C-SPAN delivered a prompt to center the documentary around. The prompt was 'Your Message to the President: What issue is most important to you or your community?'
Mauro responded with her documentary, 'My Message to the President: A Story of Unity and Advocacy.' She produced the documentary with the help of a mentor and educator at her school, Jason Burchard, who was also recognized by C-SPAN for his advisory role in the documentary's creation.
C-SPAN said it received 1,700 documentaries from 3,500 students across 42 states and Washington D.C. The most covered topics included:
Climate, environment and land use — 11%
K-12 education policies and the cost of college — 10%
Health care and mental health — 10%
Gun violence, school safety, and firearm policies — 9%
Inflation, taxes, government spending and the economy — 9%
'Congratulations to all of the incredibly talented young students who won awards in this year's competition! Through in-depth research and interviews with an array of topical and technical experts, you have crafted short stories that capture issues of wide public interest and importance,' said C-SPAN's Director of Education Relations Craig McAndrew. 'Your documentaries set a very high bar for future StudentCam filmmakers, and you should be proud knowing your work will inspire your peers and foster thoughtful consideration from all audiences. We can't wait to see what you do next!'
C-SPAN awarded grand-prize and first-prize winners, 16 second prize winners, 32 third prize winners and 97 honorable mentions. The prizes were distributed in amounts of $1,500, $750 and $250. C-SPAN said the StudentCam competition has awarded over $1.6 million in prizes since 2004.

During the competition, the United States was divided into three regions: the east, central and west regions where high schoolers would compete against each other at a regional level. Middle schoolers were judged on a national basis. The grand-prize winner was selected from any of the grades, 6th-12th, at a national level.

Ticker: ESPN's New York Shows Are on the Move

Top of the Ticker: ESPN is joining Good Morning America and ABC News' other programming at Disney's 7 Hudson Square HQ in Manhattan. The Disney-owned sports network is moving its New York-based shows from their perch at Seaport Studios, where they've been since 2018. Get Up will be the first show to air out of the new space on June 9, followed by First Take on June 23, alongside ESPN Radio's signature morning show UnSportsmanLike. New Promo: Meanwhile, GMA has debuted a new promo campaign that marks the start of its 50th anniversary celebrations. Titled 'Coming Home,' the promo features co-anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan-as well as the show's extended family-visiting their respective hometowns. The promo could also be viewed as an indirect nod to the show's move from Times Square to its new home at 7 Hudson Square sometime this summer. Pride Celebrations: Speaking of ABC News, the network has announced programming initiatives to celebrate Pride Month. Airing across all dayparts and properties, coverage will feature reporting, interviews, and features highlighting people, stories, and issues important to the LGBTQ+ community. C-Span: C-SPAN debuted a refreshed on-air graphics look across its networks this week. 'Our new look was designed in-house with internal feedback as well as a review of comments from viewers over the years,' executive producer Paul Brown said in a statement provided to TVNewser. 'One of our primary goals was to enhance brand consistency by creating a unified look that eventually will run across all our platforms.' Brown also noted that C-SPAN's last major graphics occurred back in 2018. Nintendo Switch 2: Early review thoughts from our first days with the gaming system

Now that most of us have managed to acquire our Switch 2, it's time to get playing. I mean, testing. The Nintendo Switch 2 became available in stores yesterday and started shipping out to those who got their pre-orders in. Those who pre-ordered via Walmart appeared to have been the luckiest, not only receiving their units first thing in the morning but also getting bonus snacks and drinks. Many of us who didn't get to pre-order one in April were pleasantly surprised that we were able to pick up the product in physical retail stores. While we've already gotten a couple of detailed hands-on opportunities for the Switch 2, this being day 2 means we now have unfettered access to the new $449 Nintendo portable console with its latest release software installed. The liveblog below is a reverse chronological collection of our thoughts, but here's a quick summary of where we left things yesterday: "We're nearing the end of the day, and here's a quick breakdown of where things stand and what we've covered in this liveblog. For those looking to acquire a Switch 2 on launch day, it seems like most people making trips to retail stores were largely successful, and stock seems to be plentiful, even without pre-orders. Those who are looking for supply online are having a tougher time, while members of our team who pre-ordered have had to wait a lot longer for their devices to show up. Our Aaron Souppouris has received his pre-ordered... controller. But his Switch 2 remains en route and has yet to show up at his doorstep. As for our review impressions so far — our senior reviewer Sam Rutherford is hard at work putting our official full review together, but he's been updating this liveblog with his evaluations today. He noted that, based on his lightmeter's readings, the Switch 2's display goes up to 450 nits with ambient brightness enabled, and tops out at 400 nits without. It's comparatively dim for a device with HDR, but the numbers can get higher depending on the game. Sam also hasn't found the device to run too hot so far and that's not just because of the new dock's built-in fan. To him the dock is sleeker and feels a bit more substantial than before. He found it odd that the dock has just three USB ports instead of four on the original Switch's dock, but the new console has one more socket, which sort of balances things out. Sam pointed out that the dock only has a single USB-C port, though, and that's reserved for power. With the remaining two ports on the dock being USB-A, you may need adapters to plug in your USB-C accessories, like the official Switch 2 camera, for instance. You could plug it directly into the Switch 2, but that's not ideal for people who frequently dock and undock their systems." If you prefer to catch up by watching a video, check out our Engadget Podcast livestream on YouTube, where Sam Rutherford and Devindra Hardawar shared their impressions and took questions from our live audience. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. We've already written plenty about the Switch 2, and you can check out our earlier coverage to catch up on all the relevant details so far: And now — our liveblog of our second day with the Switch 2. Hello everyone! Thanks for joining us today as we put together our collective thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2 while our full review is under way. We were eager to get our impressions out to you, and though our senior reviewer Sam Rutherford will handle the complete review, many members of the Engadget team will contribute to this review-in-progress to offer various perspectives.

