The Oura ring is our fitness editor's favorite tracker — here's how to get $100 off
As a fitness editor, I've tried pretty much every wearable out there. From the all-new Whoop 5 to the Apple Watch, I love a fitness tracker and I've tested them all. They range in price and what they offer in terms of features and of course, some are more impressive than others. However, there's one device I've personally been wearing solidly for years — the Oura ring (was $299, now $199, Ouraring.com).
My Oura ring has never let me down. I use it to track my sleep, energy levels, menstrual cycle, and recovery and this tiny, chic device has helped me take my health and wellbeing to new heights.
The only drawback with the Oura ring is that it's expensive. But, that's no longer an issue as the Oura ring gen 3 now has a saving of $100.
The Oura ring 4 ($349, Amazon.com) was voted the best smart ring on the market by senior tech writer Alex Lee and despite Samsung recently launching its Galaxy ring, Oura remains a firm favorite for fans of wearables, myself included. I love how the gold finish matches the rest of my jewelry and how lightweight, well-fitting, and easy to wear it is. Of course, you can also get the Oura in silver and cool, minimalist black as well as rose gold.
The ring uses sensors inside the band to track variables that feedback information on your sleep quality, heart rate, and a raft of other health markers. To benefit from the discount and learn why I think you should invest, keep scrolling.
If you're shopping for a tracker that simply measures fitness levels, there are plenty to choose from, but what makes the Oura ring special is that it offers much more. Not only is it small, lightweight, and easy to wear, it offers a range of insights that other trackers don't.
My favorite features are the daily tags you can add to your activity log and the cycle calendar — which helps track your mood, sleep, and energy levels and predict the coming phases of your cycle.
I've also found that I've been able to improve my sleep quality using the Oura ring — the sensors track your heart rate variability to track how long you spend in each phase of light, deep, and REM sleep, and by checking this and adapting the environment in my bedroom, taking my supplements at different times and going to bed earlier, I've been able to improve my overall sleep scores and rest better thanks to the ring.
While the ring and subscription to the app aren't exactly cheap, this has been one of the most worthwhile investments I've made for my health.
Oura ring 3 vs Oura ring 4
The deal on the third-generation Oura ring is impressively low and this is likely because Oura recently launched the ring 4. So, should you buy the newer model over the less expensive ring 3 that's on sale right now? Well, this all depends on what you're looking for in a smart ring.
Both the Oura ring 3 and 4 are titanium-based, but the inside of the newer version is now wrapped in high-grade metal instead of the plastic used on the gen 3. The Oura ring 4 is also lighter, at 3.3-5.2g (depending on size), compared with 4-6g. While both versions of the ring promise to deliver similar metrics and insights, the ring 4 features an improved sensor platform that sits flusher with the ring, and it has an improved battery life, which is up to eight days, compared with the ring 3's seven days.
In his review of the latest Oura ring, tech expert Alex said: 'The main benefit that the Oura ring 4 provides, compared with the gen 3, is improved durability, comfort and accuracy. This isn't a generational upgrade over the Oura ring 3, merely strengthening its position as the best smart ring out there for sleep tracking and recovery.'

The thank you letter is dying. Here's how to write the perfect one
When I was growing up, the moment I finished opening my birthday or Christmas presents, my mother would press stationery into my hands and urge me to write my thank you notes. She even kept a detailed logbook. But in this digital age, is the proper handwritten thank you letter becoming a lost art? That would be a real shame on two counts. It's a lovely way to show your appreciation for someone's hospitality or gfit-giving. But, more selfishly, it can benefit the thank-you-note sender. A new study published in the journal PLOS One suggests that writing a grateful missive can actually enhance our mental well-being. 'It definitely gives you a justified feeling of virtue,' says Liz Wyse, the editor of Debrett's. 'Also if you're projecting positivity, and taking the time to savour a pleasant recollection of a good evening, that boosts your own mood. It's a win-win.' From tone and timing to enlisting a reluctant child or spouse, Wyse offers her expert advice on the etiquette of the thank you note. Keep it short and sweet A thank you letter needn't be inordinately lengthy, advises Wyse. 'The old-fashioned formula still applies: open with your thanks, being specific about why you appreciated the gift or hospitality, then move out into something more general, and come back for a reiterated thanks and sign-off. It shouldn't just be a bald thank you, so include some news or chit-chat, but you can do all of that in two or three paragraphs.' Avoid empty clichés Wyse cautions against slipping into banal phrases such as: 'Thank you for having me, I had a lovely time.' She explains: 'It has the effect of sounding very dutiful and uninspired.' The tone of your letter should reflect your existing relationship, she adds. 'You will probably communicate very differently with your grandmother than your best friend.' So while you might begin both with a simple 'Dear...', she explains, you could then be more informal in your phrasing with a friend, such as referencing a shared long-running joke, to make it part of an ongoing conversation. Wyse recommends picking out a specific aspect you enjoyed and injecting a note of real enthusiasm, punctuated with an exclamation mark: 'You made my favourite dessert even better by adding fresh berries from your garden – what a treat!' Crucially, your letter shouldn't sound rote – or AI-generated. Your sign-off should sum up the spirit of your letter. Don't even think about deploying a boring 'Best wishes' or 'Yours sincerely'. Instead opt for the warm, affectionate 'Much love'.

Walmart slammed for robot parking lot security guard: 'Doing everything but paying workers'
Customers have slammed Walmart for its use of a robot security guard. A shopper known as Goldpinemusic on TikTok recently posted a video of the machine roaming around a Walmart parking lot. The TikToker joked about the security robot keeping the rough Walmart streets safe and asked the guard what its name was. The machine answered her question by stating it did not have a name yet. Walmart's robot security guards began appearing at select stores in 2018. This led a commenter on the video to accuse the retailer of 'doing everything but paying workers.' 'Yeah they laid off the human security guy,' another commenter responded. 'Waste of money. They need more cashiers and less self checkout,' another person wrote. Walmart has implemented various technological measures to modernize its stores, including secret codes on select products and new AI technology in Sam's Club. Multiple customers believed the robot security guards were a 'waste of money' Walmart began using a robot named 'Tally' in 2015 to make sure shelves were fully stocked, accurately priced, and labeled. The robots were tested in a handful of stores in Arkansas, Pennsylvania, and California. The tests proved to be a success, and by 2017, Tally robots were used in 50 stores, according to New Atlas. The shelf-scanning robots made their way to at least 1,000 locations in 2020, and by then, Walmart had begun adding security robots to select stores. Multiple states began implementing what's known as 'Lot Cops' in parking lots. The robot security guards are mobile, solar-powered security systems used to film illegal actions. 'Well, I thought it's the police, you know? Now they really can see what you're doing out here, really,' Hawaii resident Lynn Tavares told KHON2 in 2018. Alabama residents expressed their support for the security guard robots while speaking with FOX 54, because of higher chances of crime crackdowns. Walmart tested a handful of robots used to make sure shelves are fully stocked, accurately priced, and labeled in 2015 Besides robot security guards, some Walmart stores have implemented self-checkout tools to decrease the chances of card skimming. The company has also found unique ways to lower Walmart crime rates, which includes anti-theft packaging in meat aisles. Walmart is also busy working on its $9 billion makeover for 1,400 stores. About $1.6 billion of the investment was used for 650 US locations, which is all part of the chain's 'Stores of the Future' initiative. But the retailer is also facing some backlash for raising its prices as a result of tariffs. Current workers have leaked photos showing the cost of select items had risen 80 percent.
