The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) has concluded the 'TechEdge' program conducted in collaboration with the National University of Singapore, the National Bank of Kuwait, and Zain, which aims to enhance the skills of national youth who are kickstarting their careers in the fields of advanced technology such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Cybersecurity.
The program, held in Singapore for two weeks, has successfully achieved its objectives, which focused on raising awareness about the importance of Cybersecurity and data protection in the backdrop of rising digital challenges. The participants were able to better understand the technology and tools used in these fields, enabling them to face cyber threats and protect the digital infrastructure.
Moreover, this program is part of the fruitful collaboration between KFAS, NBK, and Zain aimed at supporting Kuwait Vision 2035 that strives to diversify the economy and enhance reliance on modern technology and digitalization. The program joined a distinctive group of ambitious Kuwaiti youth who showed great commitment and enthusiasm throughout.
KFAS affirmed it will continue to develop society and establish an atmosphere of creativity and innovation by tapping into various initiatives and programs that aim to prepare competent and competitive youth in the technologically advanced job market, especially with the national youth's remarkable digital capabilities that need support to enable them become pioneers in advanced technology and ultimately accelerate digital transformation and sustainable development in Kuwait.
On this occasion, Mr. Emad Al-Ablani, Group Chief Human Resources Officer said: 'At NBK, we strongly believe in the importance of promoting creativity and innovation by launching various programs and initiatives that aim to develop qualified national professionals and cooperating with government institutions and strategic partners to make a positive impact in society and create a motivating environment for the youth, which further put NBK at the forefront of institutions in social responsibility initiatives.
Al-Ablani added: 'The collaboration with KFAS and Zain reflects our commitment to supporting knowledge and innovation. The 'TechEdge' program, for instance, stands as a great opportunity for trainees who are just kickstarting their careers to develop their skills, as it gives these young trainees the chance to receive high quality training and education in collaboration with the National University in Singapore, which is known as one of the pioneering institutions in the field of technology.'

The signing ceremony, held at Bayan Palace in the presence of Sheikh Mansour and Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, underscores the two Gulf nations' intent to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties amid evolving regional dynamics. The agreements span a wide range of areas, with key MoUs covering healthcare, infrastructure, investment, social development, energy transition, and AI, as both countries pursue mutual development priorities and enhanced regional integration. UAE-Kuwait agreements signed According to the WAM report, the key deals signed cover sectors such as: Health: MoUs were signed between the UAE and Kuwait's health ministries to boost collaboration in medical services and public health policy. Education: Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in the education sector through a pact signed by their respective ministers of education. Energy and infrastructure: MoUs included commitments to collaborate in land transport, roads, oil and gas, and future energy initiatives such as water and electricity. Technology and industry: A separate agreement focused on industry and advanced technology was signed to support innovation and knowledge exchange. Humanitarian and legal affairs: Joint frameworks were agreed to address human trafficking and legal cooperation, reflecting a shared focus on rights and rule of law. Investment: The UAE's Minister of Investment and the head of Kuwait's Direct Investment Promotion Authority signed an MoU to promote bilateral investment flows. Security and data: Ministries of Interior from both sides inked an MoU on data protection and joint security information-sharing projects. AI partnership initiated, naval contract with EDGE The Kuwait Investment Authority joined the 'Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership' initiative, which includes global partners MGX, BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Microsoft — adding regional backing to the tech-driven project. In a separate defence agreement, Kuwait's Ministry of Defence signed a contract with UAE-based EDGE Group for the procurement of several 'Falaj 3' class missile boats, highlighting deepening defence industry ties between the two states. Representing the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and one of the highest-value naval export deals globally, the agreement positions EDGE as the prime contractor overseeing the design, construction, trials, delivery, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and In-Service Support (ISS) for the vessels. EDGE will also supply ammunition, highlighting its end-to-end defence capabilities. Rabee Securities Iraq Stock Exchange Index posts 0.7% growth in May

The Rabee Securities Iraq Stock Exchange Index (RSISX Index) rose by 0.7 per cent in May, supported by gains in Asiacell, Baghdad Soft Drinks, National Bank of Iraq, and Al-Mansour Bank. Meanwhile, the RSISX Total Return Index (RSISXTR) outperformed, rising 6.4 per cent, driven by strong dividend activity. Key contributors included Bank of Baghdad (IQD0.65 per share, 14.5 per cent yield), Asiacell (IQD1.50 per share, 11.5 per cent yield), and Al-Mansour Hotel (IQD0.17 per share, 0.4 per cent yield). Tugba Tan Karakaya, Equity Analyst at Rabee Securities, commented: 'The market's performance this month reinforces investor confidence in core sectors like banking and telecom. Despite softer trading volumes, we are seeing healthy signals in dividend yields and price movements. As Iraq advances on reforms and financial inclusion, the medium-term fundamentals remain promising.' Total trading volume on the Iraq Stock Exchange (ISX) declined 21 per cent month-on-month to $21.8 million. Excluding cross-transactions, the volume stood at $18.2 million, a 24 per cent drop. The banking sector remained dominant, accounting for 60.1 per cent of trades, followed by telecom (19.8 per cent), industry (13.1 per cent), services (3.2 per cent), agriculture (2.1 per cent), and hotels & tourism (1.6 per cent). Trading activity in the OTC market also dipped 10 per cent to $88.5K. In May, 27 companies recorded share price increases. Of these, 13 rose more than 5 per cent, and 9 gained over 10 per cent. Al-Ahlyia for Agricultural Production led the market with a 67.4 per cent surge, followed by Al-Hilal Industries, up 42.5 per cent. On the macroeconomic front, Iraq welcomed several key developments during the month. The IMF, during its May 4–13 visit, called for urgent reforms including fiscal consolidation, restructuring of state-owned banks, and private sector expansion. The 34th Ordinary Arab League Summit was held in Baghdad on May 17, hosting delegations from 20 Arab countries. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) launched its first National Financial Inclusion Strategy (2025–2029), aiming to expand secure access to financial services nationwide. Additionally, Iraq signed a strategic deal with a consortium led by China-based Geo-Jade Petroleum and Basra Crescent. The agreement targets a fivefold increase in output from the Tuba oil field rising from 20,000 to 100,000 barrels per day—and includes investment in downstream infrastructure totaling $848 million.
