Recently paroled local man charged with rape

A Jennings man, has been charged with second-degree rape following an alleged assault.
According to Jennings Police, Tristan Trumaine West, 44, encountered the victim near the 1700 block of North Cary Street on Thursday. After befriending her, West asked to use the restroom at her residence as she and other occupants were returning inside.
Once inside, West allegedly confronted the victim in the living room and admitted to officers that he sexually assaulted her. The victim told police that she had pleaded with West to stop, but the attack continued until other occupants in the home intervened.
Jennings police arrived shortly after receiving the initial call and reported finding West pulling up his pants.
During the investigation, it was learned West is a local transient with a violent criminal history.
He was recently released from parole for resisting an officer and possession of Fentanyl.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police Chief Danny Semmes commended the victim for her bravery for speaking with police about the assault and the other occupants for intervening until police arrived.
West remains in the Jeff Davis Parish Jail on a $75,000 bond.

2 charged in toddler's drug overdose
A High Point woman was arrested Monday and charged in a fentanyl-induced overdose by a toddler last September, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office and an arrest warrant said. Brittney Danielle Hohn, 32, of Rockingham Road was arrested June 9 during a traffic stop and charged with felony negligent child abuse causing serious physical injury. The sheriff's office said it was contacted Sept. 24 by an area hospital in reference to an overdose, and Hohn's arrest warrant said a child under 2 had ingested fentanyl. Hohn and Richard Kimery Mitchell Jr., 43, of Wedgewood Terrace, Trinity, are accused of leaving drugs where the child could reach them, according to arrest warrants. Mitchell was arrested Jan. 14 and also charged with felony negligent child abuse causing serious physical injury. He was released April 21 after posting $50,000 secured bond. Hohn was being held Wednesday in the Randolph County Detention Center with bond set at $150,000 secured.

Fourth wrongful-death lawsuit filed against men accused in 2024 deaths of Chiefs fans
A Lebanon, Missouri woman is suing two men facing charges in the drug-related deaths of her son and two other men. It marks the fourth wrongful-death lawsuit against the pair. Norma Chester, the mother of 38-year-old Ricky Johnson, filed the suit on Monday against Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson, who are accused of supplying drugs at a Kansas City Chiefs game watch party at Willis' home in January 2024. Johnson and two other men, 37-year-old David Harrington and 36-year-old Clayton McGeeney, died of fentanyl and cocaine toxicity, according to an autopsy report. The three men were found dead in the backyard of a Northland home after McGeeney's fiancee told police that after she hadn't heard from McGeeney, she broke into the home's basement. In the back porch area, she found a dead body. Willis and Carson were charged with two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and three counts each of first-degree involuntary manslaughter in March, according to Platte County court documents. Chester is seeking damages on behalf of Johnson's three children, according to the lawsuit. The woman is suing on counts of negligence. Similarly to three other wrongful death lawsuits filed against the men, the June lawsuit alleges Willis and Carson 'knew or should have known that decedent was experiencing negative side effects from cocaine and/or fentanyl,' according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also alleges the pair failed to render aid or attempts to rescue the three men from the 'impacts caused by the cocaine and fentanyl.' Other wrongful-death lawsuits against Willis and Carson have been filed by Johnson's father, 64-year-old Rickie Johnson; McGeeny's mother, Nancy Bossert; and Harrington's father, Jon Harrington. Willis' attorney, John Picerno, previously told The Star that Willis maintains that he did not supply drugs at the watch party. Willis' DNA was found on a bag of cocaine at the scene and Carson's DNA was found on a bag of fentanyl, according to court documents. A hearing for the case is set to be held on Sept. 12, 2025.
