Minnesota shootings suspect was a 'prepper', FBI says
The suspect accused of fatally shooting a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband in a gun rampage last week was a doomsday "prepper", according to the FBI.The wife of the accused, Vance Boelter, told investigators the family was among a small group of Americans who "prepare for major or catastrophic incidents", said a court document.Boelter, 57, has been charged with killing Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, last Saturday.He also seriously wounded Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Police say there is evidence he was planning to target others.
Police captured Mr Boelter in woods last Sunday after a two-day manhunt.His wife was pulled over in a traffic stop hours after the shootings. She was taking their four children to stay with friends, according to investigators. Jenny Boelter told the authorities her husband had warned her in a message that she should flee, documents show. "The text stated something to the effect of they should prepare for war, they needed to get out of the house and people with guns may be showing up to the house," wrote FBI agent, Terry Getsch, in an affidavit released on Friday.In her car, investigators found about $10,000 in cash, passports and two guns. Mrs Boelter has not been charged with any crime.She said her husband had given her a "bailout plan", for what to do if she ever needed to leave the house.Mrs Boelter also said her husband had a business partner in the north-western US state of Washington and that they ran a security company and "fishing outfit" called "Red Lion" in Congo, Africa.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, has called the shootings an "act of targeted political violence".According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Mr Boetler wrote a rambling and incoherent letter addressed to the FBI in which he claimed the state's governor had ordered him to kill Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar as part of a supposed plot for Walz to take her spot in the Senate. There is no evidence of any such plot.Klobuchar and Minnesota's other US senator, Tina Smith, along with Walz, were among Democratic politicians on a list of around 70 targets found in Mr Boetler's possession, according to local media.The suspect disguised himself as a police officer to gain access to the homes of the two US lawmakers he shot, police have said. He was wearing a vest with a Taser and a badge.
Yvette Hoffman, who survived the attack, was released from the hospital on Thursday, while her husband remains in care. Mrs Hoffman was shot while shielding her daughter, Hope, from gunfire. It was Hope who called 911.

New Diddy texts reveal escort's 'instructions' for getting to multi-day freak-offs where they'd have sex 'like rabbits'
New evidence in Sean ' Diddy ' Combs' trial has unearthed text messages between an escort and the rapper's associate, giving him detailed instructions on how to get to and from one of the marathon freak-offs. Combs' sex-trafficking trial began last month and the latest bombshell is that a male escort named Jules was texting with a Diddy associate to arrange his travel, according to documents shared as part of the court record. It's not known who the Diddy associate is, as the screenshots of the text conversation only identifies the person as 'device owner.' In messages dated on August 26, 2009, 'device owner' asked Jules if he wanted to fly from Los Angeles to New York City for the freak-off. Jules was promised a 'tip' since the request was so last minute, according to the documents. A mere two minutes later, Jules replies back accepting the offer. The 'device owner' then texts the travel information to Jules, giving him the information about the Virgin America flight from LAX to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The mysterious Diddy scheduler also tells Jules to reach out when he's ready to book his return flight. In messages dated on August 26, 2009, the Diddy associate known only as 'device owner' asked Jules if he wanted to fly from Los Angeles to New York City for the freak-off. In this batch of messages, Jules says the people presumably involved in the freak-off are 'rabbits' In subsequent text messages between Jules and 'device owner' in December 2009, Jules appears to be trying to set up an alibi for himself so his girlfriend wouldn't find out about his alleged activities with Diddy Once Jules got to New York early the next morning on August 27, he texted the 'device owner' that he arrived and would be headed to his hotel room to shower and clean up. About an hour after that, the 'device owner' texted Jules to come to room 4901 and Jules responded 'OK.' Presumably after the freak-off, Jules texted around 2:45pm on August 27 that he wanted a flight to be arranged back to Los Angeles. The 'device owner' said that would be done, but not before Jules came back up to the room. He was wanted back in an hour. Jules responded that he need a little more rest than one hour and asked if that would be okay. He joked that hadn't slept in two days and added that 'u guys r rabbits lol.' 'Lol, Ok hit me when you wake. Sorry bro. No stress. U let me know,' the 'device owner' replied back. Almost four hours later at 7:45pm, Jules texted that he was coming to the room. Fifteen minutes after that, he writes that he was 'at the door knocking' and to let him know 'if u are there.' At 8:10pm, Jules assumes that occupants of the hotel room 'stepped out.' The 'device owner' finally gets back to him at 8:21pm and says, 'OK come up.' In subsequent text messages between Jules and 'device owner' in December 2009, Jules appears to be trying to set up an alibi for himself so his girlfriend wouldn't find out about his alleged activities with Diddy. 'Can u shoot me a text just saying you guys will be somewhere else this weekend so i can show her?' Jules asks on December 8. After some further correspondence, Jules tells 'device owner' that 'it worked.' He then offered which days he was available. In the texts, they don't call what's going on a freak-off, rather they call it a 'party.' Combs has been charged with racketeering conspiracy, two charges of sex trafficking and two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors claim Diddy coerced victims into drug-fueled sex parties using sex and violence. The rapper has denied all the accusations, saying all the sex acts were consensual. The new text evidence against the former music mogul came after a damning day in court on Thursday, when prosecutors introduced a tranche of photos from the March 2024 raid on Diddy's in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. Jurors saw pictures of high-powered rifles, drugs and hundreds of bottles of baby oil. Investigators also found bags containing ketamine, which were also photographed as evidence. The pictures show bottles of baby oil neatly lined in display cabinets, while dozen of boxes of the lubricant were also found stacked in the home. Defense Attorney Marc Agnifilo has said the star likes to 'buy in bulk like any other American' and claimed Combs participated in consensual sex.
