German cyclist John Degenkolb hopes to return to action at the end of the season after suffering multiple fractures in a heavy crash at the Tour of Flanders in April.
"I fractured several bones in this crash, in my wrist, forearm, elbow and collarbone. Unfortunately, everything that could break, did break," the former Paris-Roubaix champion told broadcasters Eurosport.

Degenkolb was involved in a mass crash little over halfway through the 269 kilometres race in Belgium.
The complexity of the injuries on his right side and the overall situation are more difficult than after the horrific accident in 2016, when he was hit by a car with a training group from his team in Spain.
But the German is not thinking about retirement.
"For me personally, it's very motivating that I never got to the point where I said: 'That's it.' It's my big goal, my big wish to race again.
"Next year I will hopefully be at the starting line for the Paris-Roubaix again," he said.
Degenkolb, 36, won Paris-Roubaix and Milan-Sanremo in 2015 and has stage wins at all three grand tours, the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana.

Goalie Flekken leaves Brentford for Bayer Leverkusen in pursuit of Champions League glory

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) — Bayer Leverkusen completed the signing of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford on Tuesday. The Netherlands international signed a three-year deal until June 30, 2028, for an undisclosed fee. 'Mark Flekken possesses a wide range of skills that a goalkeeper in modern top-flight football needs," Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said. "He has strong reflexes, good control of the penalty area, and, thanks to his height of 1.95 meters, has tremendous reach. "Mark exudes an impressive physical presence; from a footballing perspective, he has certainly been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past two years.' The 31-year-old Flekken spent two years at Brentford, making 77 appearances for the Premier League club. 'We were expecting Mark to be our goalkeeper for many more years, however when Bayer Leverkusen made it known that they wanted to do this transfer, and Mark made it clear that he was interested in moving closer to home and with a possibility of Champions League football, we turned our attention towards how all parties could make this happen," Brentford director of football Phil Giles said. Flekken previously played in Germany with Duisburg and Freiburg, but has the chance to compete for the biggest titles with the 2024 Bundesliga champion, which has just hired former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as its new coach. 'To be able to contribute my qualities to a top German club with ambitious national and European goals now makes me very happy," Flekken said. "I love the Bundesliga and, of course, I'm also looking forward to challenging for the Champions League with the Werkself.'

Leverkusen sign Brentford goalie Flekken

Bayer Leverkusen have signed Netherlands goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Premier League side Brentford, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday. German media reported Leverkusen paid 10 million euros (£8.45 million, $11.5 million) to secure the 31-year-old's services. Advertisement Flekken, who signed a deal running to 2028, will likely take over from current Leverkusen goalie Lukas Hradecky, who captained the side to their historic unbeaten league and cup double in 2023-24. In a statement, Flekken said he was taking "another special step in my career", adding that Leverkusen are "a top German club with high national and European goals". Leverkusen are expected to undergo a rebuild this off-season, with former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag having already replaced the Real Madrid-bound Xabi Alonso as coach. Centre-back Jonathan Tah signed on a free transfer with German champions Bayern Munich, while midfielder Florian Wirtz is in talks to join wing-back Jeremie Frimpong in moving to Premier League winners Liverpool. The Dutch 'keeper has Bundesliga experience, having spent five years at Freiburg before making the switch to Brentford in 2023. dwi/bsp

200-year-old condom goes on display at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum

The Netherlands' national museum has a new object on display that merges art with Amsterdam's infamous Red Light District: a nearly 200-year-old condom, emblazoned with erotic art. The Rijksmuseum said in a statement that the playful prophylactic, believed to be made around 1830 from a sheep's appendix, 'depicts both the playful and the serious side of sexual health'. It is part of an exhibition called Safe Sex? about 19th century sex work that opened on Tuesday. The condom, possibly a souvenir from a brothel, is decorated with an erotic image of a nun and three clergymen. The phrase 'This is my choice' is written along the sheath in French. According to the museum, this is a reference to the Pierre-Auguste Renoir painting The Judgment of Paris, which depicts the Trojan prince Paris judging a beauty contest between three goddesses. The condom is on display until the end of November.
