Thainstone Centre: From top-class cattle to classic cars
It's not just livestock that goes under the hammer at Thainstone Centre, near Inverurie.
Thainstone Specialist Auctions (TSA), a division of ANM Group recently hosted a timed
online auction of classic and collectable vehicles.
And there were some splendid-looking lots up for grabs.
Top-selling prices included a 2001 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Auto, which fetched £16,750. Despite its advanced age, the well-loved car – similar to the Aston Martins famously driven by secret agent James Bond – had only 30,247 miles on the clock.
Also in the five-figure bracket in the online auction was a vintage 1964 Ford Thames Trader truck, which sold for £10,750.
An even older vehicle, a 1962 Ford Zephyr, had plenty of classic car appeal. The successful bidder paid £9,400.
Meanwhile, a 2000 Bentley Arnage Red Label Auto fetched £8,000.
And a 2003 Mini Cooper with just 27,742 miles on the clock sold for £3,500.
Elsewhere in the auction, a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle TDI converted pick-up went for £3,200.
Neil Simpson, head of business development and strategy, TSA, said 'Interest from across the UK and a strong presence of buyers in the north-east highlights continued demand for good quality, clean classics.'
All but one of the lots sold on the day, with many exceeding their reserves.
Neil added: 'By utilising our online bidding platform and marketing channels we were able to reach the right audience and deliver a successful sale.'
TSA is one of the UK's leading commercial auctioneers.
Thainstone-based ANM is one of Scotland's largest producer-owned co-operatives.
Its auction venues are best known for sales of top-class cattle and sheep.
One of the group's key achievements in recent years has been to diversify long-established livestock operations into an organisation spanning multiple business activities.
ANM's portfolio also includes livestock marketing, plant, machinery and equipment auctions and valuations, rural and commercial property interests, hospitality and events.
Regular online vehicle auctions are held fortnightly on Thursday evenings from 6pm.

First look at next James Bond in the 007 franchise is released - with fans convinced they know who is playing the secret agent
Four years on from Daniel Craig 's hugely dramatic exit from the world of James Bond, a new actor is set to step into the frame as the world's most famous spy - but not in the way that fans might expect. Yesterday, Bond bosses at Amazon MGM Studios unveiled the first look at a new, younger version of 007 in an officially endorsed prequel. Entitled 007: First Light, it's a completely fresh retelling of Bond's origin story as a promising but rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who is recruited into MI6. The breathless trailer, released yesterday, features intense car chases, explosive gun fights and brutal hand-to-hand combat straight out of the Daniel Craig flicks. It bears all the hallmarks of his character: losing his parents at a young age, his roguish streak of insubordination, and his remarkable good luck. There are British brands by the boatload, an endless repertoire of snappy one-liners and even the prerequisite Aston Martin - in this case, a V8 Vantage, as seen in The Living Daylights. Fans are convinced the new Bond - seen smirking as he stands on the ramp of a cargo plane, ready to make a parachute jump - is Patrick Gibson, the Irish actor best known as the star of prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. If confirmed, Gibson will be the second Irishman to be cast as Bond after Pierce Brosnan and the second youngest person after George Lazenby, who was cast at 29. Familiar faces like M, Q and Moneypenny are set to appear - along with a new character, John Greenaway, a mentor figure played by Lennie James, best known for his role as Morgan in the Walking Dead. But all is not quite as it seems - and film fans will have to hold their breath a little longer for news on the next cinematic iteration of Bond. Rather than appearing in cinemas, this version of 007 is coming to smaller screens at home in the form of a new, officially approved videogame. 007: First Light is an action-adventure game that will see players take on the role as Bond, using his wealth of gadgets and sneaking skills to guide him on the road to becoming a fully fledged secret agent. IO Interactive - which produced the award-winning Hitman series of games - has promised that it will be true to the 007 spirit. And the trailer features moments that wouldn't be out of place in any Bond movie, including a scene in with 007 accidentally sets off a dirtbike-mounted flamethrower with his Omega watch. While not in the teaser, the new Q will almost certainly tell him in true Desmond Llewelyn style: 'Grow up, 007.' Would-be mentor Greenaway is seen arguing with what appears to be this iteration of Bond's M, an Asian woman, branding him as 'always at odds with authority'. An unspecified incident in Iceland as a Navy man was 'ill-disciplined, utterly reckless... he only survived thanks to blind luck', as the scene cuts to Bond emerging from the flaming wreckage of a plane wreck in the sea. 