Suniel Shetty says working with ‘fearless' Divya Bharti in Mohra was a dream: We used to plan how to make people laugh

The action film Mohra proved to be a game changer for Suniel Shetty. Originally, late actor Divya Bharti had been cast opposite Suniel, but following her sudden death, Raveena Tandon stepped into the lead role. In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Suniel recalled working with Divya and heaped praise on her fearless spirit. Suniel remembered his time on set with Divya at the Pahalgam jail location: 'We shot at Pahalgam jail, but that girl was fearless. There were real convicts in the jail, yet she was absolutely fearless. Again, she was full of life and masti. Toh kahin na kahin Rajiv ko kaise hum sata sakte hain, Shabeer ko hum kaise sata sakte hain, humari planning wohi rehti thi (So, in one way or another, figuring out how to tease Rajiv and Shabeer—that was always our plan), how we could make people laugh and lighten the atmosphere. It was an absolute dream to work with her.'
For the unversed, Suniel made his Bollywood debut in Balwaan, which also featured Divya Bharti. Mohra, directed by Rajiv Rai, went on to become a huge box-office success, starring Akshay Kumar, Naseeruddin Shah and Raveena Tandon in principal roles, with Poonam Jhawer, Raza Murad, Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover and Sadashiv Amrapurkar in key supporting parts.
Divya Bharti was among the highest-paid Indian actresses of her time. She has featured in several successful films like Bobbili Raja, Rowdy Alludu, Shola Aur Shabnam, Deewana and others. She was just 19 when she tragically fell from the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment in Versova, Andheri West, Bombay, and later died at Cooper Hospital.
Suniel will next be seen in the historical action film Kesari Veer, which marks Sooraj Pancholi's comeback to the big screen and also stars Vivek Oberoi and Akanksha Sharma. The film is scheduled for release in cinemas on 23 May.

Thug Life Row Reaches SC, Plea Challenging Ban On Kamal Haasan's Film To Be Heard

Last Updated: During the film's audio launch, Kamal Haasan claimed that 'Kannada is born out of Tamil', sparking strong reactions in Karnataka. The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on June 13 a plea challenging Karnataka's 'ban" on the screening of Thug Life, a film by veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam and superstar Kamal Haasan. Initially, a bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan questioned the petitioner for directly filing a petition before the top court and asked as to why he did not approach the Karnataka High Court. In response, advocate A. Valan, representing Bengaluru's M. Mahesh Reddy, stated that the Karnataka HC has sought an apology from Kamal Haasan. After much persuasion, the apex court agreed to hear the matter on Friday. During the film's audio launch, Kamal Haasan claimed that 'Kannada is born out of Tamil", sparking strong reactions in Karnataka. Following the controversy, the Karnataka HC suggested that the actor-politician issue an apology, but he has refused to do so. As a result of the actor's refusal to issue an outright apology, the film's release in Karnataka has been postponed indefinitely. Last week, Kamal Haasan wrote a letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce stating that the row over his remarks on the origins of the Kannada language is a result of a misunderstanding. In his letter, the superstar also maintained that he is against the dominance of one language over another. Despite the controversy, Thug Life is one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year. The project marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after nearly four decades, following their legendary 1987 collaboration 'Nayakan", considered a milestone in Indian cinema. The gangster drama features a star-studded cast, including Silambarasan T.R. in a key role, alongside Trisha, Nasser, Joju George, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sanya Malhotra, and Ali Fazal. Thug Life is a joint production of Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies, and will be distributed by Red Giant Movies. First Published:

Return of Saudagar

Arnab Ray is the author of "May I Hebb Your Attention Pliss" and "The Mine". He blogs at and can be followed at @greatbong. Megalomaniacs turn up the heat, we grab the popcorn We always knew this day would come – the epic fallout between the richest man in the world and the most powerful. A bromance between megalomaniacs was never built to last. As a recovering Bollywood addict, I can't help but think of Saudagar (1991). Like the film's titans – Veeru Singh (Dilip Kumar) and Rajeshwar Singh (Raaj Kumar) – Trump and Musk have transformed from best friends to blood enemies. Remember when they danced through metaphorical meadows plotting to dismantle old empires, singing 'Is jangal main hum do sher, chal ghar jaldi crypto beche pher?' – Kings of the jungle cooking crypto gravy. Musk once declared he loved Trump 'as much as a straight man can love a man'. Trump gave him magical powers beyond any law. Then came the schemers. Chuniya (played by JD Vance – sorry, Amrish Puri) and Baliram (played by Steve Bannon – sorry again, Gulshan Grover) set fire to the friendship. Suddenly accusations fly. Veeru hints at Epstein files, Rajeshwar threatens federal contracts. Somewhere, Dilip Kumar delivers the killer line: 'Hum tumhe marenge aur zaroor marenge, lekin woh kanoon bhi humara hoga, policy bhi humari hogi, aur waqt bhi humara hoga' – We will get you, law is ours, policy is ours, time will be ours. The only suspense? Who 'humara' will be – MAGA or the billionaire oligarch libertarian cabal battling for America's future. Today's kids won't know the joy of front-row seats at Priya cinema, but they can re-experience Saudagar by logging onto X and Truth Social to watch these ex-yaars hurl insults and subpoenas. Musk now hints at bankrolling Trump's opposition, declaring: 'Jab Musk dosti nibhata hai, toh Starlink free kar deta hai. Aur jab dushmani karta hai, toh blue checkmarks chheen leta hai' – In friendship he gave free Starlink, in feud he will take away the blue tick. Trump's flex isn't far behind. 'Yeh Thakur Trump, itihaas batata naheen, executive order likhta hai' – Forget history, Thakur writes executive orders. Will they reconcile in the third act? Will Chuniya twirl his hair and whisper 'Balirama, telephone kat kar, Tesla ko short kar' – Let's start shorting Tesla. Who knows. All I know is I'm grabbing popcorn for this battle royale. As they said in Saudagar, 'There is no worse enemy than a man who was once a friend.' Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.
