CATS to shut down light rail, Gold Line for maintenance in late April
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The light rail and streetcar lines will be temporarily closed for regular maintenance later this month.
The Charlotte Area Transit System announced that they will suspend Blue Line and Gold Line service from 2 a.m. Saturday, April 26, to 4 a.m. Monday, April 28. The rail lines will resume at 5 a.m. on April 28.
CATS leaders set to wrap up public meetings in the west corridor
CATS has performed this maintenance in June in recent years. The agency says rail shutdowns are a common practice within the transit industry and are essential for maintaining the quality and safety of its rail alignments.
During this period, bus bridges will replace rail service. Information boards at stations will direct riders to bus bridge stops, which will be marked with Connector signs. Buses will also display 'Bus Bridge' for easy identification.
For detailed bus bridge locations, visit RideTransit.org. Learn more about CATS' maintenance goals here.

New bus line launches in Downtown Fort Worth, replacing Molly the Trolley
A new bus line is launching in Fort Worth, helping visitors and residents alike get around Cowtown. The Blue Line is replacing Molly the Trolley, which will officially end its services on June 7, according to Trinity Metro. The Blue Line will begin its service the following day, June 8. "Much like the Orange Line, Trinity Metro's Blue Line will provide a necessary connection for residents and tourists to some of Fort Worth's iconic destinations," said Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker. "The color-coded lines are very appealing for riders and the overall look raises the bar for an outstanding transit experience." The Blue Line will connect downtown shops, dining and hotels and have stops near the Fort Worth Convention Center, Fort Worth Water Gardens and Sundance Square. The free service will be available daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with stops every seven minutes. "Offering rides every 7 minutes is very convenient and a great incentive for riders to hop on board," said Bob Jameson, president and CEO of Visit Fort Worth. "The complimentary bus route supports a growing convention business in our downtown and is one more example of the welcome extended to our visitors."

Mercy Ships is a global Christian nonprofit organization that delivers healthcare to communities in medical deserts by operating fully volunteer staffed hospital ships that provide free, life-changing surgeries and medical care. Charlotte nonprofit gives families furniture to 'make their house into a home' This summer, the trio will spend two weeks aboard a floating hospital ship in Madagascar, the Africa Mercy, shadowing medical professionals, assisting in transformative surgeries, and witnessing care being delivered to those who would otherwise go untreated. All three are from North Carolina: Gutierrez, Gastonia; Harris, Charlotte, Dike, Wake Forest. But this once-in-a-lifetime experience comes with a challenge. Gutierrez, Dike and Harris must raise funds to cover their travel and participation costs. They've each launched a GoFundMe campaign to make this mission possible.
