His final words were: "I will see you on the other side, all of you."
Jordan was one of several on the state's death row who had attempted to sue over its three-drug execution protocol - which he claimed is inhumane.
I've stared into eyes of hundreds of death row inmates in their final moments - why I believe no one deserves to die
During a
news
conference after the execution, Keith Degruy, a spokesperson for Marter's family, read a statement on behalf of her
Charles
and their two sons - who didn't attend the execution.
It read: "Nothing will bring back our mom, sister and our friend. Nothing can ever change what Jordan took from us 49 years ago.
"Jordan tried desperately to change his ruling so he can simply die in prison. We never had an option."
Mississippi Supreme Court records show that in January 1976, Jordan called the Gulf National Bank in Gulfport and asked to speak with a loan officer.
After being given a name - Charles Marter - as someone who could speak to him, Jordan looked up his home address.
He went round to the house where he found Edwina and kidnapped her, records show.

According to court records, Jordan took her to a forest and fatally shot her before calling her husband, claiming she was safe and demanding $25,000.
Jordan's execution was just the third in the state in the last 10 years - with the last one in December 2022.
However, a man was executed in
Florida
the day before Jordan.
Eric Marter, 11 when his mother was killed, said that other family members were planning on attending the execution.
He said: "It should have happened a long time ago.
"I'm not really interested in giving him the benefit of the doubt.
"He needs to be punished."
Jordan was one of 22 people sentenced in the 1970s who were still on death row at the beginning of this year, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.
His execution ended a decades of wrangling in the
courts
which encompassed four trials and numerous appeals.
On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected a petition that argued he was denied due process rights.
His lawyer, Krissy Nobile, said: "He was never given what for a long time the
law
has entitled him to, which is a mental
health
professional that is independent of the prosecution and can assist his defense."
She claimed that his jury never got to hear about his Vietnam experiences.

Damages case brought by man who hurt back while emptying wheelbarrow thrown out
A High Court judge has thrown out a case brought by a former stablehand who wanted damages for hurting his back while emptying a wheelbarrow. Mark Lawless brought proceedings over a March 9, 2016, incident at Rossmore Cottage Stables in The Curragh, Co Kildare, where he was employed by racehorse trainer Adrian Keatley. Mr Lawless, who now works as an auctioneer, sought compensation from Mr Keatley for an injury he allegedly sustained to his back when he emptied soiled hay from a wheelbarrow. In a judgment, Mr Justice Michael Twomey said this incident was an 'everyday misfortunate mishap', for which Mr Keatley was not liable, and dismissed Mr Lawless' case. Mr Lawless left his job as a stablehand after about six to eight weeks of work at Mr Keatley's stables. The judge noted that the Supreme Court previously ruled that courts should approach personal injury claims with 'common sense' and 'some degree of scepticism'. In this vein, the judge said it was his view that if the wheelbarrow incident occurred in Mr Lawless' own garden, it would be regarded as an 'accident', with no one to blame. The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week This approach is also relevant in considering the evidence of expert witnesses called during the hearing. 'A court does not require an engineer to tell it that one should empty a wheelbarrow on the flat, and not try to empty a wheelbarrow on an upward incline, since this is basic common sense,' the judge said. The judge also said it was his view that Mr Lawless was mistaken in the recollection of the incident: on the balance of probabilities, he emptied the wheelbarrow on a flat surface, rather than – as Mr Lawless said during the hearing of the case – an incline. Emptying the wheelbarrow on an incline is 'unorthodox', the judge said. 'If he had done so, in this court's view, he would have made that claim in his pleadings.' Even if Mr Lawless' recollection was correct, the judge said, he was not entitled to make that claim at the hearing. He also said Mr Lawless had a responsibility to ensure the surface he was emptying the wheelbarrow on was flat. 'If he failed to do so and then decided to roll a wheelbarrow up an incline and seek to empty it on that incline, any injury to his back is not the responsibility of his employer,' the judge said. The judge said it was his preliminary view that the costs of the proceedings at both the High Court and the Circuit Court should be awarded against Mr Lawless.

He has previously been jailed for the manslaughter of a man at a homeless shelter. In the latest scare, charges said he had attended a building where he believed singer Cheryl to be present in Buckinghamshire on June 19. He was then understood to have been arrested in a swoop on his bail hostel. READ MORE ON CHERYL Last Saturday he appeared before Reading magistrates' court when he was remanded in custody. He returned to the court yesterday to plead guilty to a single count of breaching the restraining order. District judge Davinder Sandhu refused bail and sent the case to the town's crown court for sentencing on September 23. Most read in Celebrity In March, when the creep was caged for 16 weeks, a court heard how his campaign of harassment began when he went to Cheryl's mansion on January 25, 2024. The former X Factor judge saw a stranger approach her doorbell camera and say: 'It's Dan. I've come to get Cheryl.' Cheryl terrorised by convicted killer stalker who turned up at home 3 weeks after Liam Payne funeral He called again in July 2024 and asked through the intercom: 'I'm really thirsty. Can I have a glass of wine please?' The court at the time heard he 'can't stay away' from the singer. Prosecutor Datta Ryan said that visit had made Cheryl feel 'violated and terrified and unsafe in her home'. Bannister was arrested and jailed for four months in September 2024, when he got a three-year restraining order banning him from contacting her. But after he was released from prison he returned to the property on December 10, 2024 — We told how Bannister's visit came weeks after grieving Cheryl had attended the funeral of her ex, One Direction star and Bear's dad Liam Payne, who fell to his death in Buenos Aires last October. In a statement to cops — read to the court this March — Cheryl said: 'I immediately panicked when I saw Daniel. I was in a state of alarm and shock. I feared for my safety immediately and I feared for my child's safety. He was due back from the cinema and I didn't want him to see Daniel.' 6 Previous incidents have left Girls Aloud star Cheryl — mum to son Bear — 'violated and terrified' Credit: The Mega Agency 6 Bannister's visit came weeks after grieving Cheryl had attended the funeral of her ex, One Direction star and Bear's dad Liam Payne Credit: PA:Press Association Bannister's lawyer said the wannabe musician had gone back to the house after his arrest because he wanted to 'reassure her'. Lawyer Colin Mackrell said Bannister 'formed in his mind an affectionate view of Ms Tweedy and he believes that was somehow reciprocated'. A judge imposed a new indefinite order which prevents him from contacting Cheryl or entering any building where he knows or believes she might be. Bannister was previously jailed for 30 months in 2012 for manslaughter after he launched a 'sustained' fatal attack on Rajendra Patel, 48. CCTV showed Bannister punching and kicking Mr Patel at a YMCA in Croydon, South East London. Last night, neighbours of the Brixton bail hostel which Bannister gave as his address in court described him as a wild-haired loner. Police were understood to have arrested him there just a day after he called cops to accuse a neighbour of trying to break into his home. One man, 35, said: 'When the police arrested him he was just smiling. He was paranoid. Another neighbour, 25, said: 'We didn't have any interaction with the guy. He looked like he was in his own head.
