Carlisle United have released eight players, including club captain Sam Lavelle, following their relegation from League Two to the National League.Defender Lavelle played 89 times for the club across the past two seasons.Midfielder Callum Guy also departs after a five-year spell in which he made 179 appearances over six seasons, while former Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett leaves after an injury-hit period since joining in January.Ben Barclay, Taylor Charters, Anton Dudik, Dylan McGeouch and Josh Vela are the other players who have not had their contracts renewed.Winger Kadeem Harris and forward Matthew Dennis have both been offered new deals by the club, while defender Jack Ellis has had an option activated for next season.Carlisle finished 23rd in the table, seven points from safety.

Saturday's Gallagher Premiership final was there for Leicester to snatch. But, ultimately, the best team won. Bath deserved to claim victory in the one-off title decider and they also deserved to be league champions because they were the division's superior side throughout the league campaign. Hats off to them and their head of rugby Johann van Graan.
