Gen Z Asked What's 'Cringe' About Millennials—Not Prepared for Response

A viral video has left people in stitches after a 32-year-old shared the list of things her Gen Z sister said are "cringe" for Millennials.
"I asked my sister to tell me all the things that are cringey that we Millennials do," Lea, who didn't give her surname, told Newsweek. "Because I started getting some comments on my videos that I was cringey and 'Millennial core'. I had no idea what that meant. I thought I was young and cool, so I had to find out more."
Millennials are defined as those born between 1981 and 1996, while Gen Z fall into the years 1997 to 2012, while Gen Alpha is the cohort born up until 2025.
Lea soon found her sister didn't hold back—and her responses left both her and the internet stunned. From fashion choices like tucking in tops, to online habits like posting polished videos and zooming in, the generational divide quickly became clear. Even the signature Millennial "peace sign and pout" and the classic "Millennial pause" before speaking in videos made the list.

"I can't believe we are not tucking in our clothes!" Lea said. "The most shocking one is how clubbing culture has changed—I go more into this in my other videos but it's so interesting how both Covid and technology have played such a huge part in shifting culture; especially in drinking culture."
Other habits called out included pulling ugly faces on purpose, using hashtags like "Throwback Thursday" and "hashtag blessed," and dressing up to go to clubs—which Gen Z apparently finds "cringe." Lea, from the U.K., says she was especially surprised to learn that Gen Z often opts for trainers and jeans instead of getting glammed up for a night out.
"I wanted to share this on TikTok because it's absolutely fascinating and I knew other Millennials would be as shocked and intrigued as I was," she said. "I'm blown away by the reaction—thousands of comments from both Millennials and Gen Z-ers sharing their experiences and views, I love it. I am now doing more videos on changes in our culture."
Five Millennial Things Gen Z Say Are "Cringe" Fashion: Tucking in clothes, like the classic "French tuck" is a big no in the Gen Z world. Face: Pulling ugly faces on purpose, peace signs and pouts are out, with Gen Z finding them particularly "cringe." Videos: Well-edited videos, zooming, and the so-called "Millennial pause" are all tell-tale signs of the being a Millennial. Sayings: Things like "throwback Thursday," "living my best life" and being #blessed are all cringe according to Gen Z. The club: When it comes to the club, Gen Z do things differently. The attire is strictly sneakers and jeans, while dancing with your arms above your head is "embarrassing" too.
With over 790,000 views and more than 1,800 comments, on Lea's TikTok page, @laughinglea, since being posted last week, people shared their own thoughts on the divide.
"I can honestly say I was never bothered by other generations when I was of Gen Z age. They're weirdly obsessed with us," said @LauraK11.
While another viewer @val said: "So basically no effort, no having fun, no making jokes. Got it."
"Gen Z are mini boomers. They failed the vibe test. Their opinions have been voided," said @Mick_T.
But Gen Z also got involved, with some even sharing their apologies for others in their cohort. @Caroline said: "As a Gen Z, I would just like to apologize for all the judgy and negative people in our generation. I promise we're not all like this. Also tucking in looks way better, I don't care what anyone says."

Fashion is just one area where Millennials and Gen Z differ, with Pew Research noting how most Millennials grew up against the backdrop of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as remembering 9/11, while their youth was shaped by the 2008 recession.
The site said: "...many of Millennials' life choices, future earnings and entrance to adulthood have been shaped by this recession in a way that may not be the case for their younger counterparts. The long-term effects of this "slow start" for Millennials will be a factor in American society for decades."
For most Gen Z, technology has been a ubiquitous force in their lives, unlike any generation that preceded them.
"The iPhone launched in 2007, when the oldest Gen Zers were 10. By the time they were in their teens, the primary means by which young Americans connected with the web was through mobile devices, WiFi and high-bandwidth cellular service. Social media, constant connectivity and on-demand entertainment and communication are innovations
"Millennials adapted to as they came of age. For those born after 1996, these are largely assumed," Pew Research added.

Dog's 'Soulmate' Dies—What She Does Next Breaks Owner's Heart

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Animal lovers' hearts have broken after seeing how a dog reacted after losing her beloved sibling. Mariah, who posts to TikTok under the username @mariahandgigi, is the owner of Belgian Malinois mix Gigi, and until recently, also had Shih Tzu, Rocky. Mariah lost senior dog Rocky late in 2024 at age 12, having had him since childhood, and regularly posts videos of him in remembrance—playing, napping, on walks, and playing with his sister, Gigi. One video, shared May 11, racked up more than half a million views as viewers' hearts broke at what it showed. At first, the clip showed Rocky and Gigi hanging out together, Gigi relaxing and lying quietly, while Rocky posed on his back and wiggled around, kicking his legs, and a second short clip taken at a different time showed the two dogs in the same position. But the two final videos showed Gigi, this time on her own, Rocky having passed on. And she lies on her back, rolling and wiggling around, her legs in the air—just like Rocky used to do. Mariah wrote over the video: "Soulmated so hard your sister absorbed your little quirks as soon as you left," and added in the caption: "We miss our boy." TikTok users flocked to the video, one writing: "This one's for you, man," and another suggesting Gigi "probably was coping too." "Someone has to carry on the tradition," another said, as one emotional viewer admitted: "I am sobbing. How absolutely beautiful, their unconditional love is never gone, just a little bit further away till you and your baby reunite again." And as one wrote: "She wanted to make sure you knew he was still there being silly." Gigi and Rocky the Shih Tzu, rolling on his back. Gigi and Rocky the Shih Tzu, rolling on his back. TikTok @mariahandgigi Dogs can have many reactions to another pet in the household dying, and could become clingy, anxious or even depressed, according to Dogs Trust. Owners can help their surviving pet by keeping a close eye on their pet to see how they are coping, including by a pet camera while they're alone in the house. Take time before removing reminders of the other animal—such as beds and blankets—and don't rush into getting another dog. Going on plenty of walks and sticking to the dog's normal routine can all assist in helping your dog cope with a loss. Newsweek has contacted @mariahandgigi via TikTok for comment on this story. Jennifer Lopez just debuted a black pixie haircut – and the punk rock transformation has us shook

