Lucy Olsen shines in Washington Mystics win vs Las Vegas Aces

USA Today5 hours ago

With the Washington Mystics missing leading scorer guard Brittney Sykes and Jade Melbourne on Thursday night vs. the Las Vegas Aces, former Iowa women's basketball guard Lucy Olsen showcased her efficient skillset in her first high-volume minutes game of her career in the team's 94-83 win from Las Vegas, Nev.
Starting her WNBA career primarily coming off the bench, Olsen was thrust into action against the Aces when starting guard Jade Melbourne left the game following a facial injury early in the first quarter.
In her first high-volume usage of her career, the former Hawkeye was able to score 14 points on 5-for-12 from the field, 3-for-7 from 3-point territory, and a perfect 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. Along with her scoring, she also collected four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 38 minutes of action.
It is still unknown whether Olsen will continue to garner similar minutes as the Mystics monitor the recovery statuses of their injured players, her impressive showing against the Aces should be enough to at least get some favorable consideration from the coaching staff.
Whatever her minutes may be moving forward, Olsen's performance drew high praise across the Iowa women's basketball community.
The next opportunity for Olsen to play will be when Washington travels to Arlington, TX, for their 7 p.m. CT matchup against the Dallas Wings from College Park Center on Saturday.

Colorado's Julian Lewis receives program legend's approval to wear No. 10

Blessed to be able to wear 10 at CU @KSlash10 🐐 Before Colorado freshman quarterback Julian "JuJu" Lewis has even taken a snap for the Buffaloes, he is already acknowledging the program's legends. Lewis' No. 10 Colorado jersey was recently made available for purchase on Fanatics, with his father, T.C. Lewis, expressing gratitude to head coach Deion Sanders and the football program for allowing his son to continue wearing his number. "Little things like getting your number for kids go a long way," the elder Lewis said on social media. "Thankful for Deion Sanders and the staff at CU for how they've made Julian's transition to college life smooth." While JuJu's jerseys are available for purchase before he has even suited up for a game, he acknowledged legendary Colorado quarterback Kordell Stewart, who also donned No. 10. The dual-threat Stewart threw for 6,481 yards and 33 touchdowns in his time at CU. He also got active in the ground game, rushing for 1,289 yards and 15 touchdowns. His play, along with that of 1994 Heisman Winner Rashaan Salaam, headlined a golden era of Colorado football, which the Buffaloes have yet to live up to since. Stewart responded to Lewis, giving his approval for the five-star freshman to wear No. 10, along with gratitude and props from one quarterback to another. From day one you've been doing your thing. Proud of you and keep doing what you've been doing 10!! Let's SKOOOO 💪🏾🦬💪🏾 Lewis has yet to take the field in an official game for Colorado, but understands the weight of the number he wears. With Stewart setting the standard for what No. 10 means in Boulder, Lewis steps into big shoes and an even larger legacy. As the next quarterback to don the number, Lewis has a lot to live up to, but so far, he is doing everything the right way. MSU football makes top 5 list for 4-star edge rusher Andrew Rogers

Where's home 🏠✈️?? @grimsleyfb @RossMartinNC @RivalsFriedman @RivalsWardlaw @Rivals @AuburnFootball @HokiesFB @LSUfootball @MSU_Football @FSUFootball Michigan State is one of five schools in the running for a big-time edge rusher in the 2027 class. Andrew Rogers of Greensboro, N.C. released his top five schools on Friday, with the Spartans cracking the list. According to a post from Rogers on his social media X account, Michigan State was joined on his top five list by LSU, Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech. Rogers is a four-star edge rusher, with a recruiting rating of 91.97 in 247Sports composite system. He ranks as the No. 27 edge rusher and No. 232 overall prospect in the class. He is also listed as the No. 9 player from North Carolina in the class. Michigan State is one of more than 20 schools to offer Rogers, according to 247Sports. So this is pretty impressive to see Michigan State in the mix among some of the biggest brands in all of college football. We will have to continue to monitor Rogers' recruitment, with hopefully the Spartans coming out on top in this battle for a key 2027 prospect. Big Ben reacts to Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers' retirement talk: ‘Last glimpse of greatness'

Aaron Rodgers sent the NFL world into a frenzy with his retirement comments — and Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger has weighed in. On Wednesday's livestream of the Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, Rodgers' retirement comments were a hot topic of discussion — leading Big Ben to praise the farewell tour in 2025: "If we're going to take [Rodgers] for his word on that — that this is it — then you're going to get to see one of the greatest of all time play one more season," Roethlisberger said. "I think every week is gonna be must-see TV in a sense. … Fans of football are going to be coming out, whether it's at home, on the road — because you want to get a glimpse of greatness one last time. I think that'll be cool." Pittsburgh is hopeful that Rodgers can channel this "greatness" one last time — potentially leading to the Steelers' first playoff win since the 2016 season.
