Trump's chief of staff is caught in sinister impersonation plot exposing America's most powerful players… until fatal slip reveals truth

Daily Mail30-05-2025

Donald Trump 's top advisor has fallen victim to a sinister scheme by hackers who infiltrated her phone and used artificial intelligence to impersonate her voice.
The nefarious plot involved stolen data from the personal cellphone of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles that was then used to call some of American's most powerful people.
Over the course of several weeks, high profile senators, governors and American business executives have received voicemails or messages from an unknown number claiming to be Wiles, Wall Street Journal reported.
Wiles has been contacting associates urging them to disregard any unusual messages or calls from unknown numbers purporting to be her.
In a terrifying twist, some of the phone calls used a voice that mimicked Wiles. Authorities suspect the impersonator used artificial intelligence to replicate it.
The FBI is now investigating the unusual situation, but do not believe that a foreign nation is behind it, sources told the publication.
'The FBI takes all threats against the president, his staff, and our cybersecurity with the utmost seriousness,' FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement.
'Safeguarding our administration officials' ability to securely communicate to accomplish the president's mission is a top priority.'
Authorities are reportedly scrambling to figure out what the goal of the plot is.
In at least one case the impersonator asked for a cash transfer, while in another they asked a lawmaker for a list of people who the president could consider pardoning.
But many of the texts which came through appeared to be legitimate and fooled some of Wiles' contacts. There are allegedly no suggestions that any sensitive information was handed over.
Some of her associates became suspicious when the impersonator began asking questions - sometimes about Trump - that Wiles as his closest advisor would have known the answers to.
Others said some messages were sent with poor grammar, and in a more formal manner than Wiles generally communicates.
These messages were not sent from Wiles' phone number.
Her personal cellphone contacts list was reportedly hacked, giving the impersonator access to a long list of numbers she has amassed over the years as one of Washington's most formidable political players.
Wiles was referred to as the 'most feared and least known political operative' prior to stepping into her now high-profile role.
She is now serving as the first female White House chief of staff in history after helping Trump to his historic victory in November as his campaign manager.
During the campaign, Iranians managed to hack into Wiles' email account and reportedly accessed a research dossier she had on file about Trump's running mate, now-vice president JD Vance.
Those who know Wiles best say she's an expert at shaping political narratives and an expert at 'managing personalities and managing information.'
And, according to associates, there's something else to know about Wiles: Don't cross her.
Her sheer power within the administration was on full display in early April amid reports she had fallen out with then-First Buddy, Elon Musk.
The Tesla founder treated Wiles, the most powerful woman in the White House, like a 'secretary,' a source told DailyMail.com at the time.
Nicknamed the 'Ice Maiden' for her cool, unflustered demeanor, Wiles earned accolades for bringing order to the chaos during the 2024 presidential campaign.
But her attempts to do the same in the White House were, at times, reportedly unwittingly undercut by Musk, who used his massive platform on X - where he has 218.5 million followers - to make announcements at the drop of a hat and throw firebombs of rhetoric into the ether.
For his part, Trump made it clear to Musk that he was a member of the staff and Wiles was in charge.
'It has been reiterated to him in ways that, yes, he reports to the chief of staff,' a Trump aide told NBC News of Musk.
Many Trump officials - including Wiles - were frustrated that Musk wasn't sharing his plans before he made public announcements about what his DOGE team was doing to their agencies.
His lack of coordination would throw off the White House message of the day and rollout plans for the administration's initiatives.
Musk, perhaps aware of tensions, tried to make amends. He offered to carry Wiles bag for her when they were walking across the South Lawn to board Marine One.
But in the wake of the bad blood rumors began to swirl that Musk grew increasingly on the outs within the administration.

Cops make major breakthrough after ex-NFL star robbed at gunpoint on his birthday

An arrest has been made in a string of robberies and burglaries targeting pro athletes in the Seattle area, including a now-retired Seahawks legend who was robbed at gunpoint on his birthday. In March, former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was victim of an armed robbery at his home by multiple individuals while his family was inside. Now, Seattle police have charged an unnamed 21-year-old man with a felony in connection with that robbery. The suspect has been hit with three additional felony charges for the burglaries of the homes of three baseball stars. Charges were filed in connection with the burglaries of the homes of Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez, and the home of Seattle native and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. It isn't clear why the man has not been named. He is being held in King County jail on a bail of $1million. The suspect has also been hit with felony charges in the burglaries of the homes of Seattle Mariners teammates Julio Rodriguez (L) and Luis Castillo (R) Sherman and his wife Ashley both released security footage in March of the armed men who robbed their home while she and their children were on the property. 'House being robbed at gun point with my family in it isn't what anyone wants for a birthday gift,' Sherman wrote on X alongside two grabs from his security footage. 'Scary situation that my Wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe. If anyone has any info that can help find these people please reach out.' Ashley posted video of the break in on social media, showing three men breaking in through a ground-floor window. As she explained, the couple's two children were not harmed physically. 'Thank you to everyone who has checked in. It is truly appreciated,' Ashley wrote on social media. 'The kids and I are physically ok. Very shaken up and hope to find these people soon. 'Waking up to intruders outside your bedroom with a gun is something no one should have to experience,' she added. 'Like I said they tried the wrong people! We WILL find you!' Sherman posted two grabs showing men walking into the home wearing masks and heavy jackets. One of the men is seen brandishing a pistol. One man from Covington, Washington replied to Sherman's post at the time, explaining that there had been similar robberies in his neighborhood. Sherman responded by requesting a direct message from the man, while adding that 'they got 5 homes from what the police told us.' Beyond that, much still remains unclear, including the exact whereabouts of Sherman's wife Ashley and their children, Rayden and Avery, during the robbery. One of the robbers is seen holding a pistol in his right hand as he approaches the door Police are investigating the March 29 burglary, according to TMZ. Sherman, a former Super Bowl winner and one of the elite cornerbacks in recent NFL history, turned 37 on March 30. He currently works as an NFL analyst for Amazon Prime. Many of the world's biggest sports stars, including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, have fallen victims to thieves over the past year. The worrying trend has seen criminals target the mansions and possessions of players from across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS and college sports - sometimes during games. At the end of last year, the FBI sent a warning out to professional sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes. Cops have launched a multi-state investigation into the spate of robberies, many of which - according to the authorities - are the work of a sophisticated crime ring. To be clear, there is no public proof that the men who robbed Sherman and his family are tied to the other robberies in various parts of the country.

