Christine Baranski has revealed that her 'Mamma Mia!' co-star Stellan Skarsgård wasn't particularly fond of his time working on the 2008 film.
Based on the music of ABBA, the initial film was set on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi. It followed a bride, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), who secretly invited three men to the wedding who might be her father: Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Skarsgård) and Harry (Colin Firth).

Meryl Streep played Sophie's mother, Donna, while Baranski played Tanya, a wealthy divorcée and Donna's longtime friend.
Recalling the experience, Baranski revealed that Skarsgård struggled getting into the dancing spirit — specifically at the end of the film when the cast dances to Abba's 1976 hit track, 'Dancing Queen.'

'I don't think he'll mind my saying he hated having to do the dance stuff,' Baranski, 73, said on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.'
The 'Andor' star revealed that Brosnan, for his part, 'was game.'

'[He would] skip down the hill multiple times,' she said of the James Bond alum, adding that Firth 'meant all of his moves ironically.'

'When we finally went down the hill in 'Dancing Queen' and landed on the dock, the camera would move around and it usually would avoid Stellan,' Baranski added.
Still, the film went on to become a box office success that later birthed the second 'Mamma Mia!' movie, 2018's 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.'

The sequel — which grossed over $400 million at the global box office on a $75 million budget — was directed by Ol Parker, who made it clear to the cast that dancing was non-negotiable.
'You have got to do the moves now — you have simply got to do the moves,' he said to the actors ahead of their close-up shots.
As a result, Skarsgård would 'let out a string of expletives' in response, Baranski said.
'It's as if l had asked him to read Arabic poetry while jumping rope. He was like 'I can't do that,'' she added.
In August 2024, Baranski revealed that a third film was in the works.
5 The initial films also stars Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried and Julie Walters, among others.

'I was in London with [producer] Judy Kramer at our favorite watering hole, [and] she is planning 'Mamma Mia 3.' She gave me the narrative plot line of how it's going to happen,' she told the Hollywood Reporter.
'The Gilded Age' star explained that Kramer was the type of producer who 'makes things happen' instead of saying that she '[wishes] it could happen.'

Richard O'Brien reveals this famous rocker tried to buy ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show' film rights

Owned by Jagger. In the new documentary 'Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror,' creator Richard O'Brien revealed that Mick Jagger and his team tried to buy the film rights to 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' after the stage show made its US debut in 1974. But director Jim Sharman advised that they shouldn't go for Jagger's deal, and with producer Lou Adler's help, they created the film without a big name attached. 8 Richard O'Brien, Tim Curry and Patricia Quinn a lobby card from 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show.' Getty Images 'One of the great things about this is that we were a fringe theater event, and we were allowed to make a movie,' O'Brien, 83, said in the doc, according to People. 'Not only that, but Jim was allowed to direct it. Not only that, but Brian Thompson was allowed to be the artistic director. Not only that, but Tim [Curry] was allowed to play the lead role,' the famous producer continued. 'That's very rare, especially when it's America and a Hollywood matter.' 8 Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Jonathan Adams and Peter Hinwood on a lobby card from 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show.' [There were] three people who wanted to play [Dr. Frank-N-Furter] — Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, and of course, David Bowie,' Quinn, 81, recalled. '[They said] no Mick Jaggers, no Bowies, I'm having the original cast,' she added. 8 Mick Jagger with Sue Mengers at a stage production of 'The Rocky Horror Show' in Los Angeles. They agreed to present their own funds if the film didn't make that amount, per People. 'From the beginning, I had the feeling it was an event and something very, very special by the cast and the music, immediately,' Adler recalled of the original stage production, which premiered in London in 1973. 8 Richard O'Brien at the Oxford Union in March 2004. 'Sort of like cabaret, that you could go beyond sitting in a theater but you could enjoy the whole experience of it. And in the back of my mind, I just envisioned it as a film pretty much from the beginning,' Adler shared. 8 Lou Adler at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony in 2006. © Mark Savage/Corbis He continued, 'The casting for the Roxy, we had some very, very talented people, most of who were local actors. I thought pretty much I couldn't duplicate Tim Curry. That was somebody we had to bring over, and that went for Richard also. But not only the fact that you're getting the actor that was in it, you're getting the creator.' 8 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' stars Richard O'Brien, Tim Curry and Patricia Quinn. Jean Smart Reveals Shocking Wardrobe Mistake She Made While Meeting Son's College Counselor: 'Can't Imagine What He Thought'

During a June 2 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jean Smart recalled a fashion faux pas that she made while meeting with her son's college counselor She said that she wore a pair of pants, which she later realized featured embroidered images of "a naked woman" and a "bong" Smart shares two sons with her late husband Richard Gilliland — Connor, 35, and Forrest, 16Jean Smart accidentally made a funny fashion statement when she met with her son's college counselor. During a Monday, June 2, appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 73-year-old Hacks star opened up about making a bit of a faux pas when she got dressed for the meeting, which all centered around her pants. "I bought this pair of white pants the other day, and they had kind of this green, kind of embroidered vine or something. I thought they were kind of pretty and really comfy," she told Stephen Colbert. Her story continued: "I wore them to my son's school to meet the college counselor and later, I really looked at them, and I went, 'Oh. That's a marijuana plant with a naked woman on one leg. And on the other thigh was a bong.' " "I can't imagine what he thought," Smart admitted with a laugh, with Colbert replying that he probably thought she was a "cool mom." Although she didn't specify, it seems likely that she was referring to her younger son Forrest, who she adopted with late husband Richard Gilliland in May 2009. Smart and Richard are also parents to Connor, who was born in 1989. Richard died at the age of 71 in March 2021, and Smart has been parenting her sons on her own since. Speaking to PEOPLE in 2022, she described her experience as "the hardest thing [she's] ever done." However, she has always been quick to praise her sons, telling PEOPLE that "they take very good care of [her]" in September 2023. "My oldest son lives with us right now. He's been helping me a lot since we lost his dad, and so it's been very nice to have him around," she said. "I don't know how single working mothers do it. I really truly don't!" Speaking to Glamour in 2024, she also recalled adopted Forrest, saying that she and her husband "were just so besotted" the moment that they got to hold him. 'My youngest is just an amazing person," she gushed. At the 2022 Critics Choice Awards, he stressed how much Smart deserved to take home awards. "She's working like 13, 16 hours a day, every Monday through Friday," he said about his mom. "The one time she got a day off since December, she decided to spend it with me." He continued, saying, "She works really hard for, like, everything. So I think it's good. I'm glad she's nominated because I like these award shows." That year, she took home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on Hacks. Read the original article on People
