Whoopi Goldberg puts global spotlight on women's sports, athletes with All Women's Sports Network
Whoopi Goldberg is making her mark on the sports world by putting a spotlight on women athletes.
The EGOT winner has had a longtime passion for sports, which she credits to her brother.
"He took me everywhere. When I got famous, I took him everywhere," Goldberg said. "I wanted to do all the things he did. He played softball. He played baseball. He played basketball … and I wanted to do it, and there was no place for us."
So Goldberg co-founded the All Women's Sports Network, the first-ever global sports network exclusively dedicated to female sports. The network features sports like table tennis, cricket, field hockey, basketball and soccer.
But it took time to create. Goldberg said she's been working on this network for 15 years.
"Everybody I took the idea to … they patted me on the head and said no one wants to watch women's sports – but they do, I do," she said.
It's not limited to sports in the U.S., an important factor for Goldberg while she helped to create the international platform.
"I wanted to make sure it was a global network because there is more in the world of sports than us," she said. "I wanted us to see what other people are doing."
Goldberg hopes to engage women in each corner of the world.
"There are parts of the world where women don't have a lot of rights, but they do have the right to play sports," she said. "So this is helpful I think to those countries as well as to those women because if we can get women engaged with the sports and people can see that they, too, can be helpful, we can put money into them."
While Goldberg doesn't have a favorite sport to watch, she told "CBS Mornings," "I really want to convince us to get into race car driving."

Report: Potential Location For Goldberg's Retirement Match With WWE Revealed
Goldberg will hang up the boots later this year as he steps into a WWE ring one more time. WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg has been hard at work this year preparing for one final match. This will mark the end of his almost three-decade on-and-off-again career. Advertisement When speaking with My San Antonio this week, Goldberg revealed his final match will take place 'down south' before the end of the year. While his opponent is still unknown, we might have a good idea of where his final match will take place thanks to a new report. According to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), Goldberg's retirement match is tentatively being scheduled for Atlanta. This is the same city where Goldberg won the WCW Championship for the first time against Hollywood Hogan at the Georgia Dome on Nitro. He also played for the Georgia Bulldogs in college and the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. While it has yet to be officially announced, WWE has a Saturday Night's Main Event scheduled for July 12 in Atlanta. The same day as AEW All In: Texas. Fans won't be forced to choose however as All In is scheduled to air Saturday afternoon. Sapp can't confirm that this is the night of Goldberg's retirement match. Goldberg Opens Up About Knee Issues, Recent Injuries Ahead Of WWE Retirement Match
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg revealed that his knee complications have made it difficult for him to prepare ahead of his final match. Despite this setback, he is working diligently to stage the last bout of his illustrious three-decade career. He has hinted that the match will take place 'down south' before the year's end. The reports indicate that WWE creative has recently discussed his retirement plans. The match is tentatively scheduled for Atlanta, a city that holds significant meaning in his career. Advertisement On a recent episode of the CarCast podcast, Goldberg revealed that he already knows the date of his retirement match. Goldberg also admitted that the last few months have been physically challenging, as he suffered multiple injuries during training. 'I hurt myself a couple times in the past three months. But, I pulled back and it's really tough to have the mentality I do but to have the body that I do now, with the mileage on it and then go into the Muay Thai gym and hit the pads and not go crazy and then blow (your) shoulder out and blow your bicep out and pull your hamstring from throwing a high kick. There's a huge balance. I've been in the ring a couple times. I'm gonna get in the ring again today and it's just tough, man. Me doing that right there, that was the first day that I felt really good.' And so, I changed the diet back a little bit… Man, I'm never gonna be the way that I used to be by any stretch of the imagination. But dammit, for a 58-year-old guy, I'm gonna be in some seriously freakin' awesome shape and I'm gonna freak some people out I believe and hopefully my performance is equal to my appearance which hopefully, you know, is okay. I'm terrified to put those underwear, those trunks on again. I may even go with different kind of trunks, for the only time in my life.' Goldberg 'can't run without pain' 'And then there's another thing. I'm extremely limited because of my left knee. I can't run. I mean, I can run, but it hurts. So I'm not gonna exacerbate the pain by going out and running. I'm on a sprint bike and I'm doing different stuff for my cardio. The kickboxing doesn't hurt that much because I'm not running. But, you find ways around things and I mean, the scenario's not perfect by any stretch so you gotta work around stuff. Hell, I'm working around my shoulder that you remember six months ago, I couldn't do this (lift my arm).' 'I'm pretty frickin' strong now, I mean, comparatively and it's funny because ever since we moved here, I haven't been able to use my arm for five years. I just didn't use it because it hurt so bad and I've had to retrain myself to do the normal, daily things and use my arm, and that's what's gotten me back into it. It's just not favoring it by any stretch and not having it be a hindrance by any means and going out of my way to do everything with my right hand as opposed to before; everything with my left hand… I became a lefty as a kid because I broke my right arm.'
