chicago and Los Angeles field offices and their Canadian counterparts. 'This case is a reminder of the constant threat of terrorism facing every corner of the world—as well as the disturbing rise in threats against our Jewish communities,' Patel said. Khan now faces charges in the US for attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organisation and for attempting to commit acts of terrorism. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The Justice Department reiterated its commitment to countering extremist violence, highlighting the role of international collaboration in averting the planned mass attack. Recently, on May 21, two Israeli Embassy staff members were fatally shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, after attending a diplomatic event.
