Mets place A.J. Minter on IL, Ronny Mauricio beginning rehab assignment
The Mets announced on Sunday morning that left-hander reliever A.J. Minter has been placed on the 15-day IL with a left lat strain.
In a corresponding move, right-hander José Ureña has been called up from Triple-A Syracuse.

Minter entered Saturday's win over the Nationals in the eighth inning, but threw just nine pitches before exiting with the training staff. While the initial diagnosis was triceps tightness, further testing showed the injury to be a lat strain.
"I can't remember what pitch it was, but about two pitches or a pitch before you can see me move my tricep a little bit, it tightened up," Minter said on Saturday. "I'm just glad it wasn't my elbow. That's what I was happy about. We're probably looking at an IL stint. Come back, get this thing fixed and continue to help the team."
Coming off offseason hip surgery, Minter has been outstanding for the Mets, pitching to a 1.64 ERA in 13 games.
Ureña, 33, has been well-traveled in his major league career, as the Mets will become his seventh team he's pitched for, including six seasons with the Miami Marlins. Overall, Ureña has a career 4.76 ERA in 232 career games.
Ronny Mauricio's rehab assignment begins
The Mets also announced that infielder Ronny Mauricio is beginning a rehab assignment with Low-A St. Lucie.
Mauricio, the No. 8 prospect in the Mets' system according to Joe DeMayo, initially tore his ACL playing Winter Ball after the 2023 season, and a second procedure was needed to remove scar tissue last August. Not long after that second surgery, Mauricio dealt with inflammation that stalled his recovery a bit, and he was not able to get into a game during spring training or the first few weeks of the regular season.

Alex Cora optimistic about the return of Wilyer Abreu next week
'This is what we thought it was going to be [timeline-wise],' said Cora, who referenced Abreu participating in weight-room activities. 'We talked to him [Monday], no chance we were going to play shorthanded for three or four days. This is the best move for him and obviously the roster.' When they realized Monday afternoon Abreu needed more than a day or two of recovery, they opted to play it safe and put him on the IL, prompting the call-up of Anthony, regarded as the top prospect in baseball. He has been on the IL since June 1, his second arm injury in 11 months. 'It's slower than we expected, let's put it that way,' Cora said. 'He hasn't thrown. He hasn't reacted to treatment the way we expected. It's a slow process.' Slaten had served as a key late-inning option for Cora, who has had to lean more heavily on others in Slaten's absence. 'It's a big [loss],' Cora said. 'Hopefully this is something we can figure out in the upcoming days and get him going. Right now, it doesn't seem like it's going to be soon.' Numbers game Anthony, who wore No. 48 in his debut Monday, switched to No. 19 on Tuesday. He said clubhouse manager Tom McLaughlin gave it to him because he had worn that number in Triple A. Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez placed on paternity list
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez was placed on the paternity list Tuesday before New York opened a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. Luis Torrens was set to start in place of Alvarez, who is batting .255 with two home runs, 10 RBIs and a .676 OPS in 29 games. He was activated April 25 after beginning the season on the injured list with a hamate fracture in his left hand. The 23-year-old Alvarez is coming off one of his best games of the year Sunday at Coors Field, where he went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and a 450-foot homer to straightaway center field in a 13-5 victory over the major league-worst Colorado Rockies. Third-string catcher Hayden Senger was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill Alvarez's roster spot. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Alvarez was still at the hospital Tuesday afternoon waiting for the birth of his child, so the team wasn't sure when he'll return to the lineup. New York also added right-hander Justin Garza to the bullpen after selecting his contract Monday from Syracuse. Garza was acquired Saturday from the San Francisco Giants for cash. He was looking to make his first major league appearance since July 2023 with Boston against the Mets. The 5-foot-10 Garza was 1-2 with a 6.11 ERA and six saves in 19 relief appearances for Triple-A Sacramento this season. He struck out 20 and walked six in 17 2/3 innings. 'Good arm, throws strikes,' Mendoza said. 'Mid-to-upper 90s (mph) fastball. He's got a cutter. Competes. So, I'm interested to watch him pitch.' Left-hander Brandon Waddell was optioned to Syracuse after Sunday's game. New York also signed outfielder Travis Jankowski to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A. A strong defender, Jankowski had a .575 OPS in 21 games combined with the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays this season. He played 43 games for the Mets in 2022.
