Commanders Top Pick Non-'Red Flag' Injury Issue Revealed
The Washington Commanders turned heads with their first pick of the 2025 Draft with the selection of Josh Conerly out of Oregon.
And in the second round, they did it again.
That's when they focused on one of the top available players left in the draft. ... with many surprised that Trey Amos was still available.

And now maybe we know why.
Washington drafted Ole Miss cornerback Amos with the 61st overall pick in the second round of the 2025 Draft. Amos was the top cornerback left on the draft board and joins a secondary room with Marshon Lattimore and Mike Sainristil.
But why did he slide?
Writes ESPN, "One aspect that might have hurt his value slightly: Multiple teams discovered a back injury in the predraft process. This wasn't a major red flag for some teams, but it was at least a mild concern that 'probably caused him to slide a bit,' as one AFC exec said.
"However, people around Amos and the Commanders did not seem overly concerned by it.''

It seems that while the public didn't know about the issue, the 32 NFL teams did.
In the end, can Amos play?
"He can get a little lost at the top of the route and needs occasional safety nets over the top. He has twitchy feet to close and sees the action clearly from zone but can be hampered by indecisiveness, despite favorable instincts. Amos uses physicality and length to shrink the 50/50 odds in his favor," media scout Lance Zuerlein said of Amos.
"He can play in multiple coverage but is most consistent in zone. Amos needs to ramp up his run support and trust his eyes in space, but he has the goods to become a solid starting outside corner."

Washington's secondary made incremental improvements last season under Dan Quinn's coaching. They are hoping an infusion of talent in the secondary will help tremendously.
Amos should help instantly on the roster, with tremendous value going to the Commanders. ... as long as he's healthy.

In her answer and counterclaim, Kaitlyn Cleveland also requested a judge equitably split their assets while granting her alimony if they are unable to reach an agreement. Ben and Kaitlyn Cleveland have been separated since December 2024 despite the divorce filing coming in February. The date of separation was noted in the first court filing. Cleveland was a third-round pick by the Ravens in 2021, and he re-signed with the team this offseason to remain a fixture on the offensive line. He could see a larger role in 2025 after being used sparingly over his first four seasons. Cleveland has seven starts under his belt in 54 games since joining the team, all of which coming at offensive guard. Rangers to 4-2 win over slumping Nationals
Evan Carter and Jake Burger each finished a triple short of the cycle as the Texas Rangers beat the slumping Washington Nationals 4-2 on Sunday. Carter hit a two-run homer, doubled and singled his first three times up, but struck out in the eighth inning. Burger doubled, flied out and singled before providing an insurance run with a homer in the eighth. Jacob Webb (3-3), the second of five Texas pitchers in a bullpen game, threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. Robert Garcia got four outs for his fourth save. The Rangers, 5-0 winners behind Jacob deGrom on Saturday, have won consecutive games for the first time since a six-game streak May 10-15. Alex Call homered and singled for the Nationals, who have scored only 11 runs in their past seven games. Nathaniel Lowe had three of their six hits. Washington starter Trevor Williams (3-7) gave up three runs — two earned — and six hits in 4 1/3 innings. The first pitch was delayed by rain for 1 hour, 40 minutes. Marcus Semien reached on a bad-hop single leading off the second and Carter homered one out later to make it 2-0. Call homered leading off the fourth. Amed Rosario walked and scored on a fielder's choice to tie it. Semien's groundout brought home Josh Smith with the go-ahead run in the fifth. Smith doubled with one out and went to third on an error. Jacob Latz started for Texas and gave up two runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings while striking out eight. After the walk to Rosario, manager Bruce Bochy and an athletic trainer came out and Latz left with the trainer. Latz, who had a cut on his thumb, said he was fine after the game. Call reached on an error with two outs in the eighth, but Garcia entered and got James Wood to ground out. Semien had two hits and is 15 for 27 (.517) with three homers, nine RBIs and 10 runs scored in his last nine games. ... Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is hitless in his last 25 at-bats. Rangers: RHP Tyler Mahle (5-3, 2.02 ERA) pitches the opener of a three-game series at Minnesota on Tuesday. Nationals: LHP MacKenzie Gore (3-5, 2.87) starts the first of three games at the New York Mets on Tuesday.
