Ex-Man Utd player sentenced over high-speed crash
Former Manchester United footballer Brandon Williams has received a suspended jail sentence for dangerous driving after he reached almost 100mph (161kmh) before crashing.
Williams, 24, was spotted driving in an erratic manner in an Audi A3 on the A34 near Handforth, Cheshire, on 20 August 2023.
His vehicle then collided with a Ford Fiesta before crashing into the central reservation. Chester Crown Court heard he was seen with a balloon at his mouth.
Williams admitted dangerous driving and driving without insurance and was sentenced to a 14-month jail term, suspended for two years.
Recorder Eric Lamb also banned the footballer, who was on loan at Ipswich Town at the time, from driving for three years and ordered him to complete 180 hours of unpaid work as part of a community order.
Last June, Manchester United announced Williams would leave the club at the end of his contract.
The full-back, who was contracted to Manchester United at the time, was with a female passenger and was driving at up to 99mph in a 70mph zone.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the woman was seen filming at one point on her phone, adding that it was clear to witnesses that the car was out of control when it collided with the other car.
There was extensive damage to Williams' car, damage to the offside on the Ford Fiesta with a wheel missing, as well as damage to the central reservation.
Williams was treated in hospital for several injuries and then taken to Middlewich custody suite.

Murder suspect found during drug investigation at Hall County home
A murder suspect on the run for over a year was caught during a Hall County drug investigation, deputies said. Investigators say Overstreet went to the Ridgecrest Apartments on Roper Hill Road to meet with someone. Police say they were planning to commit a crime, but did not specify what that was. Overstreet was then shot in the head and killed. Wrestler charged with kidnap after 'HELP!' note left at Jersey Mike's
A professional wrestler has been charged with felony kidnapping and assault after his alleged victim left a note in a Florida sandwich shop begging for help, according to authorities. Jordan Williams, a 34-year-old blue-haired wrestler known as Jayden Steele in the ring, was busted after investigators reviewed surveillance footage at the Jersey Mike's in Navarre where the note was found, according to NBC 15 News. Sandwich maker Eleanor Coffee told the outlet that she found the crumpled-up note on the restroom floor. '[The author] was like, 'Please help me. I'm at this address in Navarre. I need you to call the police and do a wellness check,'' said Coffee, who immediately alerted her manager and called 911. 'Let cops know don't approach the house unless my Hyundai Kona is in the driveway because his parents will alert him and he will hurt me… I just want to get home to my kids and family… He controls my phone so he will know [if you message me],' the note read, according to the arrest report seen by EWrestling News. 'Anybody who would do that to another woman, he don't need to be walking around free in our community,' Chief Tifft told NBC 15 News.
