KATI, BBSHRRDB to work jointly in order to develop skilled workforce
KARACHI: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) and the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Human Resource Research and Development Board (BBSHRRDB) have agreed to work jointly to develop a skilled workforce tailored to the evolving needs of the industrial sector.
During his visit to KATI, BBSHRRDB Secretary Munawar Ali Mithani highlighted that the Sindh government is actively revitalizing training institutions across the province to equip youth with modern skills aligned with local and international market requirements.
The meeting was attended by KATI President Junaid Naqi, Senior Vice President Ejaz Sheikh, Vice President Syed Tariq Hussain, Hyderabad Regional Consultant Engr. Taimoor Sial, Sukkur Regional Consultant Suleman Dasti, Deputy Director Masooma Rizvi, and other prominent members and officials from KATI.
Mithani emphasized the board's vision: 'Skilled and empowered youth for a peaceful, prosperous, and strong Pakistan.' He added that both literate and semi-literate youth are being provided with practical, employment-oriented training to transform their lives. 'The training programs are aligned with current industrial demands and future projections, enabling youth to find employment not just locally but globally as well,' he said.
He also noted the importance of strong collaboration between the public and private sectors to expand the reach of technical and vocational education, and to raise awareness about its value among the general population.
KATI President Junaid Naqi lauded the board's initiatives, stating, 'The country's industrial development relies heavily on a workforce that is not only skilled but aligned with modern industry standards.' He expressed confidence that the cooperation between KATI and BBSHRRDB would significantly benefit both the industrial sector and the youth, by creating dignified employment opportunities.
Naqi further stressed the need to implement the Apprenticeship Ordinance 1962 and its 1966 rules, and to update them in line with current industry needs.
Senior Vice President Ejaz Sheikh mentioned the presence of the National Institute of Leather Development (NILD), which could greatly benefit from BBSHRRDB's support. 'There is currently a shortage of skilled professionals in leather cutting, stitching, and pattern-making. The Tanners Association assures employment for trainees in these areas,' he said, adding that empowering women through skill development remains a top priority.

SFA chief says ‘no industrial inspection without prior notice'
KARACHI: In a significant move to improve transparency and ease operational hurdles for industrial stakeholders, the Director General of the Sindh Food Authority (SFA), Asif Jan Siddiqui announced that SFA teams will now issue prior notices before visiting any industrial units. The decision, he said, aims to end the practice of unannounced inspections and foster a more cooperative regulatory environment. Speaking at a meeting Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Siddiqui emphasised that no inspection teams will be allowed to visit any industry without prior notice. He further revealed that under the Sindh government 'Ease of Doing Business' initiative, the licensing process would soon be made fully online to streamline operations and minimise bureaucratic delays. DG Siddiqui announced that a dedicated focal person from the SFA will be stationed at KATI to assist industries in the Korangi Industrial Zone with registration and regulatory issues. He also highlighted the Authority's plans to conduct regular training sessions for industrial personnel to address regulatory challenges and promote food safety compliance. In a notable initiative, industries that voluntarily test their products and meet quality benchmarks will receive a 'Green Thumbs-Up' certification, which will be publicly promoted to raise consumer awareness about high-quality local products. 'Our goal is not to penalize, but to improve industry standards,' Siddiqui said. 'If quality can be enhanced through dialogue and cooperation, there is no need for heavy fines.' Siddiqui added that efforts are under way to establish state-of-the-art laboratories with new equipment to conduct international-standard testing, and that penalty structures will be revised in consultation with industry stakeholders. KATI President Junaid Naqi voiced concerns over frequent and abrupt transfers of SFA leadership, which he said disrupt policy continuity. He urged the provincial government to appoint DGs for longer tenures to ensure consistent progress and regulatory clarity. Naqi also raised concerns about the licensing process, unannounced raids, and excessive penalties, calling for a joint action plan to address these issues. Industrial leaders hail armed forces

Trade, industry bodies pay tribute to armed forces
KARACHI: Under the leadership of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), representatives from all major trade and industry associations in Karachi held a joint press conference to pay glowing tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their steadfast defense and successful response to recent Indian aggression. Speaking on the occasion, KATI President Junaid Naqi lauded the Armed Forces, particularly Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, for thwarting the Indian offensive and asserting Pakistan's strength on a global scale in an era dominated by advanced military technology. He expressed gratitude to the Army, Air Force, and Navy for their coordinated response, which not only neutralized the threat but also united the nation. He stated that the Indian military's use of top-tier fighter jets was effectively countered within minutes, leaving the adversary rattled. The swift and strategic countermeasures by Pakistan forced India to seek international mediation - a testament to the strength and preparedness of Pakistan's defense system. Naqi added that the operation rekindled national unity reminiscent of the 1965 war, with even political leadership rising above divisions to show patriotism. Prominent figures present at the conference included KATI Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Ejaz Sheikh, Vice President Syed Tariq Hussain, SITE Association President Azeem Alvi, F.B. SITE Superhighway Association President Masood Parvez appreciated KATI's initiative in bringing together all town associations on a single platform. He emphasized that while Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, its Armed Forces' strategic and courageous retaliation has earned global recognition. Despite being a defensive force, their response was more effective than anticipated, demonstrating that no external threat can compromise Pakistan's sovereignty. SITE Association's Azeem Alvi commended the military for fulfilling public expectations and emphasized the need for the government to now focus on crafting a strong economic policy in consultation with key stakeholders. He proposed that trade associations should continue holding such unified press conferences to convey their stance to the government clearly and powerfully. F.B. Area Association President Tahseen Sheikh hailed the Pakistan Air Force's lightning-fast response, stating that downing India's advanced fighter jets within hours shocked the enemy and uplifted the spirits of overseas Pakistanis. Tanners Association's Danish Aman remarked that India's aggression inadvertently united Pakistan once again. He noted that divisions within society faded as the entire nation came together; inspiring youth who were once considering emigration to now contribute to national progress. Vanaspati Manufacturers Association Chairman Sheikha Umer Rehan praised the Armed Forces' bravery and precise strategy that forced India into retreat. He said India has learned that it can no longer threaten Pakistan, especially regarding water aggression, and expressed hope that the Kashmir issue would also move closer to resolution. He urged the business community to play their part in strengthening Pakistan economically, just as the military had defended it militarily. Zubair Chhaya, Deputy Patron-in-Chief of KATI, concluded the conference by thanking Allah for the nation's victory and saluting the Armed Forces under General Asim Munir's leadership. He honoured the civilians and children who were martyred during the Indian attacks and said that the military's response, which began with verses from the Quran, transformed the defense of Pakistan into an unreachable fortress. 'This was perhaps the world's first war that began at dawn and ended by afternoon with a decisive Pakistani victory,' Chhaya said. He also applauded the Pakistani media for responsibly countering Indian propaganda and showing the world that Pakistan is a peace-driven, mature nation. The event was also addressed by KATI Senior Vice President Ejaz Sheikh and Vice President Syed Tariq Hussain, who echoed similar sentiments and called for national unity beyond the battlefield, especially in strengthening the country's economy.
