MACC detains two individuals for submitting false particulars in RM8.1 mln fraud
PUTRAJAYA: Two individuals have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of submitting false particulars amounting to approximately RM8.1 million, involving the provision of machinery rental services, facilities, and waste disposal.
According to sources, a former company owner and a former Chief Financial Officer, both in their 40s to 50s, were arrested around 6:30 pm yesterday when they arrived to give their statements at the MACC Headquarters here.
'Both suspects are believed to be involved in corruption and money laundering for the provision of machinery and facility rental services between 2019 and 2021.
'Additionally, the investigation also focuses on claims for waste disposal services that occurred from January to October 2022, as well as the receipt of bribe money,' the source said.
The source added that MACC's investigation is also identifying other criminal offences under the Penal Code and money laundering activities.
Through 'Op Flora,' conducted by MACC's Special Operations Division (BOK) at 11 premises around the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan yesterday, MACC has frozen 76 bank accounts, comprising individual and company accounts, totaling approximately RM1.68 million.
The source informed that both individuals are currently remanded for one day after Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin allowed the MACC's application at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court.
Meanwhile, MACC Special Operations Division Senior Director, Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

The funds were allegedly transferred to multiple entities, including proxy companies and the personal account of the Tan Sri's wife, and used to acquire real estate, luxury vehicles and goods, as well as fund gambling activities. MACC has seized individual bank accounts totalling RM4.5 million, eight company accounts totalling RM33 million, a luxury condominium and a plot of land valued at RM24.5 million, as well as nine vehicles valued at RM7.6 million in its probe. The anti-graft agency had also seized luxury watches valued at about RM25 million, designer handbags valued at RM3 million, jewellery and diamonds worth RM6 million, four horses valued at RM400,000, and premium alcoholic beverages worth RM3 million.

Klang boat incident: Victims believed not wearing life jackets
KLANG: All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan here yesterday were believed not to be wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. He said the absence of life jackets had made the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remaining two missing victims among the six people on board more difficult. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, which are very useful during emergencies like this capsized boat incident, in addition to having swimming skills,' he said at a press conference at the search site in Tanjung Harapan today. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code,' he said. In the incident at about 5 pm, three individuals including a child died, one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased victims were Darren Gan, 3; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama.
