Rory McIlroy set for star-studded line-up of neighbours at new UK mansion

Daily Mirror4 days ago

Rory McIlroy is set to move into his new mansion in Surrey in the coming weeks, and the home is located on an estate that is also home to a host of other famous faces
Fresh from completing the career grand slam, Rory McIlroy is preparing to relocate his family to London. Masters success ended his Major championship dry spell in April, as the 36-year-old secured the only major championship absent from his impressive CV.
That ensured his place in the sport's pantheon of greats, and marked a significant milestone for McIlroy, who celebrated the victory by returning to his hometown of Holywood in Northern Ireland to visit his parents.

Before landing in Belfast, however, he, his wife Erica Stoll, and their daughter Poppy made a brief stopover in London in their private jet to view the Surrey mansion they plan to inhabit.

For several years, McIlroy and his family have lived in a luxurious residence in Jupiter, Florida, an area known for its affluent golfers, actors, and business tycoons. Florida's sunny weather undoubtedly suits McIlroy's golfing ambitions, as its climate and facilities allow him to train all year round.
However, the five-time major champion has not kept secret his and his wife's wish to move to the UK, with the couple purchasing a property on the Wentworth Golf Club estate a few years ago.
After reportedly spending over €10 million on renovations to the Surrey home, the McIlroys are now expected to move in next month.

In doing so, they will join a host of famous faces who have chosen to live in this exclusive enclave. Rory McIlroy is set to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in sports and beyond as he joins an illustrious neighbourhood.
The golfing ace's new digs are in a locale that boasts residents like South African legend Ernie Els, former Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn, and his own Irish compatriot Paul McGinley, who has a place in nearby Sunningdale - as does another former Ryder Cup captain, Sam Torrance.
Justin Rose, whom McIlroy outplayed in a thrilling playoff to clinch the Masters title, also resides in the area.

Former Chelsea captain John Terry, an avid golfer, lives close to Wentworth, as does ex-England cricketer Kevin Pietersen. In the past, Formula One legend Eddie Jordan owned a house in the area, as did Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko.
McIlroy's neighbours will also include royalty and high-profile business magnates such as the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, and Russian oligarch Petr Aven. Aidan Heavey, the man behind Tullow Oil, is another notable figure with property on the estate.

The luxurious surroundings of Wentworth and its easy access to London and international airports have attracted individuals from all walks of life.
Music legends Elton John and Cliff Richard have both owned houses in the area over the years. Wentworth Estate has also been home to former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and chat show king, Michael Parkinson.
However, living in such opulent surroundings isn't for everyone. Gary Numan shared his eerie experience with Uncut music magazine in 2019, revealing, "I had a big neo-Georgian house on Wentworth golf course, but I was convinced it was haunted.
"Some weird s*** had been going on – I'd come home and the house was in darkness when I was convinced I'd left the lights on.
"So one day, I made a point of turning on every single light in the house. I got back from the studio and – f*** me – the house was in total darkness."

Liam Delap says his 'hunger and desire' to win major trophies was a significant factor in his decision to join Chelsea. Chelsea put an end to weeks of speculation this evening as it was announced that they had completed a £30million deal for the Ipswich striker. The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, tying him to the Blues until 2031. It comes Delap enjoyed an eye-catching first full season in the Premier League, in which he racked netted 12 times a struggling Ipswich side. The forward's goalscoring exploits saw him shortlisted for the Young Player of the Year award. Manchester United provided strong competition in the race to sign Delap, but the allure of Champions League football and the presence of Enzo Maresca – who the forward worked with at Manchester City – gave Chelsea the edge. 'The most important thing for me last summer was going somewhere where I could play a lot of minutes,' Delap told Chelsea's official website. 'That was the opportunity I felt I needed, to go and express myself and show the player I am. Ipswich gave me that opportunity, which was so important, and I'm very grateful for that.' Delap has fond memories of watching Chelsea as a youngster is 'hungry' to help lead the club back to their former glory again. 'Growing up watching this club, I understand the stature of it and how incredible it has been over the years,' he added. 'I wanted to come here to win trophies. When I spoke to the club, everyone wanted to get back to the very top, and they have the quality and the players to do that. 'The hunger and desire to keep adding trophies, to take the club back to where it belongs, that is the main objective.' The England Under-21 international is pleased that his many years of hard 'graft' have paid off. More Trending 'Since I was eight or nine years old, I was focused on football,' he went on. 'I never wanted to do anything else, and I've given everything I could to make it happen. 'It's such a long and hard period and things can be tough for you, but I've always enjoyed it. I just love football; I'd be playing with my mates if I wasn't a professional. 'Fortunately, I'm alright at it – and I'm delighted that graft has worked out and I'm here now at Chelsea.'