In a career that spans over three decades, Jennifer Lopez has yet to do anything by halves; I'm talking sales of over 55 million records worldwide, two Grammy award nominations, and many, many transformative fashion and beauty looks, to name a few outstanding accomplishments. Most recently, however, the singer-meets dancer-meets actor-meets business mogul (yep, she's a woman of many talents) has, arguably, topped said accomplishments by casually whipping up four different haircuts and styles in just under two minutes. Like I said, she's never one to do things by halves... Earlier this week [June 5, 2025], Jennifer shared the official teaser for Kiss Of The Spider Woman, an upcoming movie in which she stars, directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon. In the trailer, JLo plays the character Ingrid Luna, who undergoes a number of haircuts, resulting in four shockingly good makeovers. The one that stands out? Why the dramatic black pixie cut (albeit a wig), of course! The punky, head-hugging cut and gothic raven colour couldn't be further from her trademark look. And IMO, it's giving JoJo Siwa's Karma look a run for its money... IYKYK. But if one transformation wasn't enough, why not indulge in three more of Ingrid/Jennifer's 'dos, including a very Marilyn Monroe bouncy blonde bob. She's a hair chameleon if we ever did see one! It's official! MAFSAU's Billy and Awhina confirm relationship - all the clues you missed they were together

It's finally happened, after months of keeping us in suspense and claiming they were "just friends" Married at First Sight Australia's Billy Belcher and Awhina Rutene have officially confirmed their relationship. The pair who met on the recent season of the Nine series, took to Instagram and shared a joint post of them together. In the carousel of images Awhina is seen holding her phone and posing in front of a mirror while Billy stands with his back to the camera and has his arm wrapped around Awhina's waist. They then shared a number of date images and captioned the post: "I'll keep this one 🤭". Billy then commented underneath the origianl post, thanking followers for their support on the relationship, saying: "Me and @_awhinarutene can't thank you all enough love you guys 🙏🏼❤️." The couple met during filming for Married at First Sight Australia season 12 in which they were both married to different people. Awhina was paired with Adrian and Billy with Sierah, however both their marriages failed and since then the pair have been heavily rumoured to be dating. They've always denied there was something romantic between them, but if you look back over the last few months, there's been plenty to suggest they've been together this whole time. Take a look at all these clues. While Married at First Sight Australia was airing both here in the UK and in Australia, Billy and Awhina were papped hanging out together in the Perth, where they're both from. In a series of photos the pair were seen walking together with their arms around each other. At the time we didn't know if their marriages had made it but this was essentially confirmation it was over for Billy and Sierah and Awhina and Adrian. Despite the cosy looking pap pictures Awhina went onto deny there was anything romantic going on between the pair, telling Nine: "Look, Billy and I are just friends! We're very close. I kind of wanted this chapter closed before I start dating again. "I've been on the experiment to find a partner, which is really still my goal. I want to grow my family. I just I needed this chapter closed so that I could actually do it properly, and I didn't want to start anything off on the wrong foot." Following the series finishing airing in Australia, Awhina and Billy shared a number of pictures and TikToks together at a horse racing event in Perth. In one Instagram post Billy had his arm around Awhina and she was seen looking up at him lovingly. They also shared a TikTok together referencing the time their exes Sierah and Adrian went for dinner together, captioning it: "Our exes ate a plate of meat, but who really ate?" Though the show finished in Australia in April, at the end of May Billy shared a TikTok of the pair having a joint watch party to "Celebrating our s**t shows of a marriage". In the video they're seen fizzing up champagne bottles and releasing them over a pool and laughing together. Throughout her time on Married at First Sight Australia Awhina made it clear how important her son was to her. She didn't introduce Adrian to him at any point. However, Billy has met her son and at the end of May he shared a TikTok of himself with Awhina and her son doing a dance together and captioned it: "And then there was three 🔐." If that's not a soft launch we don't know what is. A few days later Awhina then shared a different video of her son talking animatedly to Billy at a restaurant. In the clip the pair are seen conversing happily and Awhina captioned the sweet video: "I almost forgot this was the whole point." The comment section was flooded with people sharing their happiness for Awhina and she took her time to respond to many people. During this one person had commented: "Whether friends or more, Billy will be such a positive role model. Knew him growing up as a kid here in the UK (my son is same age) & Billy's mum & stepdad are the best humans & Billy is the result of pure love & nurturing, they gave him safety & stability 🙏🏼💞." Awhina then replied to the sweet comment, expressing her love for Billy's family, saying: "I love Billy's parents they're amazing 🫶🏽." Ok we could not be more obsessed with this new MAFS couple. Married at First Sight Australia is available to catchup on Channel 4
