Covid-19: Karnataka govt issues advisory for citizens; urges to wear masks, maintain physical distancing and more
Amid the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Karnataka government on Saturday issued a public advisory and appealed to the people to practice responsible behaviour by wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining physical distancing, and practicing good hygiene, reported PTI.
The Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner issued the public advisory on Covid-19 surveillance and safety, added the report.
"In light of the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in Karnataka, the state continues to monitor and manage Covid-19 through on-going efforts to prevent transmission, detect cases, and provide care. The Department of Health and Family Welfare requests all citizens not to panic, but stay vigilant and actively support public health efforts," PTI quoted the advisory as saying.
"Continued cooperation is crucial to detect and contain any new variants or potential outbreaks. "Your health is our priority," it said.
The public are advised to: "Stay Alert, Not Anxious: Stay informed through official sources, avoid unverified information. Share Information with Health Staff: Inform authorities about travelers from abroad for needful followup."
"Practice responsible behaviour: Wear masks in crowded places, maintain physical distancing, practice good hygiene," it further said.
Seeking cooperation from the public, the government's health department said it would conduct random testing and allow sample collection for surveillance.
It asked people to report unusual increases in COVID-19-like symptoms via the community monitoring tool on the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) portal.
Among other things, the government reiterated for surveillance at schools by keeping sick children home, monitoring pupils for symptoms, promoting hygiene, and ensuring proper ventilation. The advisory stressed hygiene and environmental awareness by practising good hygiene, disposing of waste properly, and keeping public areas clean.
However, the government said that they are in alert mode.
"Call toll-free helpline number 1800 425 8330 for health advice, and 108 for emergency patient transport. Together, we can quickly identify and control potential illnesses, keeping ourselves and our people safe," it said.
As of Friday, 234 Covid active cases have been reported in the state. Since 1 January, three patients with the infection have died.

Suspected of an infection, her respiratory samples were sent for a viral panel test and she tested positive for Covid-19. While she apparently had no existing health conditions, tests revealed her heart ejection fraction was as low as 20%. That is the reason why the vulnerable need to remain protected." Peerless's lab detected three positive cases on Tuesday, including that of a child, who is admitted at the hospital. Critical care and ECMO specialist Arpan Chakraborty of Apollo Multispecialty Hospital said that a section of patients with comorbidities was likely to need intensive care if they tested positive for Covid. Among the seven Covid positive patients admitted at the hospital was an 80-year-old man who had heart issues. "Timely detection and close monitoring in hospital are required for patients," said infectious diseases specialist Sayan Chakraborty of Manipal Hospital Dhakuria. "We have three Covid patients, including one in the ICU, while we discharged two recently," said Doli Biswas, chief nursing officer of Fortis Hospital Anandapur. Gujarat logs 108 new Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra confirms 86 infections

The latest spike has raised the number of active cases in the state to 461. Of these, 20 patients are receiving hospital care, while the remaining 441 are recovering in home isolation. The department also reported that 43 patients have been discharged after recovering. Health officials confirmed that the new infections are linked to the Omicron LF.7.9 and XFG Recombinant sub-variants. These variants are known to cause mild symptoms, primarily low-grade fever and cough. Authorities urged residents not to panic, stating that Covid-19 infections tend to follow a 'rising trend' every six to eight months. No additional information was provided regarding the deceased patient. Maharashtra registers 86 cases, four deaths Maharashtra reported 86 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases recorded since 1 January 2025 to 959, according to the state health department. Of these, 435 individuals have recovered, while 510 cases remain active. The state has also reported four deaths since Monday—two in Nagpur, and one each in Chandrapur and Miraj. Mumbai has reported 509 Covid-19 cases since January, with 503 of them recorded in May alone. Since the beginning of the year, Maharashtra has reported 14 Covid-related deaths. Of these, 13 patients had pre-existing medical conditions such as nephrotic syndrome with hypocalcaemic seizures, cancer, diabetic ketoacidosis, interstitial lung disease, cardiac arrhythmia and Parkinson's disease. One of the deceased was a 47-year-old woman who had presented symptoms of fever and shortness of breath. Since January 2025, Maharashtra has conducted 12,880 Covid-19 tests. Patients who test positive are receiving appropriate treatment, the department confirmed.

Only BS6, electric & CNG commercial vehicles in Delhi from November 1 under new anti-pollution plan
The government plans to utilise 1000 water sprinklers among other things to curb pollution in Delhi. (PTI) Notify me In a significant move to promote green mobility and combat vehicular emissions, the Delhi Government has announced that only BS6 and CNG commercial vehicles will be allowed in the city from November 1. The government additionally, also announced the deployment of 2,299 electric autos at key Delhi Metro stations as part of its newly launched Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025. Unveiled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, the plan puts electric transportation at the centre of the capital's fight against air pollution. To support this major shift, the government will install 18,000 public and semi-public EV charging points across the city. These will be located at malls, airports, railway and bus stations, and commercial hubs maintained by both municipal bodies and private operators. An audit of existing EV infrastructure is also on the cards, with upgrades and expansions planned in the coming months. Government fleets to go electric In addition to expanding public EV access, the plan outlines that 80 per cent of Delhi government vehicles will transition to clean fuel, while a revised electric vehicle policy is expected to encourage greater adoption of private and commercial EVs. Non-essential, non-electric vehicles will be gradually phased out from forest and protected areas, where only EVs will be allowed to operate. Smart intelligent traffic system A smart intelligent traffic system is being introduced to ease congestion, a major contributor to vehicular pollution, along with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at all border entry points. These cameras will help flag End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles trying to enter the city. Real-time SMS alerts will warn vehicle owners from neighbouring states, while billboards will publicise the restrictions. To further ensure emission compliance, Pollution Under Control (PUC) centres will now be audited every six months. Launching the action plan, CM Gupta said, 'A clean and healthy Delhi is our vision, and vehicle pollution is a direct threat to that. But we must find solutions that are citizen-friendly." Responding to queries, she also ruled out a return to the controversial Odd-Even scheme, saying it had caused inconvenience and was not suited to the city's daily realities. Dust control Beyond automotive reforms, the plan includes extensive dust control measures, beginning with the plantation of 70 lakh saplings under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which starts on World Environment Day (June 5). The city will also deploy 1,000 water sprinklers, 140 anti-smog guns, and install mist sprayers at 13 pollution hotspots, monitored through GPS and sensor-based dashboards. Supporting infrastructure will include 200 mechanised road sweepers, 70 electric litter pickers, and 38 water tankers. High-rise buildings above 3,000 square metres, such as malls and hotels, must install rooftop anti-smog guns, operational year-round except during monsoons. Cloud seeding In a first for the city, the government will test cloud seeding technology in collaboration with IIT Kanpur to reduce airborne dust, an initiative CM Gupta called a 'historic step" for Delhi. MoUs will also be signed with experts and organisations to evaluate other innovative solutions for pollution control. Tackling waste and expanding air monitoring Efforts to curb solid waste-related pollution are also central to the plan. The government has set deadlines to eliminate waste at key landfill sites: Okhla by March 2027, Bhalswa by December 2027, and Ghazipur by September 2028. The Okhla waste-to-energy plant will be upgraded to 2,950 TPD capacity, and a new 3,000 TPD plant will be set up at Narela-Bawana. To monitor air quality more effectively, the city will add six new monitoring stations, and an E-waste Eco Park will be established to manage electronic waste sustainably. A new industrial policy is also in the works to enhance compliance in manufacturing zones.
