Nvidia plans cheaper Blackwell AI chip for China

The company stated it will manufacture a cheaper version of its Blackwell artificial intelligence (AI) chip for China. According to sources, previous Blackwell chips cost around $10,000–$12,000, while the new version is expected to be priced between $6,500 and $8,000.
Notably, the new chips will use conventional memory and will not require TSMC's advanced packaging, unlike earlier models. Production is set to begin around June 2026. However, experts suggest the lower price may indicate weaker specifications and reduced manufacturing requirements.

The new Blackwell artificial intelligence (AI) chips for China will be based on Nvidia's RTX Pro 6000D and will use conventional GDDR7 memory. Nvidia will not collaborate with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) for packaging technology.
