Four bank officers among five held over RM11.3mil loan fraud

The Star22-05-2025

SANDAKAN: Five men, including four bank officers, have been remanded for seven days until next Wednesday (May 28) to assist in investigations into the approval of loans amounting to RM11.3mil using forged documents, between 2022 and 2024.
The remand order for all five men, aged between 30 and 50, was granted by magistrate Siti Aisyah Umar Baki, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
According to sources, all the suspects are believed to have conspired to solicit and accept bribes, totalling RM300,000, from company owners, as inducements to approve 39 financial loan applications, using forged supporting documents.
All suspects were detained between 2pm and 7pm on Wednesday, when they appeared to give statements at the Sandakan MACC office.
Meanwhile, Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a(A) of the MACC Act 2009. - Bernama

Civilians In Gaza Face Heavy Attacks While Seeking Food At Aid Centres: UN Agency

ISTANBUL, June 8 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported Saturday that civilians suffering from hunger in the Gaza Strip have come under heavy Israeli attacks while seeking food at aid distribution centres, reported Anadolu Ajansi (AA). UNRWA cited in a statement the testimony of a Palestinian survivor of an attack on a distribution centre in Rafah, which had been established by the US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) under the guise of humanitarian aid. The statement noted that starving Palestinians, in their desperate search for food, are being exposed to intense Israeli assaults at the so-called distribution centers, putting their lives at severe risk.
