Lucy Olsen shines in Washington Mystics win vs Las Vegas Aces
With the Washington Mystics missing leading scorer guard Brittney Sykes and Jade Melbourne on Thursday night vs. the Las Vegas Aces, former Iowa women's basketball guard Lucy Olsen showcased her efficient skillset in her first high-volume minutes game of her career in the team's 94-83 win from Las Vegas, Nev.
Starting her WNBA career primarily coming off the bench, Olsen was thrust into action against the Aces when starting guard Jade Melbourne left the game following a facial injury early in the first quarter.
In her first high-volume usage of her career, the former Hawkeye was able to score 14 points on 5-for-12 from the field, 3-for-7 from 3-point territory, and a perfect 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. Along with her scoring, she also collected four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 38 minutes of action.
It is still unknown whether Olsen will continue to garner similar minutes as the Mystics monitor the recovery statuses of their injured players, her impressive showing against the Aces should be enough to at least get some favorable consideration from the coaching staff.
Whatever her minutes may be moving forward, Olsen's performance drew high praise across the Iowa women's basketball community.
The next opportunity for Olsen to play will be when Washington travels to Arlington, TX, for their 7 p.m. CT matchup against the Dallas Wings from College Park Center on Saturday.

MSU football makes top 5 list for 4-star edge rusher Andrew Rogers

Andrew Rogers of Greensboro, N.C. released his top five schools on Friday, with the Spartans cracking the list. According to a post from Rogers on his social media X account, Michigan State was joined on his top five list by LSU, Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech. Rogers is a four-star edge rusher, with a recruiting rating of 91.97 in 247Sports composite system. He ranks as the No. 27 edge rusher and No. 232 overall prospect in the class. He is also listed as the No. 9 player from North Carolina in the class. Michigan State is one of more than 20 schools to offer Rogers, according to 247Sports. So this is pretty impressive to see Michigan State in the mix among some of the biggest brands in all of college football. We will have to continue to monitor Rogers' recruitment, with hopefully the Spartans coming out on top in this battle for a key 2027 prospect.
