Noodt shakes off illness to reach T100 podium
Mika Noodt brushed off any remnants of a lingering cold to clinch his first T100 podium of the season in San Francisco.
The 24-year-old German produced a strong finish to surge into third place in the second event of the season, fending off challenges from across the course.
It saw Noodt join compatriot Rico Bogen on the podium, with only Belgium's Jelle Geens separating the two countrymen in first and third place.
It was a defining performance from Noodt, who finished fifth in the same event last year, made even more impressive when the triathlete revealed that he had been struggling with a cold in the lead-up to the race.
'It was a solid swim and it felt quite easy but I didn't want to push too hard to get to the front and instead stayed in the middle of the pack," he said.
"On the bike I was on my own quite a lot and rode with my own rhythm.
"I struggled with my throat a bit since I had a cold going into this week but it got better during the race.
"On the run it was very technical and on the way out we had a headwind and it so it was like a fartlek run.
"But I managed to do well and then on the final lap I managed to do a hard surge for 20 seconds to make the podium."
Noodt was firmly in the middle of the pack for the majority of the race before punching forward in the latter stages of the run to overhaul last year's victor Marten Van Riel, wildcard Jamie Riddle and New Zealand's Kyle Smith.
A first podium of the season also marks a first T100 podium since a third place finish in Ibiza last year.
And with the plenty of races still to come in a long season of middle-distance racing, Noodt noted that there is still plenty more to come as he aims for a maiden T100 victory.
He added: "I feel like I haven't peaked yet in training this season but I think this sets me up well for the season and there is still room for improvement."

England fans all on the same page after seeing Thomas Tuchel's latest selections
Thomas Tuchel has included some surprises in his England starting XI against Andorra as Jordan Henderson starts for the Three Lions in the World Cup qualifier being played in Spain Thomas Tuchel has left some England supporters scratching their heads with his team selection for the World Cup qualifier against Andorra. It is a game the Three Lions are expected to win comfortably but that has not stopped scrutiny over Tuchel's choices in his third match in charge. The former Chelsea boss has stunned many with his continued faith in Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson, 34, in addition with some interesting choices across the pitch. Fans were required to get out their pen and paper to figure out what the German coach was plotting. Tuchel was without Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, while Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka was judged not fit enough to feature. Watkins was judged injured enough to depart the squad for his recovery. More mysteriously, Tuchel's decision appears to see Curtis Jones on the right side of England's backline, and Reece James on the left as Dan Burn and Ezri Konsa make up the central partnership. There was certainly attacking intent in the England selection but Myles Lewis-Skelly, a player who grew up a midfielder before being utilised a left-back for Arsenal was left on the bench. There was no shortage of attacking players included further up the pitch however. Jones may advance past Henderson to join Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Noni Madueke and Harry Kane in forward positions. "It is on us to bring the attacking energy to the pitch and to do this in a relentless way," said Tuchel ahead of the game. "It is important not to over expect from us in terms of already a clear result, biggest chances, goals already after 10 or 20 minutes, and get impatient and get frustrated with ourselves. "I think it's a test of our patience. Andorra played against Spain and it was 1-0 at half-time with a set-piece". Fans weren't convinced he would meet his ambitions however. One social media user said: "Possibly the worst England team I've seen in recent times. "It's so bad it's actually funny. If anybody watched Spain v France in midweek this England team is a million miles from that." "Why not just drop Henderson for Lewis-Skelly, move James to his natural place at RB and move Jones into Henderson's place! Playing a RB at LB and a CM at RB is beyond bizarre," said another. "A truly attacking team has Jordan Henderson nowhere near it," said one supporter. "It's 2025 and Jordan Henderson is starting for England..." added further fan Henderson however, declared himself ready to contribute. "It means I am ready to play," he told ITV on his selection. "It is nice to be in the starting XI, but I want to help the team perform as best we can and do the job, really. I think it is just making sure we continue with the ball all the time. When we lose the ball high up the pitch, move it quickly. It is about the overall performance with and without the ball, and we should try to take some risks in the final third." And a fourth joked: "Can someone tell me the formation we're playing? I'm confused. Who is playing in defence?" There's no place in the starting lineup for Ivan Toney, who Tuchel has recalled to the England setup despite his controversial move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. While Bukayo Saka misses out on a place in the matchday squad entirely after struggling with an injury he suffered while with Arsenal. Saka is yet to feature under Tuchel after he withdrew from the German's first camp with injury too. Speaking on Friday, Tuchel said of Saka: "He came into camp with a little bit of discomfort from the last match against Southampton, so we took care of him and treated him individually until today basically. 'It was the first training session that he started and finished with the group. Yesterday, he started with the group but did not finish with the group, so let's see. "I'm not sure if we take the risk for tomorrow's game. "The decision has not been taken, but he will be available for the Senegal match, and he plays a major role in our thoughts how to build a competitive team. 'I think just that he grew in his personality with every season that he played so consistently for his club, and the club grew with him and became so competitive." 6 Ivan Toney starts on the bench for England Credit: PA