Riot police, anti-ICE protesters square off in Los Angeles after raids

LOS ANGELES, June 6 (Reuters) - Helmeted police in riot gear turned out on Friday evening in a tense confrontation with protesters in downtown Los Angeles, after a day of federal immigration raids in which dozens of people across the city were reported to be taken into custody. Live Reuters video showed Los Angeles Police Department officers lined up on a downtown street wielding batons and what appeared to be tear gas rifles, facing off with demonstrators after authorities had ordered crowds of protesters to disperse around nightfall. Early in the standoff, some protesters hurled chunks of broken concrete toward officers, and police responded by firing volleys of tear gas and pepper spray. Police also fired "flash-bang" concussion rounds. It was not clear whether there were any immediate arrests. An LAPD spokesperson, Drake Madison, told Reuters that police on the scene had declared an unlawful assembly, meaning that those who failed to leave the area were subject to arrest. Television news footage earlier in the day showed caravans of unmarked military-style vehicles and vans loaded with uniformed federal agents streaming through Los Angeles streets as part of the immigration enforcement operation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents targeted several locations, including a Home Depot in the city's Wetlake District, an apparel store in the Fashion District and a clothing warehouse in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles City News Service (CNS). CNS and other local media reported dozens of people were taken into custody during the raids, the latest in a series of such sweeps conducted in a number of cities as part of President Donald Trump's extensive crackdown on illegal immigration. The Republican president has vowed to arrest and deport undocumented migrants in record numbers. The LAPD did not take part in the immigration enforcement action. It was deployed to quell civil unrest after crowds protesting the deportation raids spray-painted anti-ICE slogans on the walls of a federal court building and massed outside a nearby jail where some of the detainees were believed to be held. Impromptu demonstrations had also erupted at some of the raid locations earlier in the day. One organized labor executive, David Huerta, president of the Service Employees International Union of California, was injured and detained by ICE at one site, according to an SEIU statement. The union said Huerta was arrested "while exercising his First Amendment right to observe and document law enforcement activity." No details about the nature or severity of Huerta's injury were given. It was not clear whether he was charged with a crime. ICE did not immediately respond to a request from Reuters for information about its enforcement actions or Huerta's detention. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement condemning the immigration raids, saying, "these tactics sow terror in our communities and disrupt basic principles of safety in our city."

Diplomatic win for UK hosting US-China trade talks

Sky News understands that the Trump administration approached the UK government to ask if it would host round two of the US-China trade talks. This is a useful 'diplo-win' for the UK. The first round was held in Geneva last month. News of that happening came as a surprise. The Chinese and the Americans were in the midst of a Trump-instigated trade war. President Trump was en route to Saudi Arabia and suddenly we got word of talks in Switzerland. They went surprisingly well. US treasury secretary Scott Bessent and his Chinese counterpart He Lifeng, met face-to-face and agreed to suspend most tariffs for 90 days. But two weeks later, the Trump administration accused Beijing of breaking the agreements reached in Geneva. Beijing threw the blame back at Washington. On Wednesday, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping spoke by phone. The Chinese claimed this call was at the Americans' request. Either way, the consequence was that the talks were back on track. "I just concluded a very good phone call with President Xi of China, discussing some of the intricacies of our recently made, and agreed to, trade deal," President Trump said this week. From that call came the impetus for a second round of talks. A venue was needed. In stepped the UK at short notice. Beyond being geographically convenient, UK government sources suggest that Britain is geopolitically in the right place right now to act as this bridge and facilitator. The UK-China relationship is in the process of a "reset". Other locations, like Brussels or other EU capitals, would have been less workable. Crucially too, for the UK, this is also potentially advantageous as it seeks to get its own UK-US trade agreement, to eliminate or massively reduce tariffs, over the line. 5:08 Talks on reaching the "implementation phase" have been near-continuous since the announcement last month, but having the American principals in London is a plus. Sideline talks are possible, but even the presence of the US team in the UK is helpful. For all the chaos that President Trump is causing with his tariffs, he has instigated face-to-face conversations as he seeks resets. Key players are sitting down around tables - yes, to untangle the trade knots which Trump tied, but this whole episode has pulled foes together around the same table; it has forced relationships and maybe mutual understanding. That's useful. And for this next round, between superpowers, the UK is the host. Also useful.
