Judge to deliver final blow? Diddy's fate looms in New York trial
Judge Arun Subramanian presided over the criminal trial United States v. Combs, which started on 5 May 2025, in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs is facing five federal charges: one for conspiracy to commit racketeering, two for sex trafficking by force, and two for transporting individuals for prostitution.
He pleaded not guilty, and authorities are holding him at MDC Brooklyn under the inmate number 37452 054. Additionally, all twelve jurors (eight men and four women) are New York State residents.
Over six weeks, prosecutors called 34 witnesses, including Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura and an unknown woman, known only as 'Jane'.
Ventura, 38, said Combs forced her to participate in drug-fuelled group sexual activities involving urine and subjected her to constant physical and mental abuse. She also said that Combs threatened to send out sex videos to control her.
Brendan Paul, Sean Combs' assistant from late 2022 to March 2024, testified on 20 June 2025 after prosecutors granted him immunity.
Paul also said that he planned 'freak-offs', which he described as parties full of drugs and sex.
He said the terms 'Gucci bag active' and 'Wild King nights' were code words for drug and sex parties, respectively.
After six weeks and thirty-four witnesses, the prosecution will wrap up its case on 23 June 2025.
Combs Global employees and an expert witness will testify during Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defence, which is expected to last one to two days. However, Combs is not going to testify.
The judge has hinted that closing arguments could begin as early as 26 June 2025; it is anticipated that they will begin shortly after the defence is finished.
According to federal sentencing guidelines in the United States, Combs faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years.
If convicted of crimes such as sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, Combs could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The Mthatha High Court sentenced 39-year-old Noncedo Mqokro to 15 years in prison. She was convicted on two counts of murder and one count of housebreaking with intent to commit an offence. The court ordered her 15-year sentences for each murder, along with an eight-year sentence for housebreaking, to run concurrently. In her guilty plea, Mqokro admitted to fatally stabbing her boyfriend, the father of her child, and her distant aunt, whom she found in bed with him. The killings took place on the night of 19 May 2024, after Mqokro attended a traditional ceremony in her home village of Nondindwa, Mcothama, in the Centane district. She told the court she had been drinking alcohol and decided to visit her boyfriend at his home in the nearby village of Khabakazi. Upon arrival, he refused to let her in when she looked through a window. She said she saw him having sex with her distant aunt, who shared her mother's clan name. In a fit of rage, Mqokro forced the door open. Retrieved a dagger from a bucket where the boyfriend usually hid it, and attacked the pair. She could not recall how many times she stabbed them, but claimed they were still alive when she left. She later confessed the attack to the boyfriend's mother and handed herself over to police the next day, after learning the two had died from their injuries. During sentencing, the court took into account a pre-sentence report which revealed that Mqokro suffered from epilepsy and received a social grant due to her condition. She had also previously escaped an abusive marriage and bore scars from past abuse allegedly inflicted by the deceased boyfriend. State Advocate Loyiso Methuso acknowledged the tragic loss of life, particularly for the children of the deceased, but confirmed that Mqokro showed remorse and needed professional support. Her youngest daughter had reportedly blamed her for the father's death. Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Barry Madolo, welcomed the sentence. He urged individuals in abusive relationships to seek help through legal channels. 'This outcome should serve as a caution that no matter the provocation, those who commit violent crimes will face the consequences,' said Madolo. Soldiers arrested for murder of Hawks officer Frans Mathipa facing three counts of murder
The 12 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members accused of killing Hawks officer Lt-Col Frans Mathipa are facing three counts of murder. They are also facing several other charges, including two counts of kidnapping, making false statements under oath, obstructing the administration of justice, theft and fraud. The 12 soldiers appeared in the Randburg magistrate's court on Monday. The court ordered the media not to publish their names or pictures as an identity parade must still be conducted. The case was postponed to July 1 for a bail application and the soldiers remanded. The court heard that the matter will be transferred to the high court within the Gauteng jurisdiction. On Sunday, the Johannesburg-based Hawks' serious organised crime investigation team arrested two soldiers, aged 36 and 51, linked to the murder of Mathipa. During the operation, police also seized a vehicle belonging to the 36-year-old suspect. The vehicle is alleged to have been used in the kidnapping of two male foreign nationals at a mall in Midrand on December 29 2022. On Monday, 10 more soldiers were arrested after they handed themselves over to the Hawks investigating officers in Johannesburg. Mathipa was fatally shot while driving on the N1 highway near Hammanskraal on August 6 2023. After being shot his vehicle veered out of control and landed in a ditch. Mathipa, who was attached to the Hawks' crimes against the state section within the serious organised crime investigation unit in Gauteng, was on duty conducting an investigation at the time of his death. The Sunday Times reported he had been investigating the abduction of alleged Isis leader Abdella Abadiga from the Mall of Africa in Johannesburg and was looking into suspicions that South African military special forces were involved. Hawks spokesperson Lt-Col Christopher Singo said the accused are also linked to a case involving the kidnapping of two foreign nationals in December 2022. 'At this moment, we cannot reveal their identity as per the court instructions. An identity parade has to be conducted. Their names and identities will only be revealed after we are done with the identity parade,' he said. He added that Mathipa was responsible for investigating high-profile cases. 'Some of those cases involved the accused who are appearing in court, but I cannot get into the details of those cases.'

AfroSoul hit by scammers, warn fans to be vigilant