Lawmakers sit back to watch Trump-Musk blowup drama

Members of Congress are sitting back and watching the show. The bromance that's captivated Washington for months — President Trump and Elon Musk — blew up on Thursday, a breakup between the world's most powerful man and richest person that is leaving the White House's legislative agenda hanging in the balance. The implosion played out in public: Trump — in his first remarks since Musk trashed the 'big, beautiful bill' as 'a disgusting abomination' — said 'Elon and I had a great relationship; I don't know if we will anymore' and suggested his opposition was rooted in the legislation's elimination of incentives for electric vehicles. Musk called that statement 'false.' And it unraveled from there. Musk went on a tirade against Trump on X, the social platform he owns, arguing Republicans would not have won elections in November without his help, backing Trump's impeachment, and claiming that the president is included in the Epstein files — which is the reason they have not been released in full. Trump, meanwhile, took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to call Musk 'crazy' and threaten to terminate his government subsidies and contracts. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill, meanwhile, are basking in watching the breakup play out on the big screen. Some are offering solutions for working through the drama. Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) shared a Spotify playlist named 'the ultimate breakup playlist' on X, writing 'Thought you could use this @realDonaldTrump.' 'Break ups are really hard but I sure do love watching the one between … Trump and Musk play out publicly,' she added in a separate post. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), meanwhile, is looking to take the drama from C-SPAN to Bravo: The Florida Democrat made a public plea to Andy Cohen to host a reunion episode for 'The Real Housewives of the West Wing,' featuring Trump, Musk and a host of other top administration officials. 'So @Andy and @BravoTV Can you produce the Reunion show?' he wrote on X. 'Only @Andy can solve this.' The famed reality television guru, for his part, is in: 'LET ME HOST THE REUNION!' Cohen wrote on X, with an American flag emoji. The unsolicited offering of ideas was not limited to Democrats. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), who was one of two Republicans to vote against the megabill last month — and praised Musk's criticism of the legislation — wrote on X, 'I would love to host a private dinner among friends,' inviting Trump, Musk, Vice President Vance, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), the other GOP 'no' vote. 'Tomorrow night, maybe?' he quipped. The menu is already set — 'probably some red meat,' Davidson later told reporters — and at least one guest is in, under one condition. 'As long as he takes all the sharp silverware off the table I'll be there,' Massie said. 'We need sporks.' Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) summed up the sentiment among several lawmakers with a short post in response to Musk's claim about the GOP's election victories featuring just the popcorn emoji. In a separate post, he channeled Taylor Swift: 'Siri, play 'Bad Blood.'' The rift between Trump and Musk had been highly anticipated on Capitol Hill, with onlookers inside Washington privately predicting how long the two influential individuals and their egos would be able to work together. The break began last week when Musk said he was 'disappointed' by the bill; it heated up on Monday — fresh off his White House tenure — when he called the measure 'a disgusting abomination;' and it boiled over on Thursday, when the political attacks on the legislation took a personal turn to Trump. For some, the alliance lasted longer than anticipated. 'They got along longer than I expected!' said one House Republican. The feud, however, is coming at an inopportune moment for Republicans: Party leaders are still pushing to approve their sprawling tax cut and spending package by July 4, less than a month away, and the heated back-and-forth is emerging as a distraction from that effort. Some lawmakers are trying to refocus the conversation. 'Some are focused on the big beautiful brawl — but every one in Congress should be focused on making the Big Beautiful Bill better,' Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), who is pushing for changes to the bill, wrote on X. Other members, meanwhile, opted to stay on the sidelines of the heated battle, leaving it to Trump and Musk. 'Ma'am, I have a rule,' Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) told CNN. 'I never get between a dog and a fire hydrant.' 'I read a chapter in Proverbs everyday and King Solomon advised staying out of other people's arguments,' Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) echoed on X. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
