'Reckless driving' claims toddler's life

A toddler was crushed under a wagon near Jamali Bridge on Super Highway, in front of his mother's eyes on Wednesday. The driver's alleged recklessness claimed the life of two-and-a-half-year-old Farhan. The driver and cleaner responsible for the accident fled the scene.

The incident occurred near the D7 bus stop on Superhighway, Jamali Bridge. The mother was trying to get off the wagon with her son, Farhan, when the driver, in a hurry, drove the vehicle, resulting in the child being run over. His mother, covered in blood, rushed him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in an ambulance.
Chhipa Foundation spokesperson Chaudhry Shahid said the deceased child's mother stated she was a resident of Landhi Majid Colony and had come to visit her mother, who lived near Jamali Bridge. The mother said she was trying to get off the Mazda with her son when the inexperienced driver, in a hurry, drove the vehicle, resulting in her child being run over and killed.
The site's Super Highway police said the driver and cleaner responsible for the accident fled the scene. However, the police arrived, took control of the Mazda, and shifted it to the police station. According to Chhipa authorities, the deceased child's body was handed over to his family in Landhi Majid Colony after due procedure, while the police are further investigating the incident.
According to statistics released by Chhipa authorities on traffic accidents, a total of 255 people have died in various accidents in the city in 2025, including 195 men, 26 women, 26 boys, and eight girls. In 2025, a total of 3,438 people were injured in traffic accidents, including 2,795 men, 475 women, 127 boys, and 41 girls. In the past 99 days, the number of people killed in accidents involving heavy vehicles has reached 79.

Armed robbers impersonating policemen looted Rs9.5 million and other valuables from more than a dozen butchers travelling from Orangi Town to Mirpurkhas near the Toll Plaza on Superhighway in the early hours of April 30. The robbery took place near the shrine of Saint Jalal Shah Bukhari in Gadap Town, within the jurisdiction of Gadap City police station. As per police report, the butcher were intercepted at around 2.45am by suspects travelling in a white Vigo SUV which didn't have a licence plate. Four of the eight robbers were dressed in police uniforms. They were heavily armed and forcibly stopped the butchers' Hiace van, which was en route to the Mirpurkhas livestock market. The butchers, hailing from Urdu Chowk, Orangi Town No 10, were on a weekly trip to purchase cattle in Mirpurkhas. Police registered the FIR on the complaint of Farhan, son of Muhammad Aslam Qureshi, a resident of Orangi Town. Farhan recounted that the robbers held the butchers at gunpoint and looted cash, mobile phones, and other valuables from them. According to the FIR, the robbers looted amounts ranging from Rs17,000 to over Rs1 million, alongside valuable smartphones, documents, and personal belongings. Victims expressed concern over the police conduct, saying that an ASI in a black Vigo appeared on the scene immediately after the robbers fled and inquired about the incident. The ASI gave the robbers chase but never returned or spoke again to the victims. The butchers alleged that although they informed Duty Officer ASI Liaquat Ali about the suspects being dressed in police uniforms, this crucial detail was omitted from the initial police report. Although, victims had no phones to contact police, a Madadgar 15 mobile van reached shortly after the robbery, raising suspicions about how police were alerted. The victims have appealed to senior police officials to take notice of the incident, investigate the apparent impersonation of police, and recover the stolen money and valuables. Fake cops arrested The Surjani Town police conducted a raid in Sector 5D, New Karachi and arrested two fake police officials, identified as Shoaib and Saeed Jalal. According to SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi, the suspects were wearing police uniforms and harassing innocent people. Upon receiving information, the police took action and arrested them, recovering police uniforms, cash, and other documents from them. A case has been registered against them, and an investigation has been initiated.

Fifteen people including six children, five women and four men lost their lives while 22 sustained injuries in a tragic road accident when a Mazda mini-truck overturned on a slope apparently due to brake failure on Taung Dareji road in Thana Bula Khan, Jamshoro district. The tragedy unfolded in the wee hours of Tuesday when the labourers belonging to the Kolhi community were returning from Balochistan to their villages in Badin after completing the wheat harvest. The police and rescue officials informed that 11 of the victims had died on the spot while three succumbed to their injuries at Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad. The victims included Kaani wife of Aasan Kolhi and her four children, Vijay, Dhalu, Prakash, and Aarshi, Jugni Bheemo, Vaani Bhanu, Marva Rajesh, Dhani Haresh, Devi Balchand, and her daughter Monika, Bachu Mal, Raja Harijo, and Sooraj Mal. The deceased hailed from Digri city, Mir Murad Talpur village, and Bashir Ahmed village in Raju Khanani area of Badin. The injured included Aasan Kolhi who lost his wife and four children and Balchand who also lost his wife and a child were admitted to the LUH. Three of the patients are said to be in critical condition. Dr Lalchand Ukrani, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister on Minority Affairs, announced Rs200,000 compensation for the dead and Rs50,000 for the injured. Talking to the media in Karachi he claimed that the provincial government is trying to provide optimal treatment to the injured to ensure their early recovery.

According to police, the vehicle was travelling at high speed from Disco Bakery towards Maskan Chowrangi when the driver lost control and veered across the median strip, striking two men who were seated outside a roadside hotel. The deceased was identified as 42-year-old Saleem, who sustained fatal head and chest injuries. The injured man, Zeeshan, was rushed to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The incident caused chaos in the area, with enraged bystanders surrounding the vehicle and setting it on fire. By the time police arrived, the SUV was engulfed in flames. The fire brigade later extinguished the blaze. A police spokesperson from District East confirmed that three individuals from the vehicle, including the driver, have been taken into custody for questioning. "Initial investigations suggest the accident occurred due to speeding. The vehicle jumped the green belt and hit two people sitting on chairs outside a hotel," SHO Gulshan-e-Iqbal Naeem Rajput said. In a related development, three men suspected of setting the vehicle on fire have also been detained, police added. Chhipa Welfare spokesperson Chaudhry Shahid stated that the deceased suffered severe injuries to the head and ribs. According to Chhipa authorities, this fatality brings the number of deaths in road accidents in Karachi so far this year to 266. Police say an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and whether any charges will be filed.