'Bond is a bullet without a target,' she tells him, as a smirking Bond, with a scar on his right cheek, is seen standing on the edge of a plane about to jump. She adds: 'Let's give him one.' The teaser trailer released yesterday shows Bond in hand-to-hand combat - with a Land Rover visible in the background The trailer goes on to show Bond seemingly meeting Moneypenny, a young woman with glasses, before taking on target practice and then sneaking into a museum, taking down guards. It cuts to a ruined hotel room, as Bond quips to a stunned maid walking in: 'Jet lag. Gets me every time.' He's seen racing through tropical islands on a speedboat, and disarming thugs as fireworks go off in the background - and ends on a cliffhanger as he and Greenaway are lowered towards a pit of hungry crocodiles. Bond wisecracks: 'I suppose this is another teachable moment?' British brands are featured by the boatload, from a Land Rover Discovery in the background of a fight scene to a Triumph motorbike and at least two Aston Martins - suggesting the game will be just as enrobed in British heritage as the films. There's even a suggestion that, similar to Brosnan flick Goldeneye, a rouge 00 agent will be a villain. While nobody has been officially confirmed as the actor playing Bond, fans of Patrick Gibson are convinced that it is him. 'Watching the trailer and knew the face looked familiar. After about a minute or so I screamed "DEXTER",' wrote one fan on Reddit. 'The smirk gave it away,' said another, while a third added: 'It's 100 per cent him, I was thinking the same thing. Meanwhile, speculation continues to grow over who will be the next big-screen Bond, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson touted as a favourite among industry figures. James Bond has been a gaming star for years, with the 1997 Nintendo 64 adaptation of GoldenEye (with a virtual Pierce Brosnan pictured) acclaimed as one of the best games ever The acquisition of the Bond franchise by Amazon earlier this year has also prompted a flurry of guesses as to where they might take the franchise next. Bond has been spoiled with video game adaptations since the 1980s, with early adaptations taking the form of shooting games or text adventures in which players typed in what they wanted the super-spy to do. The most famous adaption was the 1997 Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye, a first-person shooter recapping the events of the film that has since been acclaimed as one of the best games ever made. Interactive retellings of Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough followed, using soundalikes rather than the real stars. Daniel Craig - a self-confessed gamer - lent his voice and likeness to an adaptation of Quantum of Solace and to James Bond 007: Blood Stone, an original story featuring his iteration of the spy. But after 007 Legends, a 'best of' video game recreating moments from across the Bond movies, received a critical mauling the spy was put out to pasture. IO Interactive is best known for the Hitman series, which casts players as a professional assassin sent around the world to take down powerful targets by any means necessary. The firm even recruited Bond actor Sean Bean - who played rogue spy 006 in GoldenEye - as an assassination target after he became an internet meme due to his reputation for always being killed off in movies and TV shows.

Firm secures £50m contract for new Scotland train route
The contract comprises two key components which includes a Train Services Agreement (TSA) with FirstGroup – valued at approximately £40m – to be delivered at Alstom's Central Rivers facility. From here, Alstom will maintain, overhaul, service and clean the five trains over the next five years. In addition, the contract includes a fleet modernisation programme with Eversholt Rail – worth around £10m – which will be carried out at Alstom's Widnes site. The refresh involves installation of new, ergonomically designed seating, upgraded passenger Wi-Fi for improved onboard connectivity and a full exterior repaint to align with Lumo's branding. Peter Broadley, Commercial Director UK and Ireland at Alstom, said: 'This partnership marks a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering high-performance, customer-focused rail services across the UK. "By combining Alstom's deep technical expertise with the operational excellence of FirstGroup and Eversholt Rail, we're ensuring that fare-paying passengers benefit from a modern, reliable and comfortable travel experience between Stirling and London. "The investment in both refurbishment and long-term support reflects our shared ambition to drive innovation and sustainability in rail transport." Alstom's Central Rivers depot in Burton upon Trent is a purpose-built train maintenance facility, which includes a state-of-the-art double-head lathe, nine maintenance roads and two lifting roads. New rail services between London and central Scotland are expected to launch in 2026 Meanwhile, the Alstom Transport Technology Centre in Widnes is the UK's largest and most sophisticated centre for train modernisation. The contract with FirstGroup and Eversholt will support 50 roles across the two sites, alongside many more through Alstom's UK supply chain. Built by Alstom and previously operated by East Midlands Railway, the five Meridian units are scheduled to re-enter