Report: Texans offered three future picks to move up into top 40 of draft
Knowing Nick Caserio, the Houston Texans were always going to make trades during Day 2 of last month's NFL Draft. They did, targeting Minnesota offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders to move up 10 spots in the second round from No. 58 to No. 48.
But was there another move in mind for Houston? What about another player other than the All-Big Ten tackle and three-year starter for the Golden Gophers? According to one report, the Texans might have been after another Big Ten talent to bolster new offensive coordinator Nick Caley's personnel.
In the first episode of the New England Patriots' Forged in Foxboro video series, cameras inside the draft room showed the offers the Patriots were getting while on the clock at No. 38. In the video, the Texans called, offering the Patriots a package of three picks in a swap: The No. 58 and No. 79 picks in the 2025 draft as well as a third-round pick in 2026.
The Patriots declined, leading to the selection of Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson. The Chicago Bears also made a phone call, specifically for Henderson, though the offer was just for a 2025 seventh-round pick to move down one spot. With New England wanting another running back to pair with Drake Maye, it elected to stand pat and select the national champion playmaker.
But the Texans' willingness to move up 20 spots must mean they were interested in one specific player. Ersery very well could have been the selection, but Henderson's pass-catching ability and downhill running style is exactly the type of play Caley was accustom to seeing during his time with the Los Angeles Rams.
Houston eventually targeted receiving threat Woody Marks in Round 4, giving up a future third-round pick to secure his services. He'll be a Day 1 contributor, but Henderson's arrival would mark not only another former C.J. Stroud teammate but also a long-term plan to replace Pro Bowler Joe Mixon after his contract expires in 2027.
But say Henderson wasn't the target. Who was? Could the Texans have been going after another receiver like Luther Burden III? LSU's Mason Taylor was rumored to be an option in the passing game, so could Houston have been targeting its next starting tight end?
Regardless, the Texans landed a starting-caliber offensive tackle without breaking the bank. New England received solid offers, but they liked Henderson so much that they passed on talent. They see him having a big role in their offense, and they were willing to turn down extra picks to ensure they got him.

90 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 90?

90 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 90? Who is the G.O.A.T. to wear No. 90 in a Texans' uniform? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 90 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 90 No. 90 currently belongs to Sheldon Rankins, who returned to Houston on a one-year deal after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this offseason. He was Houston's best interior run defender in 2023 for a unit that finished top 15 in run defense en route to a first AFC South division title since 2019. Rankins nearly signed a long-term deal with the Texans following his 7.5 sack season, but the Bengals offered more. Following a lost season in the AFC North, Rankins hopes to be a long-term member of the Texans' success to close out his career, though Tim Settle is currently wearing his No. 98, so No. 90 will have to do for the upcoming campaign. While Rankins wears No. 90, he's only going to be in for a season, therefore eliminating him from being the best player to don the number. That doesn't mean the jersey hasn't been worn by some talentend prospects over the years. DL Sheldon Rankins (present) DE Ali Gaye (2023) DT Taylor Stallworth (2022) DT Ross Blacklock (2020-2021) LB Javedon Clowney (2014-2018) DL Terrell McClain (2012) DE Mario Williams (2006-2011) DL Jason Davis (2005) DL Terrance Martin (2003) DL Shawn Worthen (2002) Best Player: Mario Williams Clowney was one of the league's best run-stoppers during his five seasons in Houston, but Williams did it all. The NC State product quietly rose up draft boards into the No. 1 spot in 2006 and never looked back. Over his six years, Williams racked up 48 sacks, 85 tackles for loss, 10 forced fumbles and nine pass breakups. While the success carried over to Buffalo, resulting in a six-year contract, Williams helped the Texans become a promising team with realistic expectations. He was also the first star defensively on the line before J.J. Watt arrived in 2011.

Caitlin Clark's Big Flex After Fever's 27-Point Blowout of Angel Reese, Sky

Caitlin Clark's Big Flex After Fever's 27-Point Blowout of Angel Reese, Sky originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever did not even need Caitlin Clark on Saturday night. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year's injury absence for Indiana's big game against the Chicago Sky was one of the prevailing storylines heading into the rivalry clash, but as it turns out, the Fever had no trouble taking care of business without their star player. Advertisement Indiana completely dominated the Sky in this one, 79-52, as the Fever secured their second blowout victory against Chicago this season. On top of that, Indiana also secured back-to-back wins after losing their first two games with Clark sidelined. Clark may not have been playing in this one, but she was very active on the bench supporting her teammates. The 23-year-old then took to social media to share her reaction to the Fever's 27-point win over their biggest rivals. Clark flexed Indiana's big win by sharing the Fever's post. She did not add any caption to her Instagram story, instead letting the score speak for itself. Advertisement It was Kelsey Mitchell who led the charge for the Fever in this one, as the two-time All-Star stepped up in a major way with Clark watching from the bench. Mitchell went off for a game-high 17 points and five rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. The good news for Mitchell and the rest of the Fever is that life is about to get much easier for them. Clark herself recently revealed that she is aiming to return from injury in Indiana's next game, which is on Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream. Former USC guard Desmond Claude commits to Washington

Former USC guard Desmond Claude commits to Washington Back in April, USC men's basketball star guard Desmond Claude made headlines when he surprisingly entered the transfer portal. On Sunday, Claude found a new home: He is headed to the Pacific Northwest to join Big Ten foe Washington. Claude is not the first Trojan transfer to depart for the Huskies this offseason. In May, Washington hired away USC assistant coach Quincy Pondexter. Shortly following that move, another high-profile Trojan transfer, Wesley Yates III, also announced his commitment to the Huskies. Here is what Huskies Wire had to say about the addition of Claude: 'As the Huskies scoured the country for a seasoned, high-impact wing to round out the rotation, the 6-foot-6 senior, who was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention for the 2024-25 season, is the perfect fit. Although he shot just 30.7 percent from long range last season, which has been one of Sprinkle's biggest points of emphasis throughout the offseason, Claude led the Trojans with an average of 15.8 points and 4.2 assists per game, adding 3.5 rebounds per contest while bringing several much-needed aspects to the roster.' With Claude and Yates both departing Southern California for Seattle, next season's matchups between USC and Washington should certainly be interesting. The Trojans and Huskies are slated to face off twice next season—once at Galen Center, and once in the Pacific Northwest.
