Gucci makes its first saree for Alia Bhatt

Italian luxury fashion brand Gucci made its first ever saree for Alia Bhatt to dress the Bollywood celebrity for the closing of the 78th Cannes Film Festival in France, fusing its own design language with Indian heritage aesthetics. "Along la Croisette, friends of the House were captured in Gucci during the 78th Annual Cannes Film Festival at red carpet premieres and photo calls," announced Gucci on Facebook, sharing images of Bhatt along with global celebrities including Dakota Johnson among others. Bhatt wore a metallic saree which was fully stitched with Gucci's signature monogram design. Embellished with Swarovski crystals, the saree had a sleek silhouette and created a chainmail-esque nude illusion. Bhatt's ensemble reflected both the actress' increasing prominence in the global film industry and Gucci's intensifying focus on India's growing luxury market. Indian celebrity stylist Rhea Kapoor finished Bhatt's look with lightweight jewellery, the Times of India reported. Bhatt is a global ambassador for L'Oréal Paris, which has been an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival for 26 years, according to its website. Gucci was founded in Florence, Italy in 1921, according to its official website. The luxury label entered the Indian market in 2007 and today counts flagship stores in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata.
