Bill introduced at Statehouse adds required safety course for drivers who commit traffic violations in work zones
CLEVELAND (WJW) — A new bill introduced in the Ohio House of Representatives, House Bill 82, would require drivers who commit a traffic violation in a work zone to also complete a driver's safety course.
The sponsors of the bill are state Reps. Gary Click (R-Sandusky) and Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe).

Click and Johnson introduced a similar bill during the last General Assembly, which included tons of fees.
This time, they're trying to reach people's hearts instead of their wallets to try and protect the men and women improving highways and roads on behalf of the state.
'These are real people that wear the vests and the hard hats out there on these highways and doing the real work, and hopefully it will make people think about, 'Here's what happened, here's what could've happened and here's what I don't want to have happen. I don't want to have this on my conscience,'' Click said.
Johnson added, 'We've got to change hearts and minds and attitudes on our highways.'
Failure to complete the training course within 30 days of a citation would result in a $400 fine.
The pair told FOX 8 News that they want to inspire people to slow down and not drive distracted.
They said there are countless stories of construction workers who were injured or killed while on the job.

They're naming HB 82 after Trenton Gallaway.
Last October, Gallaway, 20, was hit and killed while doing maintenance work in Richland County.
'When you get to hear those real-life stories stories of those moms and those dads, of Mr. and Mrs. Galloway, who lost a 20-year-old son. I mean this guy was young and full of life,' Click said of the impactful stories that can be told related to this bill.
Click and Johnson both called the legislation common sense and non-partisan.
They believe all lawmakers should support it, and are willing to work with their peers to come up with the best version possible while it's discussed in committee hearings.

Miami Marlins join efforts to restore defaced Jackie Robinson and Minnie Miñoso mural
MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Marlins are joining efforts to restore the defaced mural of baseball legends Jackie Robinson and Minnie Miñoso in Miami's Overtown neighborhood, which was marked with racist graffiti last week. City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King announced Wednesday that she along with the Marlins, Urgent, Inc., Omni Community Redevelopment Agency, Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency and other community activists will lead the restoration at Dorsey Park, where community leaders said a 7-year-old boy first discovered the vandalism last Sunday and asked his mother what the words and the Nazi symbols meant. 'This vile assault was an attack on our values, history, and community,' King said in a statement. 'We are actively working with law enforcement and the public to identify the individual(s) responsible for this intolerable act. However, even in the darkest hours, light finds its way to shine. This is a reminder and testament to the strength of our community, coming together to restore peace, beauty, and pride to this neighborhood.' Police were investigating the incident but have not made any arrests. City workers have since partially covered the murals of Robinson and Miñoso, an Afro-Cuban player, with wooden boards. The murals are along a fence at Dorsey Park, where Negro League teams once played baseball. The Marlins' home ballpark loanDepot park is just a few miles from the park. 'In light of the deeply troubling acts of vandalism at Dorsey Park, the Miami Marlins today proudly stand in solidarity with the City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King, and our local leaders in unequivocally condemning this hateful and racist act,' said Marlins owner Bruce Sherman. Chicago man accused of stealing $400K of fitness equipment, other goods
CHICAGO — A Chicago man was arrested last week for allegedly selling $400,000 worth of stolen fitness equipment and other goods. Isadore House, 57, is facing a Class 1 felony count of theft after he was taken into custody Friday. The investigation into House began in April after the Cook County Sheriff's Office learned of fitness equipment stolen in a cargo theft. The merchandise was allegedly being sold by House on Facebook Marketplace. Undercover officers then purchased multiple pieces of fitness equipment from him over the course of several weeks at a storefront in the 1800 block of West 87th Street in Chicago and at a storage unit in the 0-100 block of West 85th Street. String of armed robberies in Lakeview, Lincoln Park conducted by same group Officers conducted a search warrant at the locations of and approximately $400,000 in fitness equipment and other goods.
