The blue checkmark had previously indicated that an account belonged to a public figure whose identity was verified but Musk changed it to indicate it belonged to a paid subscriber after acquiring X in 2022. X has not admitted wrongdoing and the prominent display of the blue checkmark disclaimer is not part of any settlement proposal with the EU tech enforcer, the person said. The prominent display started a week ago. The Commission said it took note of X's announcement. "Our investigation related to the blue checkmark is ongoing," a spokesperson said. X did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. The EU probe is under the Digital Services Act which requires large online platforms to do more to tackle illegal and harmful content or risk fines as much as 6% of their global annual revenue. Since April, Beijing has asked for licences to export these key commodities from China, which accounts for more than 60% of rare earth mining production and 92% of worldwide refined output, according to the International Energy Agency. The metals are used in a broad range of goods, including electric vehicle batteries, and industry leaders have criticised China's licensing process. 'China attaches great importance to Europe's concerns and is willing to establish a green channel for eligible applications, fast track the examination and approval, and instruct the working level to maintain timely communication on this,' a ministry statement said. The comments were attributed to China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, who met Tuesday with EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic. The two officials also discussed imports by European countries of Chinese electric vehicles, which the EU has hit with levies over allegedly unfair subsidies from Beijing. India hits China, Japan and EU with fresh anti-dumping duties on vitamin and rubber chemical imports

The move aims to protect domestic manufacturers from low-priced imports that affect the local duties, which will remain in place for five years, were announced by the finance ministry in a notification issued late on Friday. The decision follows investigations by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which found that both substances were being exported to India at unfairly low prices, either below cost or under their fair market value, thereby undercutting Indian products are essential to major industries in India.