service with Lumo next year, serving passengers between central and southern Scotland and London Euston. Graham Sutherland, Chief Executive Officer at FirstGroup, said: 'We are pleased to work with Eversholt Rail and Alstom on the rolling stock element of our new service between London and Stirling. This new route is another important step towards rolling out Lumo as a nationwide operator and growing our open access capacity, a key priority for FirstGroup. "Our investment and capabilities in open access rail have delivered reliable, value for money services, grown rail demand and helped to spur economic growth and connect communities. We look forward to doing the same on our new services." Stations served will include Stirling, Larbert, Greenfaulds (serving Cumbernauld) Whifflet (serving Coatbridge) Motherwell, Lockerbie, Carlisle, Preston, Crewe, Nuneaton, Milton Keynes and London Euston. Of these stations, Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert will have their first direct services to London. Paul Sutherland, Client Services Director at Eversholt Rail, said: 'Eversholt Rail are pleased to be part of this tri-partite collaborative project with FirstGroup and Alstom and we are looking forward to seeing what potential opportunities this new open access service can bring. "Alstom's ongoing involvement with the Class 222 fleet as the original equipment manufacturer will cement it's pedigree as a high-quality intercity train. The upgraded features will enhance the passenger experience for the journey between London and Stirling."

Aaron Taylor-Johnson cut a casual figure as he stepped out in sunny Paris amid increasing speculation linking him to the famous role of James Bond. The Godzilla actor, 34, was pictured out for a morning stroll in the centre of the City of Love on Tuesday. He donned a pair of straight leg blue jeans for the outing which he teamed with some tanned brown boots. While hanging a black and maroon cap from his waist, Aaron threw on a white and orange baggy Head T-shirt. He covered his eyes with a pair of wide-lensed brown sunglasses while accessorising with presumably, an Omega watch. In fact the 34-year-old was actually believed to have been former Bond producer Barbara Broccoli's ideal candidate before the franchise was purchased by Amazon. Aaron has repeatedly played it cool when asked about the possibility of him succeeding Craig however. 'It's not really for me to say anything,' he told Esquire when quizzed about speculation. But he's even been tipped for the role by former Bond star Pierce Brosnan. After being asked about the possibility of Aaron playing the part during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross show a few weeks ago, the 72-year-old said: 'I think he would make a very fine Bond. 'He was actually in one of the movies I made called The Greatest. This young man we cast as The Greatest. 'He was so impressive then. In the latest bookies' odds for the role however, Aaron has been pipped at the top by two British stars. Betting habits in recent weeks suggest that eager fans are growing in confidence that Theo James could star in the next movie, with 70% of all bets on the next 007 placed on The White Lotus actor. Ladbrokes representative Cal Gildart said: 'Henry Cavill's return to the head of the Bond betting didn't last long, with Theo James as short as anyone has been to pick up the world's most famous license to kill'. It was announced earlier this year that Amazon Prime had taken over 'creative control' of the James Bond franchise leaving fans fearing the beloved films could be ruined by endless spin-offs. The deal comes after Amazon bought MGM Studios in 2022 as a part of its media push. The acquisition gave Amazon distribution rights to the 007 franchise but not creative control. The company is said to be fast-tracking the new movie after spending a reported $1 billion to regain control from Barbara Broccoli. Producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal have been hired and they are understood to be close to a deal with director Alfonso Cuaron. Then they will go about casting the next Bond. As The Daily Mail reported, the plan is for a 'straight up' reboot after Daniel Craig's 007 died in No Time To Die. There is reportedly set to be no explanation of how the special agent is still alive, no multiverse of Bonds and no attempt to go back to the 1960s for a vintage Bond. Amazon bosses are currently said to be considering locations in which to set the much-anticipated new film, which experts predicted is likely to be released at the end of next year or in 2027. Due to a filming ban being imposed in Central London next year, new locations are reportedly being considered - with Liverpool a frontrunner, according to The Sun. An insider told the publication: 'This will no doubt irk Bond purists who already fear Amazon taking over the 007 franchise may lead to them making big changes. 'But Liverpool is a well-known alternative to London for film-makers. 'It has appeared in everything from The Batman to Captain America and Harry Potter movies, doubling up as international cities.' The source added that it doesn't necessarily mean the story will be set in Liverpool - though eagle-eyed Merseysiders will no doubt spot their city centre in the background.
