The move, which put 750 people at risk of redundancy, comes as the industry continues to shift its focus to online and digital platforms.
Over recent years, Santander has seen a surge in their online banking, with over half of their new accounts being set up online.
Bank bosses also said that cash being sent by mobile banking has also gone up by 89 per cent.
They added that the amount of business done in brick-and-mortar branches has plummeted by 61 per cent, which has reduced the need for in-person services.
The following two branches in Scotland will be closing this week:
Peterhead - 16 June
Arbroath - 17 June
A statement on the Santander website reads: "We last did a major review of our branches in 2021.
"Since then, many of our customers are choosing to use Mobile, Online and Telephone Banking more, and branches less."
The vast majority of banking customers are moving online and don't need a physical branch as much as before.
But any closures can be an issue for others, particularly elderly people in rural areas who don't have access to the internet.
Popular bank with over 400 spots confirms it is shutting 18 branches in August – it follows 148 closures by rivals
However, if your local branch is set to close or has recently closed, there are other options.
Customers can carry out most basic banking tasks at their nearest Post Office.
However you won't be able to apply for a loan or open a new bank account.
You can find your nearest Post Office branch by using the locator tool on its website.

Featuring a facial serum, a cleansing soap and a night moisturiser, it's designed to both hydrate and cleanse your skin. The product includes Aloe Barbadensis leaf extract and sodium ascorbyl phosphate - which is said to 'brighten your complexion'. The Dr H set also contains extracts of green tea and tiare flower. However, shoppers won't be able to buy the set in-stores. Instead, customers will need to log onto Tesco's marketplace and order the product online. The set qualifies for free standard delivery, though faster options are available for an additional fee. The news comes after Tesco announced that it was considering axing a huge shopping feature in all of its stores. The supermarket said that it was planning to remove barcodes from its products, in a bid to make shopping easier for its customers. Barcodes would be replaced by QR codes, which are easier to scan and will enable shoppers to see additional information about the item. Tesco fans are set to love the latest items in stores for 25 per cent off when you use clubcard Around 20 per cent of Tesco's South Eastern stores will be included in the trial. Ahead of the trial, Isabela De Pedro, supply chain development and change director for Tesco, said: "It's certainly our intention to make sure the customers better understand the product. "You've got a real limit on the current packaging and there are so many regulatory things you have to put on there, that gets priority. "The QR opens up the door to do all of this stuff…to talk about origin, nutritionals, health, alternatives, locally sourced stuff."
