As IPL fever grips the capital, Delhi Police have ramped up security at the Arun Jaitley Stadium by deploying face recognition system (FRS) buses at key entry points to detect and intercept troublemakers, Times of India has reported. This heightened surveillance comes in the wake of a bomb threat email received by the Delhi and District Cricket Association, as well as concerns triggered by ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Two FRS-equipped buses have been stationed strategically—one on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and the other on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg—both being high-traffic access points to the stadium.'Each bus is fitted with two cameras that are connected to the FRS technology which facilitates the scanning and identification of individuals based on facial recognition,' TOI quoted a police officer as saying.Inside every FRS bus, four police personnel are on duty. Two monitor the live FRS feed, while the other two interrogate flagged individuals, particularly those with criminal records. The system matches faces against a database sourced from the National Crime Records Bureau and internal police dossiers. To maintain vigilance, police regularly test the system by sending dummy officers through the checkpoints. 'This dual approach enhances the likelihood of identifying and apprehending potential threats before they enter the stadium,' the officer added.DCP (Central) M. Harsha Vardhan has formed dedicated teams under Rajeev Kumar Vats, the station house officer of Indraprastha police station, to manage stadium security on match days.Apart from technology, police have deployed plainclothes officers posing as fans to crack down on black-market ticket sales outside the stadium. On April 28, police arrested a 35-year-old man from Jharkhand for scalping; ten tickets were recovered from him. A day earlier, two men were caught selling seven tickets illegally during the Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match. In a parallel crackdown, police busted two betting rackets linked to IPL games, arresting six individuals and seizing over Rs 20 lakh in cash.(With inputs from TOI)

KSCA officials quit hours after HC shield from arrest

Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam have resigned from their posts, owing moral responsibility for the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday, hours after the Karnataka High Court granted them protection from police arrests. In a letter to KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, they said they wished to own moral responsibility though their role was very limited. The stampede and congestion near the stadium led to the death of 11 cricket fans and injuries to scores of others. The resignations followed the state government launching a crackdown on the agencies involved in organising the felicitation events at the Chinnaswamy stadium after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the first time. On Thursday, chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest of senior executives of RCB, KSCA and event manager DNA Entertainment Network. Shankar and Jairam, along with Bhat, moved the High Court on Friday after the police charged the three organisations with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In their petition, the KSCA office bearers said the association was only a governing body of cricket in Karnataka with affiliation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It has nothing to do with IPL events and Wednesday's celebrations were organized by RCB franchise and managed by its vendor DNA Entertainment Network, they argued. KSCA's role was limited to making the stadium and its infrastructure available to RCB and DNA. The police, the petitioners alleged, registered the FIR against them under intense pressure and compelling circumstances without any preliminary enquiry.

Two persons arrested for Rs 10L travel voucher fraud

Rourkela: Cyber police arrested two employees of a local IT-enabled services company on Friday night for allegedly defrauding their German client of around Rs 10 lakh through unauthorised manipulation of travel vouchers. They have been identified as Goutam Kumar Marndi (23) and Pitamber Hembram (24), both residents of Sector-19 here. The accused, whose employer provided customer support services to the German firm, allegedly created unauthorised tickets using travel vouchers meant for compensating customers with cancelled bookings. "The accused exploited their legitimate access to German company's online portal to create unauthorized tickets, which they sold at 40% discount through WhatsApp and Telegram channels," said Serofina Xess, IIC, Cyber police station, Rourkela. Investigation revealed that Marndi and Hembram collaborated with external parties to sell these discounted tickets, causing significant financial loss to German company, which operates in over 43 countries. The fraud came to light on May 2, 2025, when the company discovered unauthorised leakage and misuse of these voucher codes. Police found multiple WhatsApp accounts linked to the fraud on the accused's mobile phones.
