Lola Young leads the nominations for prestigious Ivor Awards
Messy singer Lola is up for three awards, while RAYE, Ghetts and Conor Dickinson picked up two nominations each
Lola Young's meteoric rise is showing no signs of slowing down. The Messy singer has just been nominated for three prestigious Ivor awards, the most this year.
She's up for Best Album, Rising Star and Best Song Musically and Lyrically. If she wins she'll join a roll of music greats like Adele, Stormzy, Annie Lennox, Amy Winehouse, Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It's a huge moment for the 24-year-old South Londoner, who's been taking the world by storm. So far in 2025, she's bagged a number one with viral hit Messy, was nominated for a Brit Award, performed at that ceremony. Then this month she took to the stage at huge US festival Coachella, where she brushed off a vomiting bug to wow the crowd.
RAYE – winner of last year's Songwriter of the Year – Ghetts, and Conor Dickinson all received two Ivor nominations.
The Best Album will be battled out between Charli xcx's BRAT, BERWYN's WHO AM I, Ghetts' On Purpose, With Purpose, Jordan Rakei's The Loop and Lola Young's This Wasn't Meant For You Anyway.
JADE, Fontaines D.C., Orla Gartland, Myles Smith, Dua Lipa, Pa Salieu and Laura Marling are also nominated.
Wham!'s Last Christmas in the running as one of PRS for Music's Top 5 Most Performed Songs of 2024, 21 years after George Michael was nominated in the same category.
Celebrating outstanding originality in songwriting, Best Contemporary Song sees a second nomination for Ghetts for Double Standards (feat. Sampha), JADE receives her first nomination as a solo artist with debut single Angel of My Dreams, as does Sans Soucis' Circumnavigating Georgia and Bashy's How Black Men Lose Their Smile. Finally, Pa Salieu is up for recognition with Allergy, four years on from his last nomination in the same category.
Best Song Musically and Lyrically acknowledges outstanding song craft. Child of Mine by Laura Marling is recognised, as is RAYE's 2024 single Genesis., Fontaines D.C.'s In the Modern World, Lola Young's UK chart-topping hit Messy, and Orla Gartland receives her first Ivor Novello nomination with Mine.
In the PRS for Music Most Performed Work category, the 2022 hit As It Was by Harry Styles, Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson is in contention for a third year running, demonstrating the longevity of this release. Last Christmas by Wham! gives George Michael a posthumous Ivor Novello Award nomination, 21 years since he was nominated in this category for Amazing. Also in the running are Houdini by Dua Lipa, Stargazing by Myles Smith, and Prada by Cassö, RAYE and D-Block Europe.
The Rising Star Award with Amazon Music celebrates British, Irish or UK resident songwriters aged 18-24 who are at the tipping point of greatness. Each nominee receives year-long, tailored support for their creativity and career from Amazon Music and The Ivors Academy, with 2023's Rising Star Victoria Canal going on to win the Ivor Novello for Best Song Musically and Lyrically last year. The 2025 nominations celebrate five female rising stars: Bea and her Business, Liang Lawrence, LULU., Nia Smith and Lola Young – who earns her third nomination this year.
The Ivors 2025 with Amazon Music recognises and celebrates songwriting and screen composing.
Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, said: 'Everyone knows The Ivors are the most joyful celebration of music making in the calendar. Many of the most talented and creative people on the planet get together to celebrate each other's exceptional originality and craft. Congratulations to all of the remarkable nominees this year. It's a huge privilege for The Ivors Academy to champion music creation in all its forms.'
Roberto Neri, Chief Executive of The Ivors Academy, said: 'An Ivor Novello Award holds a unique place in music, as it is judged by fellow songwriters and composers, making it the most respected acknowledgement of creative excellence. We are proud to welcome and celebrate the nominees' achievements and look forward to honouring their work at the 70th edition of The Ivors in May.'
This year marks the 70th year of the prestigious awards, with the winners revealed on May 22 at Grosvenor House, London.

His partner was tragically found dead last year fresh start Huge British singer returns to the stage after devastating family tragedy A BRITISH singer has bravely returned to the stage for the first time since a devastating family tragedy. The Broken Strings vocalist, 40, left fans delighted with his festival performance - and the confession he "can't wait" until his new tour. 5 A British chart star has returned to the stage after a devastating family tragedy 5 James Morrison took to the festival set and said he 'can't wait' for his tour Credit: Instagram 5 He sadly lost his partner Gill Catchpole, 45, last year James Morrison, who has sold millions of records ever since he first emerged in 2006 with his triple-platinum debut album Undiscovered, took to his Instagram page to share his emotion. The star was with his partner Gill Catchpole, 45, until her tragic death last year. She was found dead at the family home in Whitminster, Gloucestershire on January 5, 2024. A source at the time said: 'Gill was found dead on Friday at the family's home in Whitminster. 'James is devastated and is being supported by his family. 'He is holding it together for their girls but has asked for the family to be left alone to grieve in private.' James, who won the Brit Award for Best British Male in 2007, shared two children with his late partner. Now, the You Give Me Something chart star is starting a fresh chapter of his life as he returns to music. After taking to the stage at a festival, he posted a picture to Instagram and wrote: "What a joy it was to perform at @inittogetherfestival a few weeks ago. "I can't wait for the tour in September." Inside James Morrison's sweet love story with late wife Gill and unusual way they met as she's found dead at their home aged 45 One fan was quick to write: "Love this so happy to see you back!!" A second put: "Beautiful song ( can't stop listening to it ) So happy to see you back xx" A third then posted: "We miss you so much! hope you are feeling better now!" Another surmised: "Lovely to see you back doing gigs, when are you coming to Bath again, I hope it's soon. x" James has also worked as a songwriter for Kelly Clarkson and Demi Lovato. LOVE STORY Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, the musician previously revealed how he met his late partner Gill. James met Gill when she moved in as a lodger at his mum's house, with her then-boyfriend. The singer explained: "It wasn't the easiest start, but I just still see it as a really romantic thing. I'm not very romantic. 'I'm not like: 'I love romance!' But I do find certain things romantic and the fact that we met each other the way we did. It's like a little fairy tale or something!" James and Gill's romance blossomed around three months after the boyfriend had left, but there was another twist in the tale. James explained: "He got me back. "My mum rang me one day. And she said: 'I'm out on a date. I wonder if you can pick me up? ''I said: 'Where are you?' And she said: 'I'm at John's house.' And I was like: 'John's house? Who's John? ''She said: 'You know, Gill's John. "Okay, so I have to go and pick my mum up from my girlfriend's ex's house, and it was the most awkward thing! ''But I didn't like the fact that she said that. So I was like: 'No it's not a date. They're just hanging out.' Yeah, it was awkward!" The singer also explained that the early connection with his partner came from music - because her dad was also a musician. He said: "We just had a connection straight away really. But I had to wait two years to find out if what I thought I felt was real. "Because I wasn't going out with her for the first year or so she lived there. She was with her boyfriend, so I was getting to know her. "And I didn't want to tell her that I fell in love with her the first moment I set eyes on her because I didn't know, I never fell in love before. "So I didn't really know if it was that. So it was like a massive moment for me to even tell her that I liked her." 5 Fans were elated to see Broken Strings singer James back on-stage Credit: Getty
