Banahan takes up Gloucester-Hartpury coaching role

Gloucester-Hartpury have appointed former England back Matt Banahan as assistant coach.
The 38-year-old joins the Premiership Women's Rugby side after leaving his role as Scotland's assistant coach earlier this month.

The Jersey-born former Bath and Gloucester player won 16 caps for England and was part of the squad that went to the 2011 World Cup.
"I loved my time with Scotland, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to coach at international level, but the chance to join Gloucester-Hartpury was too good to turn down,' Banahan told the club website.
"Working in women's rugby for the past two years and having many friends within the environment, I've really admired the work that Gloucester-Hartpury have done both on and off the field, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
Head of rugby Dan Murphy added: "Matt has an incredible amount of knowledge and expertise, not just from his playing career but also from the way he studies and analyses the game.

"He was doing good things with Scotland; their backs have been sharp under his guidance, and he's already made a name for himself as a coach just two years into his coaching journey.
"We're sure that he'll fit right in with The Circus and help take our world-class squad to another level."

Textor had been under pressure to wrap up a quick sale of his stake in Palace to avoid the club being disqualified from playing in Europe next season. UEFA's rules state that no individual or entity can have 'control or influence' over two clubs competing in the same competition. Textor owns a majority stake in French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais, which has also qualified for the Europa League and would take precedence over Palace due to their higher domestic league finish. UEFA is expected to reach its decision on Palace's participation in the Europa League this week, but the matter may drag on even longer. For if Palace are disqualified from the competition, Nottingham Forest would be moved from the Conference League to the Europa League. And Forest have already written to UEFA to raise their concerns about Palace breaching the governing body's rules on multi-club ownership. Forest's billionaire owner Evangelos Marinakis avoided the same problem with his Greek side Olympiakos by placing his shares in the Premier League club into a blind trust to comply with UEFA rules. Textor could have made the same arrangement with his Palace shares, but the deadline for doing so passed on March 1. UEFA is already said to be preparing for a possible legal challenge to its decision at the court of arbitration for sport (CAS). Textor is expected to use the proceeds of stake sale to invest in another English club through his Eagle Football group, which also includes Brazil's Botafogo and Belgium's RWD Molenbeek. He had tried to buy Everton earlier this year, but Farhad Moshiri opted instead to sell the club to Dan Friedkin. Textor had previously expressed frustration that his investment in Palace did not entitle him to having a greater say in the club's direction. Despite holding the largest shareholding in Palace, his 25% voting rights were equal to fellow co-owners Steve Parish, David Blitzer and Josh Harris. Parish holds a 10% stake in club, and has effectively had day-to-day control of the club since 2010, when he led a consortium that saved it from liquidation. And the American investors Harris and Blitzer each own an 18% stake in Palace.

Manchester United submit improved bid exceeding £60m for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United have submitted an improved offer to Brentford totalling in excess of £60million ($81.1m) for Bryan Mbeumo. The Athletic reported Mbeumo wants to join United, who tabled a proposal of £45m plus £10m in add-ons to Brentford for the Cameroon international on June 4. The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the west London club, who do have the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. Advertisement Mbeumo, who joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019, scored 20 goals and provided eight assists as Brentford finished 10th in the Premier League. United have already completed the signing of Brazil international Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, as head coach Ruben Amorim seeks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Analysis by Carl Anka Bryan Mbeumo is a good player and should fit whatever style of football Ruben Amorim wants to play next season at Manchester United. The 25-year-old scored 20 goals and provided eight assists for Brentford last season, establishing himself as one of the better forwards in the Premier League. He is versatile and efficient in front of goal. Give him the ball and he'll look to get things done. Mbeumo has developed from a promising youngster in the Championship into a forward capable of taking on Champions League defences. The Cameroon international has been deployed in several roles at Brentford, impressing as a right winger in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 setup (playing off Ivan Toney), and thriving as a striker in a 3-5-2 alongside Yoane Wissa. He is direct. Naturally left-footed, but not shy about using his right, he excels when driving into space. A look at his goals and assists from last season shows a player who has favoured areas in and around the penalty area, and knows how to get to them consistently. His versatility is alluring but Mbeumo's best fit would be as the right-sided No 10 in Amorim's 3-4-3. A look at Mbeumo's progressive carries from 2024-25 shows a left-footed player equally capable of cutting inside or getting chalk on his boots on the outside. If he were to join Amorim's side, he would help provide additional angles of attack, making the team less one-dimensional in the final third. Jonny Evans agrees Manchester United youth development role
Jonny Evans is in advanced talks with Manchester United over a staff role that will tap into his knowledge of youth development. United want to retain Evans at the club after he called time on his playing career and an agreement is in place for him to look after loans of emerging talents. Evans, 37, returned to United in 2023 after eight years away and provided a meaningful contribution on the pitch, making 43 appearances, and also a telling impact around the club, offering advice to younger players and giving his insight into United's heritage. On last summer's pre-season tour in Los Angeles he spoke compellingly of staff members losing their jobs in the first round of redundancies. He rose through the ranks at United having first attended the club's centre of excellence in Belfast aged nine, making his debut in September 2007 under Sir Alex Ferguson. After leaving Old Trafford in 2015 to join West Bromwich Albion then Leicester City, Evans returned on a free transfer under Erik ten Hag, initially being paid the minimum wage due to being registered as a short-term employee. United see Evans as a valuable asset for his character, professionalism and experience of winning trophies, and feel a role in bridging the pathway between academy and senior football suits him. Les Parry, United's loans manager, left the club last November to take a similar job at NEOM SC in Saudi Arabia and Evans is set to fill than vacancy. His job will be to identify appropriate clubs at which to place young players and then keep on top of their progress, offering support where needed. In all, across his two stints at United, Evans played 241 games, scoring eight goals. ()
