NCAA Tournament women's bubble watch: Seton Hall, Ivy League, Virginia Tech
With the calendar turning to March, conference tournaments get underway this week — the last chance for teams to try to impress the NCAA Tournament selection committee.
Getting a win or two in the conference tournaments could be huge for teams like Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, Arizona and Saint Joseph's to help solidify their NCAA Tournament resume.
'Our eight losses are all to teams with 20-plus wins,' Seton Hall coach Tony Bozzella said in a phone interview Monday. 'Our worst loss is to Net 50 and our strength of schedule is 80 or under.'
The Pirates have the three-seed in the Big East Tournament and could use a couple wins to further improve their chances of making the NCAAs.
Bubble watch
Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech, Thursday. The Hokies are the eighth seed in the ACC Tournament and could use a victory over the Yellowjackets.
Key ratings
The Ivy League: Columbia, Harvard and Princeton have strong cases at the moment to be in the NCAA Tournament. The Ivies have never had three teams play in the NCAAs and only twice have gotten an at-large team in, including last year when the Lions earned a bid. Harvard's NET rating is 37, Columbia 42 and Princeton 50.
Stanford: The Cardinal have made the NCAA Tournament the last 36 seasons — the second longest streak ever behind Tennessee, which has played in every one. Stanford has some work to do and would need to most likely win a few games in the ACC Tournament to keep that streak alive.

The Knicks surprised the rest of the basketball world earlier this week when they fired coach Tom Thibodeau despite their best playoff run in 25 years. Now, the rumors are rampant for the top job in New York as the Knicks are looking to push all-in with their current roster. Count Rick Pitino out as a potential name. The former Celtics coach, now at St. John's, was blunt when asked if he wanted the job: 'Absolutely not.' He was on-air during a broadcast between the Yankees and Guardians, pointing out the pressure that will come for the Knicks' next guy. 'So, whoever comes in has got so much pressure on them to take this team to the next level because that's why they're doing it, obviously, in their minds.' St. John's had a stellar season in Pitino's second year there, going 31-5 and winning both the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. While they were upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Pitino was right back in the national spotlight. New York had a surprise run to the East Finals, including upsetting the Celtics in six games in the second round. But the Knicks weren't able to get back to the NBA Finals, falling in six games to the Pacers. The Knicks have talented players on their roster, but they also must capitalize on that. They traded significant draft assets to get to this point, and with the East looking like a potential question mark going forward, the organization is looking at a short window of contention. That's where the new head coach figures to be a big part of the equation. 'I feel bad for Thibs because I think he captured all of New York and built something very, very special,' Pitino said, per SNY. 'A lot of us don't comprehend what happened. Notre Dame lands baseball star transfer Drew Berkland from Minnesota It's been a tough offseason for Notre Dame's baseball program after missing the NCAA Tournament, but the Fighting Irish received some good news Saturday. Minnesota graduate transfer Drew Berkland has committed to Notre Dame. The 6-foot, 190-pounder played outfield and also caught during his three-year career with the Golden Gophers. This past season, Berkland batted .293 with 10 doubles, 14 home runs, a team-high 53 RBI and a slugging percentage of .546 in 52 games. Berkland was arguably the Gophers best hitter last season but now has a new home for his final season of college baseball. He should immediately slot into the Irish's starting lineup, as either of his two positions, but with the departure of star Carson Tinney, catcher might be the best path. Notre Dame beat out Duke, Indiana, Kansas State, North Carolina and USC for Berkland's commitment.
